Recommended Posts

hey guys I was hopeing you could help me, I am working on a mortificator army and am about to paint one of my first bare headed marines, the mortificators are known to be dark skined not unlike the salimanders but I'm trying to figure out how to paint him up with out just slapping on some chaos black and calling it a day.

Pro tip most black people are not actually black... but brown ^_^ while I think the salamanders are black skinned but not african black... if that makes sense...

Start with a black undercoat and work your way through lighter browns like you would with pinky/cream flesh colours as you would with a white space marine (leaving darker colours in the recesses)... Change colours depending on how dark a skin tone you want.

I don't know anything about the new stuff they've churned out concerning the Mortifactors, but (before at any rate), not all their initiates were dark skinned:

Unless Artemis here is some kind of albino :P.

A mix is always good, IMO, but then again I play Templars, and they recruit from many, many different worlds.

Dark flesh will be your friend.

I saved this to my favourites a while ago, its pretty useful.

Yes, Love this tutorial. There is also this one for more face stuff.

Great stuff as I have started my Deathwing plains people squad and want a native american tone! if anyone has any ideas for colours or has tackled this before then tips most welcome!

This article might give you some ideas for colors. I'm a little out of touch with the current GW range of paints, but I'd say Vermin Brown as base and Elf Flesh as highlight might work, if you have those.

For different flesh tones i use bronzed flesh as a base, and then mix in skull white, chaos black and or the various brown and tans until i get a colour that seems appropriate for the mini I am painting. Once the mini is dry I'd then use a wash of the appropriate color to bring out highlights and eye sockets, so orgyn flesh, gryphonne sepia or devlan mud depending on the color of the marine, maybe use a little of the badab black if the lines need additional contrast.

Pretty nice guide there but not overly helpful as I'm not sure of th gw equivalents to Vallejo are!

The names are pretty much the same. But there are conversion tables Link1 Link2 Link3 Link4

I guess you can use these recipes, but I actually just though you could take some inspiration from there. There really is no "wrong" way to paint something. :)
