biglou666
hi guys, i am waiting on the day now that i recieve my shiny new codex from GW. (has anyone got their pre orders yet?) i want to make a psycannon spam list. However, at 20 pts per model, and then yet another 20 pts for a psycannon in a purgitation squad is very costly for my points budget. What is the best way to put 10 pt psycannons in a list? Beacause there are many options! there are termie squads, strike sqauds, purifiers, teleporter squads etc. What do you guys feel is the best way to incorporate a nasty amout of psycannons in a list? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/ Share on other sites

Second, having seen the official codex that my FLGS got in their black box Psycannon spam is much easier to do than you would think. You can do Mech pyscannons with Strike Squads in Rhinos, at 260pts for a full squad with 2 cannons in a rhino. If you want to just get more psycannons in you can take a bunch of Strike squads (these are 10 pts per cannon) and then a bunch (3) of half strength purifier squads with 2 cannons a piece (these guys get a max of 4 in a squad and 2 at half strength). Really if you want to spam psycannons you can do it just fine in whatever combo you want, just go with the cheapest versions you can get for the most psycannons and go! RandomGuy
Put simply purifiers. For 140 points you get 5 guys with 2 psycannons. I know that's the same cost as the purgation squad but they have a better psychic power, more attacks and reduced costs for the nemesis weaponry. Plus if you take Crowe (which you would) they become troops. If you really want more psycannons take a look at the razorback as well it works out at 85 points for what is effectivly a twinlinked psycannon (it's actually only a twinlinked assault cannon with psybolts). You could give terminators and characters psycannons as well, but I think time will prove that the terminators are better off with incinerators, especially if you give them a land raider/stormraven ride. biglou666
First, no-one will get their pre-orders till at earliest the 2nd of April as that is official release date. ? I got my blood angels a whole week before the official release date through the post! :S Put simply purifiers. For 140 points you get 5 guys with 2 psycannons. That does sound like a good option. And dont forget, purgataion squad's psycannons cost twice as much. So, you actually get a better deal, especially with a 10 man squad! :) so how does this sound for a basic psycannon spam list? GM with psycannon (1) termies with psycannon (5) termies with psycannon (5) purifiers with 4 psycannons (10) purifiers with 4 psycannons (10) (im guessing that this list is just over 1000 points, leaving it open for perhaps a dreadknight with psycannon ;), to make a really nice 1500 list, when you include the other upgrades) I think a list like this has potential. this list alone (which isnt a full, completed list) would get 44 strength 7 (rending) shots a turn, hell, vehicles AND hordes are going home crying, as hordes will have to suffer from S5 storm bolter fire aswell. If they shoot, shoot back. if they deepstrike, shoot them. If they mech you, rend them to death. If they assuault you, have halberds to give your squads I6. This psycannon list has grown on me loads now! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699152 Share on other sites

I got my blood angels a whole week before the official release date through the post! :S I would guess that is/was a mixup on the shipping end. GW has an official ship date on direct orders of 2nd if April, and in stores release of the 2nd as well for the first wave... As far as your list, while it is infact just under 1000 points it is going to get shot to bits, you should drop the cannon on the GM and give both purifiers rhinos if you want to make it a full list....that leaves you with 5 points to Master craft the psycannon on one of your terminator justicars...cause that's where you are putting the psycannon...right? Vindicatus
If you want to see a good shooty list that involves psycannons, take a look at my MK.3 army list in this post. 12 Psycannons for 24/48 shots. (2 of which are always H4) 22 Stormbolters for 44 shots. (8 of which at S5) 12 twin-linked Autocannon shots (at S8) Vindicare Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699166 Share on other sites

