Well the minis are well painted so I guess you're serious about this.

I have to say though that I think the theme doesn't really fit to the warrior space knight archetype, you might get away with it for an Eldar harlequin war troupe, but for marines I say this is a definate no.

Totally subjective of course, but dance & marines are for me not a great fit together.

I actually really like this idea. In a way very victorian, especaily the guy with the full face mask made from the shoulder pad. Also like the very gosthly effect of the armour. I know its meant to be a swan colour, but thats my take on it.

Looking foward to seeing more.

BTW, you know you've posted this twice right? :)

Except for the dancers on the packs this would seem to me like a valid knightly order... after all there were the Knights of the Swan or whatever in the Lord of the Rings that didn't show up in the movies and Ludwig the Second of Germany was known as the Swan Prince.

Anyway as for a paint scheme I like it. It looks like a haunting contrast of black and white. Hope to see more :D

What strikes me most is that the composition of pyramid head here really does work!

Sure, proportions are stretched even further, but on the other hand, GK have shoe-box-sized double-barreld boltguns mounted on their wrists - with a giant magazine to make sure no daemon'll go unharmed.

This guy is really interesting; all the wingy stuff gives him an all-new look. Very well done!

Looking forward to see more.

However, the terminator with the wings just looks like a guy wearing a fairy costume. Sorry. :-(

Hey- cheers for the comments thus far. Probibly should of mentioned it before but these guys do have a background- the're fallen Blood Angels. They basicaly worship Slaanesh and are obssessed with ideals of perfection and beauty (hense the highly detailed armour on standard assault marines). Anyone who has seen the movie Black swan should get the whole 'fall' aspects of these guys as well as why they have the name 'Swan knights'

Also heres wip Storm Raven

See, I got all of that and then you painted stick-ballerinas on their jump packs.

I'd advise picking one theme, either ballet or swans and stick to it. The best parts of these models are the 'avian' elements so I think that's probably the direction you should take. You don't need to paint every part of the fluff onto your minis, that's what the fluff is for.

Also, Knights of the Swan? Worth investigating before you paint an entire army!

Cool- thanks for the info mate. Although as far as picking a theme goes the theme has already been chosen. The name Swan knights is purely a reffrence to Black swan. I thought calling them Black swans was too on the nose and also liked the way people hear the name and assume they are 'good guys' (like the imperium does) then you look alittle closer and realise how far they are falling.

I think that will be alittle more obvious when you see the libirian (basing it on sigvald)

Still if you think it's still not working- i still apreciate hearing how you think i can make it work.

Cheers

i think the shoulderpadface works actually, makes it look like one of those overdecorated helmets medieval knights would wear, although i'm not sold on the upsode down blood drop it, when some freehand would go nicely there

hope you don't mind me blatantly ripping off using that idea as inspiration, as it's a great idea

I'm with Octavulg, you can reference something without having to physically represent it on the minis.

I personally would take the bird features of the models and go to town on them, as you have been doing already.

The fall and references to Black Swan really need to go into the fluff, the character, beliefs and traits of your chapter.

Make them live and breathe the theme, but I think it doesn't physically belong on the models because it's a very effeminate theme and one that doesn't lend itself to marines, they have neither the poise nor grace, though I guess they would be agile enough to throw some ballet shapes! :D

Emperors Children?I'd say they have that effminate kind of edge to them, especially lucius (were talkin pre/heresey era...none of the post business)

okay, that goes a long way to sooth concerns that I and a couple of other people had.

hope to see more on the fluff

These guys are acutally really dope, but the stick ballerinas just ruin it completely. It's silly, and the freehanding really pulls it down.

Sorry, but I disagree. It's a very different take on heraldry and ornaments, but then again, Black Templars display christian symbols :-)

To my mind, these ballerinas are an expression of passion, speed and decadence, though scaled down to fit the miniature size.

Perhaps getting rid of the ballett association could be the key to regard it as some sort of psychological warfare or charms - just like cavemen painted stick people, too.

Hope I could help. :-)

Btw - usually I'd be the first to say "no" to such a seemingly whacky-theme army - but these guys have something VERY special to them.

Wonderfully done, especially the first mini.

As to the upside down Blood Angels' symbol, since they're fallen Blood Angels, can't it be seen as an appropriate way to mock a heritage they no longer honor? I'd think so.
