Mordrak + Stormraven

Oh I'm not immovable, I utterly enjoyed the debate with RNL. :) (And after a good debate came to a point I could no longer counter! ;))

But there's no debate here. Opinions about 'worth' were mentioned, and I gave reasons agianst why.

Which were then ignored.

Don't ask me about alternatives when I already listed alternatives.

Sorry, I failed to see your alternative to DSing a CC dread first turn?

Edit: Just to be thorough.

Mordrak has a 4++ save. Iron Halo.

Yes he does. I was more thinking of his Squad as a whole, and being hit with Plasma Cannons or mutplie Plasma wounds.

Besides the fact that it cannot happen, the downside is you spend 205 points on a Mordrak and Ghost "delivery" device that is going to get blown up really, really quickly. 205 points is 20 points shy of a 5 man terminator squad with a Psycannon. Or a Vindicare Assassin and 60 points to spend elsewhere. Wouldn't it make more sense to use those points on something else to draw away some fire? Something that won't die instantly?

Saturation. Leaving the Raven on it's own, front line, it's sure to take damage.

But when your oppoent is also dealing with Shunting NDKs, Scouting Rhinos, and Rifleman Dreads, there are other targets.

Or they can focus on the SR and leave the other nasties free.

It's one thing to have a Stormraven or a Landraider with a plan to launch an assault, which in some cases can be very helpful, it's quite another to throw away 205 points just to protect a squad from a couple lascannon shots for a turn.

Throw away...

I've had Ravens popped first turn by ML before I've had the chance to move them. And they achived *nothing*. With DS you get to place it where you want (out of LoS to some big nasty maybe), Shoot *and* deliver it's cargo.

With the security that it will get there and do these things.

If that's wasted to you, then I feel we have nothing left to discuss...

Ok, well let's break this down. Mordrak and company can go wherever they want on their own, and DS into or run into cover or get completely out of LOS. So the benefit conferred to them by coming down in a Raven is almost nil. As for "getting use out of the raven", what use, one multi-melta shot? How much is that worth? Not enough to justify the cost. And a dreadnought on turn 2.... isn't so hot for the points either, especially considering all of the options available involving teleportation and/or scouting.

And Mordrak can still 'go wherever they want on their own, and DS into or run into cover or get completely out of LOS'. All the while allowing a SR and Dread to deploy exactly where you want them, first turn.

Yes, the benefit to them is almost nil. Unless you want to keep him *in* the raven. Useful if you thnk you'll be facing a lot of Plasma guns.

The benefit to the Raven and Dread however, is immense.

Oh and if that '1 melta shot' destorys a LR, then you've made the SR points back, and more.

You *can't* teleport a Dread, but yu can socut it 6". If that gets it onto first turn 2d6 Melta range (like disembarking form the SR can do), then gratz.

And just as importantly, anything that causes this much argument grief probably isn't worth attempting during a game anyway. ^_^

No, of course not. Arguing that a dreadknight can ride inside a Stormraven would be a far better idea, if the goal is to have silly arguments, methinks. Although at least in that case, I can see some real in game utility. Unlike the idea in this thread.
