Ashe Darke
Any one else having horrific luck with their perils rolls? I lost all 3 (2 in the first turn) of my Justicars and 2 other guys to perils in just one game. It was against Daemons so I was casting Warp Quake like mad. It kept everyone back so my Dreads just hammered everything to death (Soul Grinder, 3 Blood Crushers, Daemon Prince and a Bloodthirster just on their own) so I feel it was worth it but still 5 guys blew their own heads off. Is that bad luck or has anyone else been seeing perils more often what with the increase in tests being rolled? Justcar
I think that that's just bad luck! :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226328-perils-of-the-warp/#findComment-2710274 Share on other sites
Joasht
You were just unlucky, but this goes to show though; the chance of failure is actually quite high, and I think people take them for granted when theoryhammering (i.e. they assume as if those psychic powers will always succeed). Captain Idaho
Could be a real problen against Eldar though what with their Runes of Warding. Any roll of a 12 or above will cause a Perils of the Warp attack. Any roll of a 12 or above will cause a Perils of the Warp attack. My mate uses Eldrad a lot and I just don't really bother with tests unless I really need to. Average roll is 10.5 so you're probably gonna fail anyway... Captain Idaho
Definitely a problem for the Grey Knights then. I think they rely on their powers for a keener attacking edge what with their reduced numbers etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226328-perils-of-the-warp/#findComment-2710297 Share on other sites
boreas
Definitely a fluke... A justicar should miss a test only 17% of the time and die to peril 3% of the time (just on "12", right?). On 3 dice, it's a bit harder... Justcar
I don't see eldar as a huge problem. The easiest strategy for your opponent to utilize is to stick eldrad in a transport. Focus fire on it with massed psycannons and vindicare 4D6 rending armour pen shots. Then, fire some psycannon goodness on edrad. If you have a storm raven, it is especially wicked. Moving flat out you can fire a lascannon or multi-melta and then use the defensive psy-strike missiles to give eldrad 4 perils rolls plus 4 s4 hits. Not a guaranteed kill, but it will do major damage. Then you are free to cast all of the spells you want!! Liberame
Whats the percentage against Runes of Warding of any roll higher than 12 is perils and Shadows of the Warp of any doubles is a perils. boreas
For Runes of Warding, the odds of getting "12 or more" on 3 dices is about 37.5%. Not good! Especially since you've got about 37.5% chances of getting the power with the Justicar. With SitW, I think it's 42% chances of getting any double on 3 dices. Still 37.5% chances of getting the power... Phil Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226328-perils-of-the-warp/#findComment-2710352 Share on other sites

Ashe Darke
See this is why I take those 2 Hammers per unit, just in case my Justicar blows his head off. Sure it's 10pts more but I can get 2 Hammers, one of which is Master Crafted for around the same price as a single one in other Marine books. I just hope that my multiple Perils streak ends here. Maybe it was some sort of Karmic balance for playing against Daemons. Downside is his Ghosthelm, which negates Perils on a 3+, and technically, if his Ghosthelm fails, he can take the usual Invuln save against it. In my game, the S4 hits from the missiles themselves took off 2 wounds, and the forced Perils did nothing. Weedy Eldar trickery...