biglou666
As far as your list, while it is infact just under 1000 points it is going to get shot to bits hmm, i was hoping for this to be a list that would stand in good cover (3+/4+), forcing the majority of armies to take damage whilst pushing their army across the board. Then once the opponent is within assault range, i will (unexpectedly) walk my troops out of their cover and into the enemy, hipfiring my psycannons all the while. Then, i'll toast them with cleansing flame, and stab them in the face with halberds, which will probably be striking first. (I also want to put a techmarine in this list, 1, for bolster defences, and 2, for an orbital strike relay.) Clearly, i am making alot of assumptions, and there will be lists that can deal with my army. But im not in it to win every game, and i dont like rhinos! (there i said it :D) ps, thanks vindicatus for reminding me to include my vindicare! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699184 Share on other sites
ToI
and i dont like rhinos! (there i said it :D) Blasphemy! non-rhino loving...non-mechanized....HERETIC! yeah I know what you mean, I always hated having to mechanize my forces to be competetive, but if you are just in it for the feel of the army, then go nuts, it will definitely be a fun one to play. As for points then I would master craft the psycannon on the GM and one of the justicars, and then add a 6th dude to one of your terminator squads for some ablative wound nonsense Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699190 Share on other sites
Gentlemanloser
If you want 4 Psycannons in a unit, a Purgation Squad is the cheapest, buy far. As you only need to buy the base 5 dudes to get access to them. If you want 2 shooting from the protection of a Rhino, Purifiers are your go to unit. If you want maximum effect from your Psycannons, then go for Paladin. They get 2 per 5 (double the amount Termies can take) and are cheaper than normal Termies. For HQ, take a OM Inquisitor with TDA and a Psycannon. You can also consider Dreadnoughts or Razorbacks with Assault Cannons and Psybolt Ammo. They are in essence Psycannons. S7, 4 shots, Rending. And Razorbacks are twinlinked. Edit: I don't see the point of sycannons on Interceptors. These guys are designed to be mobile, and move around. As such you waste 2 shots on each Psycannon. Mine was delivered personally by Matt Ward! lol (never gave him a tip though!) You should have given him a tip on fluff writting and game balance. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699208 Share on other sites
Souba
a very cheap and effective method are purifiers. just like paladins you can take 2 heavy weapons for every 5 man. what makes the purifiers so awesome is, that the psycannon only costs 10 points each. get 10 dudes, combat squad them for a mini purgator squad with 4 psycannons (thats cheaper and can counter more effective in close combat if needed too) and another 5 man squad equipped with melee weapons of your choice. you can even add them a razorback/rhino if needed to. biglou666
Souba, that is fantastic thinking, and I will definitely use that idea, if you don't mind! :tu: That sorts out my lack of forward close combat power completely, whilst still keeping my ranged power. Thanks! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699352 Share on other sites
Souba
good thing about purifiers is, they are fearless so shooting morale test wont be a problem for you. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2699427 Share on other sites
Drachnon
Let's work this out a bit shall we. If you look at total point cost of the model with the psycannon strike squads are the best at 30 points. Purifiers are 34 Interceptors are 36 Purgations are 40 points. Terminators are 65. Paladins are 75 (I'm not gonna do vehicles right now) Minimum cost you have to put in each squad type for fielding 4 Psycannons: Purgation squad pays 180 points Purifiers 320 Strike squad 440 Interceptors 560 Paladins 630 Terminators 900 Well that was point cost now lets see what plus points the squads bring with them: Strike squads are troop choices Terminators are also troop choices and can move and fire 4 times. Inerceptors have 30" teleport to side or rear armour of vehicle or last turn contesting of objectives Paladins can fire 4 times just like terminators and their fearlessness is kinda nice. Purifiers don't seem to have much to make them stand out. Purgation squad has their astral aim, note that they don't have deepstrike though. My oppinion on each: Strike squads seem like a good choice for the troops. Terminator squads seem to expensive in terms of psycannon power. Purgation squads are the best choice to take if you just want mass Psycannons. Purifiers are a surprisingly decent choice, within the elite choices they're better then Paladins in terms of psycannon power. Intercepters have the advantage of being the only fast attack choice with psycannons (iirc) I like the 30" teleport in combination with psycannons seems like an excellent way to take out things hiding behind full cover. Paladins really seem like a bad choice when talking about psycannons. Paladins just feel to much like a close combat unit to me to use as psycannon squad. So there you have it. Imput is appreciated Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225511-psycannons/#findComment-2702325 Share on other sites
biglou666
thanks for the detailed breakdown drachnon, i am still torn between purgatation and purifiers.... i think im gonna start with two purifier squads in a 1500 pt game, and start to fill left over heavy support slots in larger lists.
