Joasht
I have a number of boxes coming in from my preorder, but as I "preordered" a little late, my LGS got the stuff in first. Giving in to the sheer temptation of getting an early look at the PAGKs, I bought a box, justifying to myself that I can "never have enough Space Marines", which after 15 years of collecting Space Marines (and about ~8 years of GKs I guess, since they came out in 3rd ed) and many, many, many Space Marines later, I still don't have enough Space Marines. Anyway that aside, I immediately took to looking through the sprues and the *surprisingly lengthy* instructions, and after putting a few together, some thoughts have been playing in my head. Note that this won't bother a great majority of people, but anyway: 1) The new PAGKs look different from the old ones. I guess everyone knew this, but I placed my new plastic ones next to my old metal ones and they don't look *too* great together. Granted from a distance you'd probably not notice the difference as much, but the new plastic ones are a little "broader", particularly at the head. Also they all have a sort of "tiny psychic hood" on their *somewhat pretty thick* torso. Granted the metal ones were a little "squished" at the head due to the casting process, but this means that for those of you who like your squads to look somewhat coherent and want to splash some of the new guys in with the old ones, they would look distinct to the trained eye. A pity in a sense but not at all surprising. 2) Arm selections are fairly restrictive. All their "two handed arms" are specifically designed for one another, *including the arms that hold the Incinerator/Psycannon*. This means no "cheapo magnet magic" with the two-handed weapon arms for the most part. The main exception is the Daemonhammer arm, which can actually be swapped for a sword with the same arms but everything else is pretty much set in stone from what I can see. I *could* clip off every arm and dry fit everything to see if its really like that, but I guess GW won't lie (would they?). On the plus side, from me looking at them, I believe the Warding Staff, Falchions and one-handed Swords and Halberds are still magnetizable, if you are inclined to do so. 3) Thankfully the backpacks are magnetizable as usual and I've already done so myself. The sheer joy of the torsos not being different between the Interceptors and the other variants (unlike Assault Marines that had those "straps" on the torsos) means that every single backpack of mine will be magnetized so I can do an Interceptor spam at will ^_^ 4) Some of you probably already know this, but theres only five helmeted heads in the box. I like the "fully helmeted" look for my GKs, which means unfortunately I'm not going to have any spare for my Venerable Dreadnoughts. Not a big issue, but I'm just saying if you want heads for your Ven Dread models, you are going to have to Ebay them if you give all five of your PAGKs helmets. Just those few notes on the kit for those who are still contemplating modeling/conversions, particularly magnetizing. Hope this helped in some way :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226266-so-i-got-the-new-power-armored-gks/ Share on other sites
biglou666
well, if its helmets you looking for, try the new termies, they have 10! thanks for the info on the PA marines though, its a bit of food for thought . Inquisitor Fox
Guess this means I can use my 20 or so old ones as Strike Squads, and just get new boxes for Interceptor Squads or Purifiers then :ermm: Save a bit of change and make it a little easier to pick them out on the tabletop... thanks for the info! Joasht
Guess this means I can use my 20 or so old ones as Strike Squads, and just get new boxes for Interceptor Squads or Purifiers then ^_^ Save a bit of change and make it a little easier to pick them out on the tabletop... thanks for the info! I'm using my old ones as my Purifiers, they are so conveniently equipped with Halberds ^_^ The only sad thing is that I'll have to "splash" in some of the new ones for the hammers and Psycannons as I have insufficient old Psycannon models :( Biglou: Yeah but I doubt the Terminator helmets fit into the Ven Dread. Theres virtually no leeway in there for the normal helmet, so given that the Terminator helmet is even bigger, T_T Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226266-so-i-got-the-new-power-armored-gks/#findComment-2709798 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
The old psycannon models are still available on the GW Website... granted they're spendy, but they're there ^_^ Myself, I'm going to eventually use new plastics for Interceptors and Purifiers, and everyone gets halberds ^_^ Save my Justicar's who'll have hammers. Just gotta convert the old ones now... Just gotta convert the old ones now... I'm actually doing the reverse. After finding out that the PAGK box only has 3 Halberds, it is not worth it unless you planned to buy in bulk. Those old metal PAGK's are still valuable. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226266-so-i-got-the-new-power-armored-gks/#findComment-2709861 Share on other sites

Chairman_woo
Nope, only three. I stand entirely corrected! Must have been thinking of the terminator box... Guess thats the price one pays for having so many other options. I look at the kit in awe and with great joy, being a hardcore Power Armor lover myself :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226266-so-i-got-the-new-power-armored-gks/#findComment-2710078 Share on other sites
Grond
I was able to fit a terminator head into my ven dread....it was a little tight, but itb looks pretty nice. I used one of the pali heads, so it kinda has the forgeworld thing going for it. greyen
One thing I have noticed as I use my PAGK box to assemble little men is some of the fine details are humorous. The Chest piece that uses a pad-lock as a belt buckle and such. Now that you can read it, you see that it is just random words jumbled together. Though I will say that I love it all the same! I hate the new "normal word" inscriptions as I loved the old almost runic styled wording, which looked better and ironically made more sense fluff-wise. Plus, I don't like having weird/corny words like "DOOM", "FATE", "EXTERMINATE" and "EXSECT" plastered all over my men. Marmande
Actually, in the 40k universe isn't low Gothic essentially German, while High Gothic was Latin? Essentially, the old models would have been inscribed in a language the Grey Knights could read off of their armor. Maybe they changed it to archaic language so they thought it would look cooler? The 40k equivalent of getting a katakana tatoo. :teehee: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226266-so-i-got-the-new-power-armored-gks/#findComment-2711214 Share on other sites
Grond
I was able to fit a terminator head into my ven dread....it was a little tight, but itb looks pretty nice. I used one of the pali heads, so it kinda has the forgeworld thing going for it. Got a pic? Unfortunately, my camera is broken right now. The termi head looks a little oversized while the chest piece is off, but once that is added, it looks much more in scale.
