Hey guys,

I am writing a 3 page report on whether leman Russ is alive, for my uni assessment piece. I have used all the awesome information on the Librium here at The B&C, if there is anymore information to show yours and my dedication to the sons of russ, please post :P

Just a note on writing an assessed assignment for university. Depending on where you go to uni (I don't know every single marking system of every uni, or all the rules they apply, obviously), writing on a topic like this where there is information by so many people, none of which has to be accredited by an official source (it's fantasy literature, after all) may not be the best choices of topics (if you've discussed this with the person responsible for the marking, this obviously doesn't apply ;) ). If you were to write an interpretation of sorts of a novel looking at parallels to the current politicla situation somewhere or the use of language, or any number of other things are done, it'd be different.

The problem is, I could write a novel on Leman Russ's exploit in the warp, how he is sending regular secret messages to the emperor about all the plans of the chaos gods and that he likes do crossdress on sundays. If it was written well, and I agreed to submit it to BL for free without them ever having to cut me a profit, they'd publish it if they thought it'd sell well. And that means it could very well end up being cited on the librarium website, and it could contradict what's been said before. GW has purposely left these things as vague as they are because that gives great freedom to artists (which, of course, means more novels can be written, sold, and more money can be made :) ). The problem is, the person marking your assignment could read all these contradictions (for example, you might have missed some snippet of information and now your essay contradicts what said snipped it telling them), and not being familiar with the topic conclude that you're a particular nasty case of academic dishonesty (for all they know, you could have logged on to the librarium website and changed the entries to fit your essay - this is the same problem as wikipedia being cited as a reference. It's just not acceptable).

That out of the way,

Have you tried the librarium? (from your post I couldn't quite figure that out).

Other than that, the horus heresy novels might give you a clue or two.

Yea they guys at uni said they are sick of reading stuff about computers so we can do what ever the hell we like =) yea I looked and pretty much quoted the relevent info in the librarium. I dont actually have many space wolves novels but I cant exactly say where i am gonna get from on here. But I will probably pull an all nighter to get this in which is due 2moro rofl anyway any info is great thx.

well saying as 40k isnt real, no... but within the 40k time line... its a maby. he dissapeared without trace, though said he would return. though you have the whole can a primarch thing die. the only well documented primarch death is horus, whon the emperor compleately killed, mentally phsyical and spiritual. we know sanguinius died phsyical but is that the same? thechaos gods are capable of bringing back normal marines, but not horus. so its compleately on your interpretation of the fluff. and considering codexes views of fluff etc you view can be compleatly different from everyone elses and still not be wrong.

Here's another academic problem with your endeavor, you need original sources. You would need access to all/most of the old White Dwarf magazines with relevant articles, all of the old codices, and any of the Black Library novels that have related information on Russ and/or the Wolves, so that you could read and examine them for yourself, develop a hypothesis, then make an argument to defend your position based on the available material. You can't do that by going to the Librarium and citing dubious second-hand internet-based material. That would be like using only Wikipedia to complete a paper on, well, anything.

As far as what we've said related to Russ's status, there is an old thread about it on here somewhere. I'll do a search and edit it in if I can find it.

EDIT: Here you go: Russ Thread
