Swiftclaws

Afternoon brothers,

I'm unsure whether to add in some Swiftclaws to my Wolves?

I love the idea behind them because I ride a Motorcycle myself.

However, they're relativley expensive and are always going to be outnumbered.

Besides, i'm always wary about using any kind of Claw unit due to them

being a lowly WS/BS 3 even with the extra attack on the charge, i've

always found more experienced Grey Hunters to be far more effective

in assault with most foes just bouncing off of them.

So what do you guys think? Do they really make a viable option to my army, which

I try to keep as balanced as possible. Or would another unit of Hunters in a Drop Pod

be more effective?

Thanks,

Motorbike Mike

Have a look for Littlbitz's posts on this subject - including a really good tactica for using bikers. There is quite a lot of stuff on here recently about the use of bikers.

I think it is fair to say a lot of people (the majority probably) aren't a fan of the bikers, but there are a few of us out there who really rate them.

They can be brutally effective - give them a go.

There are quite a few really cool strengths that bikes have - T5 (sort of), great speed, great invunerable save when moving quickly and a surprising amount of twin-linked bolter rounds which compensates for the BS3. They take a little bit of practice to use well, but are worth the effort. Under-rated by many I think.

I agree with Nostromo and many other Wolf brothers out there, the Swiftclaw bikers are very very underrated by most players. Sure, they arent Thunderwolf Cav, designed to wreck anything in their way, but used correctly they are amazing. In my 2500 point list, I run 2 squads of them, with 4 bikers, a meltagun, 1 attack bike w/ multimelta, and a Wolf Guard w/ powerfist and combi-melta. With that setup, they go tank-hunting, monsterous creature hunting, and they can also bring home a pretty decent punch in CC. If you play offensively as I do, usually the best best for your bikers is to use them as a distraction and a complement to your main assault force. With turbo-boosting and good use of cover, they are pretty durable, and most enemies see them as a pretty big threat, so use them to soak up fire and hunt some armor while the rest of your force advances.
