Wolf Standard conversions

there's a difference between a wolf standard and a great company banner forte :) just think of a wolf standard as one of the many relics each great company has. while there will most likely be only one great company banner who's THE banners of banners so to speak ;) in our previous dex only 1 grey hunter was allowed to carry one of our many banners into battle

we also had 2 distinct banner pieces:

first, the great company banner:

each great company has its own banner, inscribed with finely woven runes and pictures which tell the history of the company. Only a wolf guard champion in the wolf lord's bodyguard may carry a great banner.

second, the wolf totem;

all space wolves great companies have totems and banners which are sometimes carried into battle by a grey hunter. these have the same affect as a sacred standard(see C:SM)

So pretty much anything from those backpack icons on the current sprues to full on banners are plausible. Useful to know.

Shame about losing access to the Great Company and Chapter standards though. Someone trying to convince people that those mean nothing to the Wolf Brethren!

totally unrelated topic, but Brother Ramses.. I happen to check for updates on your army, but instead came across some of your fluff. It was a good read! well done! and keep up the good job.

Part of the "new" army will have a focus on sagas. Does that mean every single model in my army will have his own saga in my fluff section? We will see. Hahahaha!

Well I like what I'm seeing in this thread, so I'll put up my Wolf Standard models too.

As you can see (or maybe not) I'm using the plastic back banners from the pack box. I'm a big fan of having multiple options in my models, so each of the banners has a wire peg attached to the pole, with a hole in the top of the backpacks drilled out on the marines. This just allows me to have the options of having a standard or not without having to make an extra model. Each of my 4 GH packs has one of these guys ready, I just need to paint the actual banners.

Now, this next guy is the result of an idea I had last night.

I really enjoyed seeing the stuff in this thread and I hadn't had a look in our codex for a while, as I've been too busy with uni to get any games in (sadly). What I felt was missing was the equivalent of the Great Company Standard from the marine book (well, I had a quick look last night and couldnt find an equivalent), so I made a guy to fit the bill. The Ulrik style helm is used as my GC marking is the Gunnar Red Moon logo, so my WG and HQ units will probably all have these helms if any to make them stand out. I haven't thought of a name for him just yet, I'm thinking about a title rather than a name like The Wolf-Touched or The Chosen of Russ, but I came up with a bit of fluff to explain him.

He was the lone survivor of his GH pack and he took up the Great Company banner after he witnessed the previous carrier being slain. When he saw the banner fall, he felt so much rage that it started to manifest the change in him. He has not lost his mind, but he physically started to change, hence the bare wulfen arm clutching the pole. It was as if the full potential of his ferocity was unleashed when the banner bearer was killed. Upon returning the banner to the GC, he was initiated into the Wolf Guard and he is now the only member of my company that carries the company banner, as he has never let it fall nor let any adversary even grasp it during battle.

It's a bit weak at the moment and the story needs fleshing out, but I was going to run him as either a Lone Wolf with a Power Fist or as a Wolf Lord for the Saga of Majesty to reflect the effect that the Great Company banner would have on the troops depending on the points value of the battle I'm playing. I know the Wolf Lord stats are probably a bit too high, but I felt the saga gave the right effect.

I just quite liked the idea of having a hero character that carries your company standard into battle each time.

That looks awesome, can't waite to see him painted up!

just making conversation :( would have been nice to have something similar for the wolves, a generic plastic great company banner like theirs.. that's "so" E for a little envy.

--EDIT--

So? I dunno about you Max, but it would have been nice if we got something like one of the big banners shown on either pg67 or pg70. Like the IRONWOLF company banner or even the Chapter Banner. With the plastic detail they have for the Grey Knights or San Guard, mentioned on my previous comment. Just saying.
