Robes

My Space Marines' armour is red and white, kind of similar to the Sons of Orar, at least in tone. However, my veterans wear robes (I use the DA veterans models). I would just like some advice on what colour to paint the robes... I guess I'm kind of looking for a contrasting colour to stand out, but not one that makes the marines look like they belong in a circus.

 

Can you guys please give me some advice?

Black is probably the best contrast with red and white under it.

well if you go into colour theory, the actual contrasting colour for red is green, however I find that red and green together makes it look more like a christmas tree then a marine. black would also contrast, however as a robe I'm not too sure how well it would look.

 

I guess depending on how bright the Red is, it might be possible to do the inner part of the robe as a REALLY dark maroon or red, with the outside a lightish sort of colour, maybe either a grey or tan sort of colour.

I would think about trying a medium-dark grey. It would look distinct against the red and white Marines.

You could also try a really deep blue for the inner lining. I think with a red and white scheme, I would go with grey robes with blue linings, though you could switch it up.
