Cessna
I'm considering starting an Angels Sanguine army. I really like the divided red/black paint scheme. It is my understanding that part of their background is that their "Battle Brothers" never remove their helmets. That's fine, I'm not a big fan of the bare-headed look anyway. But what about their Scouts? Are they "Battle Brothers," in which case I'll need to come up with some sort of helmet? Or perhaps the rule doesn't apply to neophyte Scouts yet? Yes, I know, they're my toys, I can come up with whatever I see fit. I'm just curious if anyone has come up with any sort of ideas here.
Tabgoi
Scouts are not marines yet, they have not recieved all their implants so technically they are not Battle Brothers. Its kind of how chapters are at 1,000 marines even thought there are technically 10 companies but Marines drive the vehicles and such. The tenth company really only has what, 11 actual Marines in it. I would say though that you probably would want the scouts to have helmets just so they fit with the rest of your force, and I think it would be a bit more fluffy. That said, I have no clue how you would go about modeling them, the standard marine helms would look pretty bad.
Squirrel_Fish
It's not too difficult to find some nice helmets that don't look atrociously large. Here are some of my scouts with helmets from Pig Iron Productions
knife&fork
The elysian drop troop heads could work as well. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4000...ESPIRATORS.html I'm partial to the pig iron helmets myself because they kind of look like the original Doom marine. ^_^
Tabgoi
Okay, wow that works really well. I have not seen those before, I would consider using them on my scouts and I just run regular old fashion Blood Angels. Actually change that to really tempted. Slinky
Regardless of the fluff, the bare scout heads look so awful that imho they should always be replaced with helmeted heads :) Pig Iron ones work well.
AGPO
Wow the pig iron minis look great! I've been wrestling with this issue myself as an angels sanguine player. Does anyone have any pics better pics of the drop troop helmets on models? I can't really get an idea of what they look like from here.

JamesI
Not all AS players accept the more recent fluff about AS not going unhelmeted. Look at some of OwlandMoonGuy's brilliant work as examples. But even accepting that fluff, the scouts aren't really full Battle brothers yet, no need to go helmeted.
Brother Nathan
although not full marines, ba scouts do have most, if not all of the transplanted organs. i believe. cause of the whole year in the coffin gettin the implants etc... probably they are just missing the black carpace. And it also depends on what you think of the flaw with them to be...
WarpWalker
I would definitely put a helmet on the scouts. But here is a crazy idea... why not use the Sanguinary guard death mask heads just all trimmed up. The plastic scouts heads are the same size as the standard marine's bare head, right? Now they wear a mask then when they are marines wear a helmet?
1Drop
Scouts are probably the only models I actually think look good without helmets aside from a few characters in any SM army with the exception also of some DA and chaos marines.
BLACK BLΠFLY
Scouts wearing helmets never worked for me. G
knife&fork
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Why not, too much like imperial guard? The scout headsculpts are some of the worst in the entire GW product catalog. The sniper ones are a little better and the wolf scouts not bad at all. I would definitely put a helmet on the scouts. But here is a crazy idea... why not use the Sanguinary guard death mask heads just all trimmed up. The plastic scouts heads are the same size as the standard marine's bare head, right? BLACK BLΠFLY
The head sculpts for the new scouts are crap indeed. Still the helmet looks retarded to me. G :(
Tabgoi
I agree with the bare heads looking bad, but I do not ahve any of those new fangled plastic scouts. And after modifying a metal apothecary to get rid of his bare head and put a helmet on him I am going to try and keep the major metal miniature modification to special characters. AGPO
I have no idea what the reasoning behind it is and kind of like leaving it that way. Yes it holds me back a little in terms of modelling as I can't use the awesome bear head pieces but that doesn't bother me in the least. On a serious note, why don't ALL Space Marines wear their helmets all the time? Incalculable effort has gone into creating the best protective armour the galaxy has ever seen to protect you from the myriad of nasty, gribbly things out there, not to mention all the resources that got pumped into creating you in the first place, or the fact that you are quite litterally the human race's only hope of survival, so it's kind of important you try to stay alive when in battle, not expose your most vulnerable area where you can be killed by an unlukcy shard of stone. Not to mention it's the leaders of the army who expose themselves in this way, you know, the ones making the tactical decisions and co-ordinating the battle through the communication relays in their... helmets. Angels Sanguine - the only Space Marine officers whose brains are deemed worth protecting.
BLACK BLΠFLY
It just looks more BAMF to wear a death mask. G :(

This has been discussed thousand times to death... The consensus is: The helmetless design of models is esthetical decision rather than accurate representation, ie. Rule of Cool. Brother Chris
I'm sure there was a discussion about this some time ago. There are some woodelves with hoods and scarves over their faces which could work with the sniper cloaks. Or green-stuff masks. For normal BA scouts the plastic scout heads are from the idiotic 'Catachan' camp of cartoon GI Joe. Can't imagine what possessed GW to make such ugly childish things. The metal versions were better. But (I haven't tried it) won't the longhaired pretty boy heads in the new DC and SG sets fit on scouts?

knife&fork
The Pig Iron helmets are great, you can get them at the the warstore. The downside is that for us in EU the S&H will be quite expensive compared to the forgeworld stuff, due to the bulky package and high weight (compared to plastics). Taz
Why not go with face-obscuring hoods? Those can't be hard to greenstuff and they solve everything rather neatly.
