Swan Knights

These guys are acutally really dope, but the stick ballerinas just ruin it completely. It's silly, and the freehanding really pulls it down.

Sorry, but I disagree. It's a very different take on heraldry and ornaments, but then again, Black Templars display christian symbols :-)

Fair doos and it's not the ballerinas in themselves I have a problem with but the way they've been done. I agree that the flowing elegance of dance could be a good inspirational point for a Slaneeshi army, especially fallen Blood Angels, but the stick figures don't cut it with me. There must be a better, more serious way to get some dance-symbolism on them without having little stick figures in tutus jumping around.

Course that's me and you are totally free to ignore it! ;)

I'd recommend covering those dancers, they're a bit like prehistoric cave paintings in strange poses...

For the shoulder-face I'd either convert it a bit (using the wings part applied on an actual helmet) or you might consider using these helmets instead. Theme-wise they'd fit perfectly. It's indeed hard to accept a shoulder pad as it is as a head.

Well i do love the honour guard heads- thats why i did the sgt head the way i did as i felt it a quick and easy way to do it. Feed back seems good so far.

As far as the 'stick figures' go thats kinda my fault for not being great at free hand. I agree they don't look the best but i felt the images on the armour where important. I'm seeing these guys as being obsessed with dancers- a part of how they fell was they where kinda mesmorised by dancing daemonettes. Still not 100% sure which way i'm gonna go with it.

really cool idea on there; i love the shuolder pad helmet and the black.white colour scheme, though think i have to agree with the majority of people here in thinking that the stick figure ballerinas are a bit too much - think the chapter's name in and of itself is enough to convery the ballet imagery. personally, the first thing i thought of when seeing the thread title was swan lake, so i think the name itself and th hite wings on the models is enough to convey the theme.

also your scouts should have black armour

Only a small amount of progress but better than nothing.

I think the shoulderpad-helmet is excellent, very creative and gives him a really menacing look.

I would take a look at how you've painted the gems on it though - they look a little 'upside down' due to the shading. Try putting the light blue at the bottom, making them really dark at the top, and putting a single dot or line of pure white at the top left to really make them pop.

Here's some tutorials on the idea (not mine, other people's): http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/1041

I think if you put swirls around the stick-figure dancers, they will look better - more stylised rather than child-like.

Death Company? Simple. Black swans.

He does have point there. They should probably have some feathers on their shoulder pads or jump packs. Standard black power armor with those white feathers added shouldn't be that difficult with your current level of painting.

Hi guys- just a quick WIP shot of the death company. I've gone with bare heads as i think that sending troops out to die wearing protective headgear is a tad redundent. Also thinking may add 'black swan' style makeup

I really like the color scheme, I like the fluff behind them, and I thought the winged helm was a borderline stroke of genius! ...but I'm not entirely sold on the dancing stick figures. I think you're on the right track with the swirls though, they add the sense of artistic motion you're going for.

Fun stuff. :D

...I had never thought about this until just now, and, I gotta say, you are right

everytime I see a DC fielded wearing helmets from this point forth, nothing will stop me from blurting out "you are doing it wrong"
