Scouts accession

You use the, "Well, what makes you so much better than the codex" statement on every one elses posts when they have minor deviations from the codex, but when someone uses that on you (even though I had actually said that each chapter can do it differantly), you flip out?

Sounds like some one has a bad case of hypocracy.

This reply told me exactly what I need to know:

#A You don't have idea of what is Codex Astartes.

#B You don't pay attention to my responses in this forum at all.

#A Codex Astartes is much more than set of organisational rules. It's compendium of wisdom of thousands of Imperial warriors through millenia of eternal war. In this vast tome you can find articles on the markings and heraldry, doctrines, order of battle, tactical and strategical advices or actuall descriptions of ancient battles.

The Organisation section is just small part of it.

#B Yes, I bark at people who:

- think that single dude is capable of outdone the Codex Astartes in terms of strategy and tactic. /// Knights Vulpine

- don't grasp the function of codex organisation and are just "Rawgr, I hate codex". /// Sanguinary Crusaders

- don't follow the intentions and teachings of codex in very excessive way. /// Night Hawks and Sons of Pyron.

You know, it does not really matter. I know what I know, which is being read straight from the codex. I know what I know from the Index Astartes. If you want to think you are the Fluff God, thats fine by me, but I am going to back out of this debate. It has nothing to do with the topic.

Don't pull me and my Sons into the debacle.

The Codex is a guide not a set of rules. Chapters are free to use the parts they want. I've seen nothing in official fluff that says its forced on any Chapter.

EDIT:

As can easily be seen here, everyone has their own interpretation of what is and isn't said in GWs published Codex: Space Marines. I see the much larger, much older tome of the Codex suffering the same fate.

I think that we can all agree that the Codex Astartes is not something that says that "ALL CHAPTERS MUST DO IT THIS WAY!" but can also agree that MOST chapters largely agree to follow the spirit of the Codex. In addition, there is only ONE legion that does not follow the codex to SOME degree and various Chapters, but these are all typically exceptions to the rule. True, you can make your Chapter one of those, but there had better be a REALLY good reason for them to NOT abide by the Codex structure. Whether that means that they have gradually moved away from most of the strict organization due to numbers or how they fight, but if you don't have a good reason other than, "we don't like the way it looks!" I would heavily suggest against challenging the Codex structure. Small changes are usually acceptable as is scouts being assigned to battle companies and the like. We have to remember that our Chapters are kind of filling out the ranks and while they have stuff that makes them unique, it can be in a lot of other ways than saying, "Hi! We're new and what you do sucks cuz we said so!"
