Just to give you guys some on my background. I'm a BA player, this is the first and only codex I have started and am currently playing with. But I would like to Field a Unit of Grey Knights To work against Deamon and chaos spawn. I would like to take get an education from veterans of the Grey knights. your insight and experiences.

I have just purchased the GK codex and will be reading it over this week before I start buying my army to build.

Greetings brother, I'm a BA player too! :)

A few basics Ive picked up

1) Most of the upgrades are cheap but there are alot of them. Concequently its very very easy to make units and charachters prohibitively expensive.

2) You know how BA are basically always outnumbered? roughly double that feeling and you get what GK feel like most of the time, but this as with BA is a fact of life and is something you need to take into account i.e. your units need to pull alot more weight than their size alone might suggest and you cant really afford for many (if any) of your guys to be sitting around doing nothing very often.

3) Plasma = Dead GK's (especially if you are running Paladins or terminators)

4) Shrouding is awsome

5) Sanctuary is also awsome

6) Quicksilver is not as awsome as it at first seems (only really worth it on Paladins it seems)

7) Deamon armies are still not a pushover dispite all the anti deamon stuff. They still have numbers on their side and plenty of ways to mess with psykers

8) Alot of GK's strength (especially in CC) is psychic, if the enemy can close it down on you it can tip things against you quite quickly if you arnt carefull. Speaking of which....

9) Farseers with runes of warding need to die as fast as possible!

10) DOA bloodangels are pretty screwed vs GK with halberds

I'm a BA player too, frankly (although I haven't played the 5th ed GK codex yet) they are almost similar in concept but get things done differently - both want to be really close, but unlike the BA who have an overabundance of mobility options, the GKs are more or less "limited" to mundane transportation or Deepstriking without proper jump pack infantry (yes they have Interceptors, but they serve a different role IMO) or bikes.

I'd say there is a small risk that the GK would feel a little similar to the BA's, so make sure you are willing to accept that before proceeding given that this is your first "other army". There is a chance you'd get a better outlook on the game if you picked something radically different; for example I have the extremely soft Dark Eldar and totally shooty Tau as well. The only reason I'm still going with the GKs is that I've played them both since way back when, and am a hopeless Power Armor lover. I've tried other races, but at the end of the day I still find greatest joy in playing Space Marines. Not to say don't go with them, if you like the rules and models (especially the models) do go right ahaed

HAHAHAHA SPAWN!!

I wouldn't worry about them! Grey Knights are all carrying force weapons (cause instant death), so spawn will melt when in contact with knights.

When it comes to daemons, you want to maximize librarians and dreadknights. Dark Excommunication is a psychic power that they have which takes away enemy gifts of chaos. There is almost nothing that they can do if you pull it off! Also, the librarians' summoning power will help a lot! You can easily bait and switch your opponent on deployment!
