My DA 5th Coy

Recommended Posts

Couldn't find my original topic so I made a new one. Now that Mrs Kebab has stopped spitting out babies (for now, at least), I've been able to actually START painting my 2500(ish) points of DA. So here's Sgt. Palacios, Sgt. Korsten and an as yet, un-named Sgt.

C & C welcome as always.

Looking good

Ideas:

- the banners seem a bit black templarish...maybe drawing a DA icon?

- middle and right banner need a bit of a touchup on the squares intersection

- the robes seem a bit light, have you tried a brown wash? Sepia works well

- the base rim is also a bit shinny...maybe dulling it with some brown or grey?

Keep it up!

Cheers Tanhausen, yeah, I'm going to put DA logo on the banners when I'm happy with them - 10 years of Marines an these are my first ever attempt at banners! Robes are still Dheneb Stone, need to be Bleached Bone yet, and thats a great idea for dulling my bases down, cheers!

I feel your pain: I have started painting after 6 years (did a 3 month try with my DW but got frustrated) and when you see all the great painting people do here...sometimes you think "why do I bother"...but that is when we Brothers come to the rescue and give hope :P

Don't stop painting!!

I think you are doing well. There is nothing more exhilerating than trying something new and see it come good. You've done your first free hand banners, well done! The DA icons will add flavour to them. I agree with all Tanhausen has daid.. especially the keep painting part! Look forward to seeing your army grow.

You six years... me too.. and i really do know the feeling.... Important factor is to let the brilliant painters and modellers here be an inspiration rather than put you off.... and you are very correct i that this place certainly encourages one to go for broke..:)

Good job, are they finished yet? They just look a bit incomplete. I can the brush strokes on the base, and you can see how it's thinned out in the middle and a bit to the right one as well.

The middle mini's face, looks a bit off. Maybe it's the lighting when taking the picture, (I can't take good pics at all, this is better than mine) but they eyes look missing. So I am not sure if you did the eyes or not.

I like the look of pure white robes. It gets a bit tiring how everyone has dirty robes, it's nice that some DA actaully wash thier clothes. It's almost like SM don't shower. I do agree the banners seem to be missing something like the broken sword or something else to make them more Dark Angleish.

Yeah, I need to learn how to paint faces! Bases need another coat I think. I'm trying to get them all table-top ready before my mate does his Knife-Ears army, and it now takes about an hour per Marine after undercoat to get this far - only 60 hours to go!

Once you have a pattern... STICK TO IT.

You'll go soooooooo much faster when doing batches.

I'm actually writing up my steps for my RW... so when I actually get so time to paint, I don't have to think or remember, just paint and relax :)

For example:

- Prime black (duh)

- basecoat astronomican grey the clear parts (feathered parts, cammo areas and robes if necessary)

- basecoat red feathered poles

- touch-up black possible (certain!!) mistakes

- violet ink on feathered parts... x2

(I'm at this point right now :P)

Doing 16 bikes at a time is quite a pain...but we shall endure!

First you get the painted minis... then you get the money, then you get the power and then... you know what follows ;)

Minis look awsome, but one small critisism. For me I don't like the colour of the base on the last 2 pics. It's a personal thing, I think they should be more darker brown, it's too light for my tastes. If you like it then leave it, but just saying what I think, other than that, an excellent job and looking forward to the clearer pics, as was said try using a white background and Macro settings on the camera IF you have them.

Well, I haven't posted in a while, but I've got loads and loads done. So much so that I've started on some Deathwing. I'll post more pics when I'm less drunk, but here's a teaser. Oh, and how do I paint scribbles on scrolls?

Awesome sauce. The brassy gold looks very nice against the Deathwing armour colour you use. Overall though all the models look too gold when grouped together – maybe a black wash will tone down and harmonise at a later stage??

But it's great to see the 5th Company taking shape so well. Nice basing colours too -_-.

Cheers

AHA! I knew a had a half decnt photo somewhere!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/Mr-Stabby/DSC00573.jpg

I really wanted them to look like they'd been in a space hulk, what with them being space hulk termies and all, so I drowned them with Badab Black!

I'm back! I have now set myself a deadline. I need to have finished everything I've got by November or my wife won't buy me any more Marines for my Birthday! I've decided that GW transfers suck more than an industrial sucking machine, so I'm going to free-hand all my DA icons. Except for the banners.

Heres a pic to show my intent and my non-progress since my last post.

Good times, great to have you back Mr Kebab ;)

Keep up the good work, your painting is improving every squad, if you stick to your schedule you'll notice even more improvement.

Question though; do you paint the green of the PA last? that seems the hardest way to do it, I paint recessess first and work out, less chance of slipping etc....

Can't wait to see the project complete ^_^
