BattleBrotherJohn
Just wondering what codex people are using ( or would suggest ) for Great Crusade/Heresy era Iron Warriors ? Reading the IW background they seem to be a combination of heavy weapons and assault . Doghouse
With pre-heresy it's a case of what ever codex takes your fancy really and you have a massive amount of freedom when making your army as there are no official codexes. I'd personally use Space Wolves, mainly because you get two assault weapons in a squad which would be ideal for trench raiding. You could however just as easily use the chaos codex or regular marine codex to be honest though. You could even use the blood angels codex at a push using the black rage and red thirst to represent the fact that once they get into combat after a long siege they tend to give no quarter and go mental killing everyone or go all armour supported by a couple of tactical squads. You could even use their jump pack troops to represent an elite Iron Warrior jump pack company. In the case of more specialised codexes though you should really leave out the more specialised units like death company or thunder wolves and focus on the more Iron Warrior type units. This doesn't mean that with a bit of creativity you couldn't come up with suitable proxy units. At the end of the day there are so many ways of representing various companies of various legions that as long as you don't go silly you can get away with pretty much anything. d503
Codex marines. Lysander with command squad, 2x melta Tactical squad Tactical squad 10 sniper scouts with the upgrade hero. Devastator squad (4xML) Thunderfire cannon Thunderfire cannon There you go. Try explaining to your opponent why your entire core has a 3+ cover save. There is nothing more iron warriors than that, no? And your hero is not just iron within, iron witiout, he is almost impossible to kill. 2+, 3++, eternal warrior + feel no pain? I doubt he will ever die. -------------------------------------- Lysander with command squad, 2x melta, champion - 350 Tactical squad, hb, flamer, pf - 195 Tactical squad, hb, flamer, pf - 195 10 sniper scouts, camo – 170 Dreadnaught, TLLC, heavy flamer - 145 10 man devastator squad (4xML, pw) – 245 Thunderfire cannon - 100 Thunderfire cannon – 100 1,500 points Thats the best I can do. Lord_Caerolion
Well, the Imperial Armour 10 (Badab War part 2) does have a Space Marine Siege Assault army list. Lots of tanks, Dreadnought Troops, Tactical Marines with siege shields, etc. Sure, you don't get Drop Pods or Scouts, but you get the Caestus Assault Ram, and to represent the "assault" nature of the list, there's an extra "siege objective" that you must take, otherwise you can only draw. I'd say it fits the Iron Warriors pretty damn well. It even has proto-Berserkers, with Siege Assault Squads, Assault Squads with no jump pack, but they have the option to take a transport (other than drop pods), and get to re-roll Sweeping Advance rolls. Also, 2 FA, 4 HS, one HS being mandatory. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/225524-iron-warriors-which-codex/#findComment-2701952 Share on other sites
