Using the Basic Blocks to Build GK List

I am one of those who will have to waint until Mid April to get a codex and buy the box sets of GKSS to fill out my army. In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone has tried just building a list with the basics. I see alot of palidan, special charachters, etc.

Has anyone got any games in with using loads of GKSS.

For example:

Libby w/summoning, Might, Stealth, servo skulls, difficlut terrain power, maybe some others

Inq with good grenades and hell rifle, servo skulls

2-3 psybolt Dreds

3-5 GKSS with psybolt ammo, 2 psycannons, MC DH, rhino as possible.

Henchman shooty squad

Here's my list:

It's got a dreadknight, but that could easily be swapped for soemthing else. Also, in the two games I've used it, it hasn't done much :whistling:

For purifiers, I'm just painting my existing GK's heads white. Seeing as most of my existing guys have Halberds, they are much more points efficient to be turned into purifiers rather than used as GKSS.

The list has worked pretty well so far, only used it twice though.

I've witnessed (well, sorta.... I was playing next to the table) a game where there was two Librarians riding around in two Stormravens and then something like six squads of GKSS's. I want to say it was 2000 or so points. The GKSS's deployed in the back and the Libbies flew around Summoning them to key points. He was playing against a Mephiston "Tournement" list with lots of assault Marines, some Dreads, and two Stormravens. The battle was pretty brutal and I believe the GK player won, but it was pretty close. I believe Warp Quake also ruined some of what the Blood Angels player was trying to accomplish... I don't have too many more details than that

Having played GKs for a few years and built up a substantial number of metal models, I've been making a lot of lists using only things I already own.

This is my 1500pt list I want to try out sometime. Only 1 GKSS, but still pretty basic. All I have to do is swap in a few thunder hammers and signify somehow which models have personal teleporters.

I also played a 2000pt game recently. I won Annihlation vs. IG, 10KPs to his 5. This is the list I used:

GM: Halberd

6 GKTs: Incinerator, 3 Halberd, 2 Sword, Hammer

10 Strike Knights: 2 Psycannons, Hammer, Rhino

10 Strike Knights: 10 Halberds, Rhino

10 Interceptors: 2 Psycannons, Psybolts, 5 Halberds

Land Raider: Psybolts

Crusader: Psybolts

Dreadnought: 2 Autocannons, Psybolts

I've been running a 2k list that looks like this:

Grand Master, servo-skulls

Librarian, servo skulls, the summoning, might of titan, warp quake, the shrouding

(he rides with the Terminators below, sometimes I drop him for an extra terminator and a vindicare)

GKSS x10, 2 psycannons, rhino, MC Hammer

GKSS x10, 2 psycannons, rhino, MC Hammer

Terminators x5, 2 sword, 1 halberd, 1 hammer, Thawn (considering trading them out for 5 Paladins wit the same weapons based on how my last game went)

Storm Raven (no upgrades)

Interceptors x10, psybolt ammo, 2x psycannons, MC hammer

Dreadknight, heavy psycannon, teleporter

About half 'standard' units with a storm raven, some interceptors, and a dreadknight thrown in.

I haven't played any 'serious' games with it but it certainly seems workable. The GKSS are just as fragile as any marine against the right firepower, but they pack enough firepower to really make their presence felt if you don't walk them into a killing zone. (not that I would know from experience...) The interceptors and Dreadknight have really been the twin stars of every game in which I've used them, though. I think that this bodes well for the Strike Squad, as the Interceptors are just more mobile Strike Knights.
