So I played some grey Knights this weekend and got my clock cleaned. Their Initiative 6 attacks were just too much for me. Also with all their tremendous CC they also have great shooting. Str 7 rending is suprisingly leathal and Str 8 auto cannons (psy bolts) and deadly as well. All and all I was impressed and disappointed. Impressed with their abilities. Very impressive watching them utterly crush me and depressing I couldn't manage a better showing. Then I began a day of ponderance. How do you defeat an army like that. An army of Space Marines with Initiative 6, str 5 CC, +3 Saves or better and all with force Weapons. Not to mention every troop unit has great tank hitting fire power. I'm ussually not one for capitalizing on an obvious advantage but I said screw it, here's my solution.

x1 EC with AAC

X1 Marshall w/ BP and PW

x3 10 man squad assualt terminators with TH and SS.

x2 5 man squad w/ las cannon mounted in a Razorback with EA, smoke, twin linked las cannon

x1 5 man squad w/ las cannon mounted in a Razorback with ea, smoke, twin linked hvy bolter

2000 pts

Decided to play my sons BA with this proxy and gave him with a pretty good advantage. Allowed him to field alot of shooting fire power. two vindis, two lrc, two dread with 2LC, storm raven with 2LC and 2LMM, furiouso dread with blood talons , 2 squads of 10 assualt marine w/o JP with PF and 2 MG is the LRC's, 6 assualt termis with 3 TH and SS and 3 LCs. one assualt squad with JP with a priest and Dante. About 2600+ to my 2000 pts. First game we tried pitched battle with kill points. he managed to take out one razor the marshall and a 5 man sqd. I killed everything except for two squads. The second game was pitched battle with 5 objectives. This time he manage to kill off an entire termi squad in addition to one razor, the Marshall and a 5 man squad with the difference of me holding two Objectives to his none and killing everything except one LRC and his Dante JP squad.. Termi's pushed him off of everything he tried to control.

Big thing I noticed was the terminators are able to spread out and cover so much of the table. You really can't run from them. It allowed me to control most of the table. BA's were mostly back peddling into corners with no where to go. Both games Date's JP squad were able to take out a Razor back and its squad but they were too far away to affect much else with my vehicles spread out. The 3+ invul save is rediculous. Sure vindi's are hard hitting when pie plates land on you but my SS shrug them off like they were nothing, rareley losing more then 1-2 per hit at best. TH SS termis kill pretty much everything they touch. Kinda like grey knights in CC againts troops. The razorbacks are almost always behind a squad of terminators so they are getting alot of cover saves greatly adding to their survivability.

I need to try this proxy against some grey knights now. The BA termis and furiouso dread with blood talons should little to no oposition to a ten man squad of TH and SS termis. They always came out on top with plenty of man power to spare. I wont give the same point spread to a GK player but I wanted to give plenty of advantages to the BA player to get a tougher game out it and see how it went. Will post when i play my first GK player with this list.

awesome, can't wait to hear how you do against the Grey Knights.

Yeah its definetly fun...how ever on a different thread someone made a comment of IG being able to clean your clock pretty easily if you don't deep strike on their front door step. I would have to agree...you would definetly wanna deep strike in the front door of the IG....but if you survive that round of shooting them IG are gonna be running for their lives off the table. Now a leaf blower list of IG could pose a severe challenge too depending on the game being played. Either way I had fun with it and thats why you play the game...to have fun.

One of the potential problems with spreading out a 10 man Terminator squad is that a clever opponent can pull them to one side of the board. Can achieve this by intentionally assaulting only one end of the squad. It doesn't matter if you wipe out that sacrificial squad. Their job was to dictate the movement of your deathstar... now they are out of position and more importantly clumped up. Keep that tactic in mind when you see someone moving a small, scarifical squad down one flank.

Also, pictures next time :P
