Autobot Tran
Heyo! so im starting to get some of my first models in and i was wondering about the painting... When i paint these models (and i want them to be ready for tournament use) do they have to be all red? are there variations that i can do? what are the specific rules as to keeping with the "fluff" and how most tournamets work? I mean i probably cant just paint them blue and say they are Blood Angels right? I defintely want to paint them red but kinda wanted to add some other colors or maybe have some units have red as a base and splash on other colors Thanks!! Brother Nathan
blood angels have a rather strict scheme. shade of red and coloured parts. ofcourse if you dont like that ou can play as a succesor chapter and paint them pretty much however you want. lamenters are yellow for instance. id advoid non red marines for a ba succesor yet it can be done. at the end of the day your minis, do as you want. just your opponents will appriciate it more the more effort you put in... Tabgoi
Well, if you want a bunch of colors I would suggest going with a successor instead of the parent chapter. But the parent chapter does have a lot of color other than red. Blue helmets on Devs, yellow helmets on Ras, gold on Vets, Totally gold on Sang Guard, you can do your San Priests in White, you can do your libbies is almost full blue, your tech marines are mostly dark red, and you have the black of the death company and chaplains. Really, there is a lot of color once you start thinking about it.
vharing
Alot of ppl have been making their armies be what ever and just saying they are counts as. Khorne is a popular one to be a counts as BA. Like Brother Nathan said if you dont want to paint strickly blood red try a successor. I have around 4000pts worth of BA and I am tired of painting red but I keep on going. 1Drop
I haven't even got on to painting a red model yet as I have started with the DC section of my army, haha. Gonna rectify that with a squad of beautiful blood red attack bikes next week tho :) But more on topic.. I wouldn't worry about painting 'just red' as death company are black, sanguinary guard are gold and.. Well I could go on but someone has already pointed all of this out earlier. Autobot Tran
cool! thanks guys. Where do you find the successor colors, i found them in the codex but couldnt find the colors? I dont mind painting them red i was just thinking of some different colors for highlights or something. Also, say eventually i want to play a different army, but i have Red assault troops, could i take that to a tournament and play it as ultramarines or spacewolves or something? or are things like that not allowed? I don't think you could play it as a named chapter like ultramarines or space wolves as this contradicts all the fluff and GW wouldn't allow it.. I remember during the tyranid invasion quite a long time ago the land raider had been discontinued and they wouldn't let me use my BA landraider in the store just cos it wasn't available in the store anymore! They seam pretty strict about this stuff! However if you wanted to use them in your own chapter and made up the fluff to fit it no one could really argue with you. AGPO
It depends. Most people will be fine with you painting a DIY colour scheme and use whichever space marine list you fancy. Once you've painted your guys as a chapter with a given list though, it's a question of WYSIWYG and most people wouldn't be happy with say using a space wolf army as C.A. blood angels. For example, you'd have a hard time telling whether those sky claws are counting as Sanguinary Guard, Vanguard Veterans, Honour Guard or just a plain regular Assault Squad. 1Drop
What's 'WYSIWYG'? Oh right, 'what you say is what you got'? Is that right and if so what does it mean aside from the obvious meaning of the sentence in the English language (sorry for yet another probably silly question)
Brother Nathan
pretty much. means that models have to have the correct equipment. a standard tactical marine(bolter) cant be used as an assault marine(jump pack and bolt pistol and ccw) for instance. however it is possible to build some models so that they work with in several codexes... AGPO
Stands for 'What You See Is What You Get.' In other words, your opponent should be able to look at your army and know what each unit is and what kit it's got. So if you give your sergeant a power fist and melta bombs, you have to give him a power fist and melta bombs. Likewise if you have a unit of vanguard and a unit of assault marines in your army you have to make them look different so your opponent can tell which is which.
