Hey again guys. Been chipping away at the Canoness between work (which has been pretty heavy this week). Here is the WIP -

I need afew opinions =) First is on freehand... never done any before. Do you think i should do a design along the Eviscerator? And second is the base. I want to add something cool to it, i just cant decide what that cool thing is =) Any ideas will be appreciated.

I think the model looks great as is, and with your painting skills, im sure you could manage some freehand if you wanted to.

It could look cool on the Eviscerator. If you don't like it, you can always paint back over it?

As for the base, some spent shell casings? Roll a tube of green stuff, cut it up, paint it brass. Bing-badda-boom...

She looks great! The gold makes the model come to life, so to speak. Really makes me wish I could paint as well! :)

A design on the evis could look good, but it depends entirely on the design itself. I think simple is best, otherwise the tend to look squashed with too much detail. As for the base, what about some flames/something on fire? That would fit sisters nicely!

Thanks guys, thinking and playing with ideas. I tried chopping up one of the immolator kit decorative panels, but there just isnt enough room on the base to make that work.

That is some very nice rich gold that you have going there...You mentioned thinning the Valejo gold, but with what and how much?

Mostly the mix i use for thinning and general painting is 50%water, 25% Winsor & Newton Flow Improver, 25% Liquitex Slow-Dri. You can go without the slow-dri tbh, it just adds to the working duration of the paint. I like using flow improver though, as i tend to move paint around. For the gold, hmm, hard to remember now, it was probably between 25%-33% paint to that mix. I use plain water for glazing (as you dont want it to pool too much if poss).

Warriorfish - Thankyou =) I took alot longer to paint her than i have on anything else.

I've started to suprise myself when I try new things, and dedicate a good amount of time on them. The gold idea came about when I was looking at the NMM article in the White Dwarf (I ordered that issue especially) and Razza mentioned glazing etc the gold, and also seen some other referenes to glazing, and so thought hmm, seems like a pretty important technique to master, and so tried it. I'm by no means an expert, there is still many many things to do with glazes i havent done. The yellow glazes are one of the key parts to the gold on the canoness though, so if anyone tries it, dont skip them, but dont overdo them either =)

Wow.

That gold looks pretty damn nice, next step will be non-metallic eavymetal style right? :cuss

I've been debating whether or not to improve the gold trim on my Night Lords for quite a while now... But I don't think I could ever achieve your result.

And your canoness looks pretty damn sweet as well. Keep up the good work!

I have been thinking about trying it, but one step at a time =p

The fact that you have been considering it just bumps you up like ten times in my book of people who impress me... Every time I see non-metallic gold broken down it just boggles me.

Good luck with that by the way.

So, i've finished the Canoness. Decided in the end not to add freehand yet. Not happy with afew things, the backpack pole/book mostly. Prehaps once i've finished some other elements of the army i'll come back to it...

Thanks for advice on the base. The bolter casings where made from paperclip, the groove cut by grinding my pliars around afew times.

Comments welcome =)

Definetly the best sisters i've ever seen!!!! Love the living saint.

My only negative would be the sister holding up the parchment that is lovely and blank... could really do with a bit of writing, even some squiggly black lines would, imo, make it much better!

Thanks for all the nice comments =)

awesome work! caught your canoness on cmon. more plz:)

Cmon scares me =p I'll start on next thing tomorrow, if i've decided what to paint by then =) And i'll also try get updated photo's of the 2 squads, light/weather allowing =)

So today, apparently, i was bored, and went mental on the side of one of my Rhino's. So yeah, it looks like its really been through the rimmer. My first tank weathering attempt. Used some Tamiya weathering master on the lower half. I may add more, plus some soot once i get the other set.

The Fleur on the side still isnt finished =)

Yeah, the problem we've got with this colour scheme is the big golden brick effect, and i was thinking of ways to break that up a bit. The obvious way is to change the scheme a little. The tank does need some more white, but i figured the other way to break it up was to do crazy weathering, and i think it will work out thankfully. I really wasnt sure when i first started doing it, but I guess its all about experimentation! I'm sure at some point it experimentation will come back and bite me in the arse, but until then, its all good heh.

I will add some white parts with black text on top in certain small area's, to bring in some more of the white from the sister robes onto the vehicles, and redo the weathing over those parts. Just want the weathering done first so i can better decide where and how much white will look best.

Cheers Natanael =)
