The Reaver Beaver
I have been trying to catch up on Blood angel fluff and I came across Sergeant Rafen. I was wondering have they ever made a model of this guy? (a bit off topic but like they did gotreck and felix a while back) and if so did they give him any special rules? shan vener
no they never made a model or a set of rules for him. although i don't think that those books are where you should be getting fluff considering that almost nobody took those books seriously, but IMO they're still a good read. Terrahawk
Sergeant Rafen doesn't exist. (Hands to ears, lalalalalalalalalalala...). Seriously speaking, brother shan would be correct, no model or rules for him. I'll also accept wholeheartily the Blood Angels featured in Soul Hunter into my personal world as I do with the legendary Bloodquest. Brother Chris
Rafen is the guy on the front of the BA omnibus, reproduced on the BA second wave WD. He is also on one of the orginal Deus BA book covers. The nearest figure to him is the old BA metal sergeant with bare head. I think in the books he generally has the same weaponry, bolt pistol and chainsword, occassionally a plasma pistol. If you wanted to make the same figure in plastic, you would need the winged blood-drop torso front from the baal pred set (annoyingly this is not in the DG or SG sets) and bits of tactical marine and DC depending on preference. The lovely (clint langley)? picture shows him with regular tactical shoulder insignia, rather than sergeant's ones. This may be a mistake or it may be that Rafen follows a trick sometimes mentioned in IG fiction, drawing from real historical examples, of conspicuous rank badges being concealed. This isn't mentioned in the book, so I suspect it is just a mistake. As he has no special rules, just call one of your sergeant's Rafen. If the books are anything to be believed, the heavy weapons marine in his squad is a specialist and wears a blue devastators pattern helmet. BLACK BLΠFLY
Here are some home made rules I crafted for Brother Rafen: Statline WS5-BS4-S4-T4-W2-A3-I5-Ld10-Sv2+/4++* Brother Rafen has a 4++ invulnerable save in melee as he is whispered to be a chosen of the Sanguinor. Brother Rafen counts as an assault Marine sergeant and thus cannot be targeted in melee. His squad automatically succumbs to the Red Thirst on the eve before battle. Rafen carries a master crafted plasma pistol and the Sanguine Blade. The Sanguine Blade confers +1S or can be double handed striking last at S8 and always ignores armor saves. he is costed at 155 points. At Gius Point is one of the novels in there, and one I have been looking forward to reading. Commissar Joe
This is something I am very glad to hear. I bought the Book of the Blood from the Black Library on demand printing about two weeks ago, still waiting for it to get here. At Gius Point is one of the novels in there, and one I have been looking forward to reading. Alas, Gaius Point isn't a full novel, just a short story. A freaking fantastic short story. I'm not a fan of the Rafen books but they did improve as they went along (I think James Swallow's BL works have been improving with every book). Having said that there are some scenes in the books which I did enjoy; the depiction of Mephistion butchering Word Bearers was war porn and the meeting between Dante and the Chapter Masters of the Blood Angel successor chapters highlighted some interesting relationships between the Chapters. It's probably unlikely but I'd love to see a novel or trilogy for the Flesh Tearers in the future. The image of the Flesh Tearers as the unwanted sons of Sanguinius, a chapter in decline, fighting against their nature sounds deliciously 40K to me! Tabgoi
I meant story instead of novel, but the point was I have been looking forward to it. 15 days ago i ordered the book of the Book of the Blood, same day i went to the battle bunker got Black Tide and Enforcer, I have had nothing to read in a week and a half. Hence, getting anxious for it to come. I am starting to wonder how long it takes mail to get to the U.S. from the U.K. I mean seriously it only took us four days to get stuff back and forth from Iraq.
