New Grey Knights (pics)

So, I woke up this morning (well, afternoon) to a lovely box of Grey Knight goodness. Codex and two Strike Squad boxes. I just finished making my first Knight and thought, why not post him for you guys to see?

At first I was planning on using Angelus Boltguns on them, as I thought the SBs were too big, but when you see them infront of you, they look fine. In the end I just modified the clip on the SB, as it looked like he was gonna trip up on the damn thing. Although if anyone doesn't like the SB, the Angelus Bolters do fit nicely.

Anyway, enough talk, here he is, my first Grey Knight,

sorry the pics aren't too great, taken on an Iphone. The SB still looks a little big in the pics, but like I said, looks fine in reality. Now I just need to decide whether or not to "Requisition" my BA Successor's StormRaven for my knights :) (Yes, I played BA and now GK, what can I say, I'm weak, and the models are so shiny!)

So, anyone else got any pics of the new Knights to share? I'd love to see me some Termies :)

Looks good, although now the magazine looks like it can only hold one round! Perhaps the mags from the Angelus boltguns...?

Are you happy with the kit? Does the sprue offer as many possibilities as the pics on the website suggest? Can't wait for Saturday to pick up my first couple of boxes!

If you wanted to see what the kit can offer, I highly suggest buying the newest White Dwarf, as it has a complete breakdown of what each kit comes with, who it's meant for, and what it looks like unsprued, as well as notes on how you could position your arms and torsos to give off different effects (like an overhead swing, side block, calling out to someone etc).

Well I was thinking with the bolters, they could be like those old WW2 Rifles, where the clip goes into the body of the gun itself, so the clip would be the same size, just fully slotted into the bolter. Like I said the angelus bolter fitted perfectly too, just looked a bit weedy compared to the big ass swords etc. I very almost used them though.

And yes, its a great little Kit. The possibilities for posing seem endless, especially if you aren't affraid of a little shoulder shaving to adjust the poses. There seems to be a bit less content than the BA sprues however, but the detail is much crisper. The writing on the knees/pads etc. is ridiculously clear.

And I think it is just the pic making the sword look too big. This is one of those kits you have to see in person, pictures don't do it justice. That particular pose makes the blade seem bigger too, the one I just made with a horizontal blade looks nicer. You also get tons of Nemesis Falchions(the +1 attack ones) so you could use a single one of those for a smaller sword. It's not like you will be using the Falchions very often anyway.

I definately need to get that white dwarf. Had a quick look in the shop when I ordered, there was also a tasty looking Flesh Tearers army(contrasted by the ugly-ass paintjob on GW Blood Angels, tomato marines, yuck)

The clip was super easy. just chop the very bottom part off (just before the "lip") leaving a tiny bit of the middle section. Then glue it on. You could leave the clips off entirely, but there would be a big square hole on the side of the gun. Could be greenstuffed in probably though. And thanks for the comments guys, those combined with a bit of Saxon and a lovely sandwich have put me in a good mood, so I'm uploading more pics as we speak. Including a white-tacked Grey Knight with an Angelus bolter, so you can see what looks like. Should be posting them in a mo.

*Edit*

Just make sure not to cut down the magazine with clippers, I tried that on the first one and they just destroyed the bit I wanted to keep. Hobby Knife worked much better, just a straight cut just above the lip at the bottom

So, here is the Grey Knight with Angelus Bolter. Looks awesome to me, but I prefered the Grrr of the big ass Storm Bolter(that, and my brother said it looked better, he is normally right about these things)

And here is my second GK, with a horizontal sword pose. Makes the sword look less clumsy to me.

And for good measure, though I'd post my other GK things I was working on while waiting for my new stuff to arrive.

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor w/ Power Armour and Daemon Hammer(and shield cos it looks nice, could always represent Termie armour methinks, artificer for the 2+, and a crappy Storm Shield?)

A couple of shots of my Psyfleman Dread(unfortunately, he is primed, so the pics totally suck)

Lastly, my stormraven, with ugly-proof front mounted Ass Cannons. The turret just had to go. Also, I know the back wing is mounted backwards, thought it looked better like that, and the bits that move(don't have a clue what they are called, the flappy bits) can be an air brake now I guess. Should she be red or silver? what do you guys think?

Also, noone else has any pics to share? c'mon spread the love, I wanna see some Termies :D

Haha, I'll try and refrain from more pics, I kinda got carried away ;)

Looking forward to the photos KnowThyEnemy, I managed to restrain myself when I was ordering, I knew if I bought that much stuff I would never finish it. Kinda wish I had bought more now though ;)

I'm thinking I might use the Angelus Boltguns on my Purifiers, make em stand out more. I'm thinking of painting my army white, I already have Iron Warriors, so I don;t really fancy another all silver army

Although silver marines are quick to paint, hmm....needs more thought

One other thing, these guys can be a nightmare to assemble if they decide they don't like you. The first two were fine, but no.3 was a little *******. I ended up with arms glued all over the shop. I'm sure I'll find some stuck to my game board if I ever get round to painting it. Getting the hands and the arms to line up in a nice pose and maintaining a good bond is tricky. I also tried a guy armed with a SB and one Falchion, looks awesome, I might mix them throughout the squads. Surely noone will get confused with GKs armed with one sword? Its still a Nemesis Force Sword afterall.

