1Drop
Ok so I'm planning on running two storm ravens and I'm wondering how people would normally support them!? I'm planning on probably running them down the flanks and I have two Baal predators and a squad of 3 attack bikes which could support them as these vehicles are fast and have decent firepower!! What are peoples thoughts for supporting storm ravens and what units do you usually use? Red Fury
sounds like you've already figured it out with the baals and attack bikes. Isn't the Storm Raven the support element here? Really they are just a transport, so turbo forward for the cover save, wait out one round of firing, turn 2 move forward and disgorge units to deal the death. The scouting baals will help increase the number of immediate threats on the board and will hopefully take some of the fire off of the ravens. You could possibly add a drop pod dread to increase the number of threats on turn 1. Nobody wants to ignore a crazed talon dread of doom. If you roll to go second you may keep everything in reserve and outflank the baals and deepstrike the ravens, target denial. But you may come in piece-meal, so I'd save it for going 2nd against a very shooty army you don't think you'll survive to move in turn 1. Black_Sky
My current list runs with three Ravens in mutual support hammering a flank. These are backed up by two Typhoons providing long range support. The first Raven will turbo forward and disgorge DC and DC-dread into my opponents squishies, while the other two with their tacs in tow will provide backup as needed. 1Drop
So should I use them in a pair down one flank or split them and have 1 SR and the bikes down one flank and the other SR and the 2 baals down the other? I could split the baals too and have one Baal and one SR down each side but I don't really want to split the baals up! The other option would be to have both baals and both SR's together down one flank and the three attack bikes taking care of the other! Also I'm gonna have a vindicator on the board but I don't want to use everything assuring the SR's deliver their cargo without being popped. Any thoughts? And redfinger.. Thanks for your advice but I am wanting advice for the units mentioned really but suggestions for other units are also very welcome as I could add other units but my fast attack I'd definitely chosen and full up now! Ps the cargo of my SR's will be 1 with 10 dc and astorath and dc dread and the 2nd will have 5 cc terminators a sang priest and a Chaplin as well as a librarian dread (if aloud.. How many elites can I field?) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226047-supporting-storm-ravens/#findComment-2706794 Share on other sites
Corby
You can field three elite choices Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226047-supporting-storm-ravens/#findComment-2706853 Share on other sites
1Drop
You can field three elite choices So it's 2 HQ 3 elite 3 fast and 3 heavy.. Is it 6 troops that I'm aloud or 4? (sorry I don't have a rule book at the minute as I lost it years ago and my brother can't find his either.. Gonna have to buy another I think) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226047-supporting-storm-ravens/#findComment-2706928 Share on other sites
Baba Lem
You have to deploy 1x HQ, 2x Troops. You may, additionally, 1x HQ, 4x Troops, 3x Elite, 3x Fast, 3x Support. Rounding up at 2x HQ, 6x Troops, 3x Elite, 3x Fast, 3x Support as the filled out force organization chart. Isryion
I really like having my VV in my Stormraven list (whether I take one or two). I don't think of the Stormraven as just a transport, either. They can deal a lot of damage in their own right. In general, people will ignore your other elements in order to try and take them out, at least until they've dropped their cargo. Zeller
I'd also propose Land Speeders if for nothing else than for theme. Everything flies...everything. Move 12" and shoot with all guns unless you've got 2 main guns on the speeders. Though a pair or trio of baals plus 2-3 ravens with TLAC would put down pain quickly. brother varen
1drop, what you want to do is to devide your oppent's attention on what to attack. So i would keep your stormravens and other vehicles seperate. You don't want your vehicles in one section to be hammered. I would space them out. Maybe (depending on terrain placement) send 1 stormraven on each flank, Baals and bikes to the middle. That way you flank him on both sides and the Baals and bikes can spilt left and right down the middle. This way your oppent has to decide which to go after. Devide and conquer, lol.
