Important Hammers

Hey, im fairly new but im getting prepared for a 2k pt tournament in may, Im running a pretty basic Mech list... I was wondering how important are hammer units liks Terminators... i dont really have any hard hitting melee, Basically razor spam with 1 10 man squad to chase objectives... other than that its a mech list.

Can i survive without having an assault terminator or a really heavy hitting unit? instead ill just have a bunch of little 5 man squads and a ten man, im just wondering if i run into other armies with strong hammers, i might not be able to deal with that... should i develop a strategy to avoid move around those units or do i need at least one or two hammer units of my own to combat it?

Im currently trying assault terminators in a stormraven gunship, but i would really like to cut them because its so many points, but not sure if thats wise or not

Also, how many scoring units should i have? i currently have 3 5 man Razorback squads and 1 10 man rhino squad... i kind of want to add another 5 man razorback squad, but i was told thats too many weak units.

Thanks!!

If you don't have any real hard hitters you have to max out on mobile firepower. Predators, razorbacks, speeders, bikes, dreads. Small marine squads are not of much use on their own.

Without any large squads you have to be quite careful about how you use your units as they can be reduced below scoring size very easily. It is still perfectly doable, just watch where your guys are and try to make combined assaults when you can.

Seriously? Good lord, a single surviving assault marine can score but ten Sternguards, best of the best light infantry cannot? This edition is going to kill me trying to keep track of all the changes. I probably cannot remember this one since I don't believe in objective based games. I may draw them, but I play every game like its annihilation. If I hold an objective at the end of the game its probably because that's where the last of my opponent's army died. Well, one time it was because I told my opponent my men were going to pee on some Eldar statue because it was the way of my people, and it took a while for a full tac squad to kill off two full guardian squads in close combat, but he was the one who set the statue as an objective.