Oh, now that the excitement has worn off a bit, I'm a bit disappointed with the number of bits. Compared to the BA and SW sprues its a bit....sparse. a couple of spare heads, 2 spare shoulders....meh. Although you do get tons of swords. Really, like, 12 or something? Unless you arm all your SS with pairs of falchions, you will have a pretty huge box of spare swords. I do like that they managed to keep the armour/weapons uniform, but still have the finished models look unique. Makes a nice change from the bling-tastic BA(I love those too though). Oh, anyone have any ideas for converting the teleporter backpacks yet? those pylons are a real eyesore. If you just chop them off will they still look like teleporters? they do have that fancy bit in the middle.

yea i couldnt help myself. thats just the stuff im waiting on, i already got all the razorbacks, landraiders, stormravens...ill stop because it was a long list :) . i figured ill be painting for a while anyway (not to mention all the lizardmen i have lying around) so i might as well have it all available. poses are looking good though. i already have 40 metal PAGK, so im thinking ill be using the new 20 for psycannons, incinerators and justicars/DHs/staves. got APOC on the mind lately. same goes for the termies. got 19 of them now (9 will be getting repainted ghostie-like) so the 15 will be apothecaries, banners, staves and falcions probably. already have plenty of magnitized psycannons for those guys
Well I was thinking with the bolters, they could be like those old WW2 Rifles, where the clip goes into the body of the gun itself, so the clip would be the same size, just fully slotted into the bolter.

I had the same idea the day the advance order pictures went up, I even compared it to a WWII rifle clip (posted the idea on warseer not B&C). The only difference is that I was going to use the end of a clip from a regular boltgun not the storm bolter clips from the GK sprue - would that cover the hole or would it leave some space? I was thinking I might want to save those double bolter clips for my bitz box as I've got plenty of extra regular boltguns.

I like your rifleman dread are the autocannons from the aegis defense line turret?

Very nice work on the storm raven, always looks better without the ridiculous looking turret and intake assembly.

Was going to ask that very question next!

Well, I've got a SR done. I kept the turret because.... well, I'm lazy

I use tamiya plastic cement:

http://www.freetimehobbies.com/TAM87038.aspx

It's a lot less messy. Just brush on a little and you can fiddle a bit with the part until they stick (20-40 seconds at least). I'm waiting for some Microsol to blend in that decal...

Thats a nice stormraven Boreas, I love the weathering on it. The main turn off for me with the default model is the ugly chicken-leg landing gear. With that in the retracted position, it looks 10x better imo. Helps balance it out a bit. I don't even mind the turret with the gear retracted.

Captain Psycho, I think a regular bolter clip should cover the hole nicely, it isnt that big(although its REALLY deep, like, all the way through the gun almost) And yeah, those are the defence line turrets combined with the dread shoulders. The manager at the local GW store had a spare sprue lying around that he let me have. Thats where the top bit on the Stormraven comes from actually :-p Luckily I'm blessed with two awesome GW stores nearby, and haven't been plagued by the problems some people seem to have. Its surprisingly easy to combine the Aegis arms with a dreads, you just clip the circular mount off the middle, and glue em on.

And that sounds like quite a collection you've got going KnowThyEnemy, I'd probably cry if I had anymore unpainted stuff infront of me. They all look at me so disappointedly xD Especially those 200 Clanrats awaiting paint :D You might wanna rethink the Ghost Knights though, you can only take 5 of em, so unless you plan on taking 2 Mordraks(Apoc Ghost Army?) you cant field that many. Also, Ghost Knights can't have Psycannons(I know you didn't mention it, but just incase)

Oh and I would assume Power Armour has some sort of Anti-Wrist Snap device built in, either that or GK are so badass now that they fight with broken arms to show how cool they are. I wouldn't put it past Ward :tu:

Imagine the bleeding recoil on your wrist with a storm bolter on those arms! bleeding hell!

Wrist? :) They're on the forearm, are you sure you mean the right joint?

Elbow, arguably, but wrist? :D

well forearm and almost resting or leaning on the wrist

Time for a quick update, I finished the first of my 5 man Strike Squads, they will be ten eventually, with Daemonhammers on the Justicars, but I'm working on 500 pts at a time, and couldn't fit them in yet.

I also had a bash at converting the Psycannon, as I much prefer the look of the Psilencer. I like the outcome, although it needs a bit of greenstuff to blend the join. I'll probably do that after I finish all my assembly, as I hate greenstuffing, I like to get it out of the way in one go.

Just noticed I forgot to clean up the end of the barrel :P I suppose thats one good thing about photographing minis, you always notice the mistakes.

So what do you guys think, do you like the new Psycannons design? It just looked a bit awkward to me, and I loved the terminator-esque arm mounted Psilencer. Then again I always hated the original design too.

I'll probably convert my Incinerators like this too. At least I'll have plenty of spare Psilencers to cut up, it's not as though I'm ever gonna field one now is it?
