Brother_Israfil
Hail, Battle Brothers. Here's the squad I pledged to finish for the Librarium Painting Challenge. http://i.imgur.com/igZfG.jpg The two special weapon marines are magnetized. http://i.imgur.com/BZJBj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CbQ0O.jpg Here's a 360 view of the Sergeant to give look at how these were done. http://i.imgur.com/LhdM5.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TCt32.jpg http://i.imgur.com/edBg3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/d49mk.jpg If I ever decide on how I want to base my army, I'll get to that. In the meantime, green compliments the red armor.
Mr.darkness
they are pretty good, and well done for completing your vow. there is only one thing i disagree with, the highlights. i find that they are a bit too extreme. like on the helmets, you have highlighted skull white for yellow? i just think that is too much contrast. also on the bolt pistols, i think the grey should be a little darker. the red however is very good, may i ask how did you do that? also, what size magnets did you use for the special weapons? were they rare earth? Brother_Israfil
... the highlights. ...they are a bit too extreme. I get what you are saying. I find extreme highlights to work rather well when viewed on the tabletop. I think the gray on the bolter casings would look better if I had better brush control and could paint a finer line. The red is: Black base coat Mechrite red 2-4 thinned layers of blood red A slightly darkened fiery red highlight I like my angles broody. The magnets are 1/16 x 1/32 inch discs. (~1.6mm x .8mm) Let me flog my favorite retailer:K&J Magnetics I would suggest two things when working with magnets. 1) Consistently mark the same magnetic pole with a permanent marker. I dot the "top" of each magnet tower with red marker, so I can keep the polarities straight and never glue a magnet in so it's repulsing its brother. 2) Use drill bits the same size as the magnet for a perfect hole every time. Thanks for the feedback.
AGPO
I really like the colour scheme, and the red looks really good. Only two tips I would have would be to go back with some chaos black and even up the grey highlights, and to maybe give the melmets a yellow wash to improve the highlights there. Basing will make a MASSIVE difference to the look of your army, even if it's just sticking on some flock or sand. I'd really give recommend giving it a go just to do these models justice.
