number6
As I stated elsewhere, you are correct in that the new GKs play completely differently from how they used to. They are much closer to Basic Marines With Fancy Bling than they used to be, and that has massive implications for army list building and tabletop tactics. Like I said in that topic I linked to: we must unlearn what we have learned. :P That said, as different as things are, I very much like what we got. It still "feels" medieval, mysterious, and SuperKnight-like. It's just been flipped on its head. :) And in no way, shape, or form, is the army list overpowered. I predict, in fact, after looking over most of the army lists and predilections posted on this board, that people will be getting frustrated with how ineffective their armies are once their opponents get used to grappling with them and are more familiar with the silly tricks that the army is capable of pulling. My advice: basic 40K principles should still reign supreme. Build an army that has serious punch in all three phases of the game: Movement, Shooting, and Assault. Right now, just about everybody on this and other forums are dazzled by the expensive units and are thinking pretty much only of the Assault phase when building their armies. This will only take them as far as being capable of beating up on unprepared opponents. Experienced opponents will not find such armies difficult to defeat. Take units that give you speed and mobility. Take units in multiples for redundancy. Take units that are capable of dealing with infantry and monsters/vehicles alike. Take vehicles to protect your assets and provide you with free terrain control. None of these precepts is unique to the GKs. But this is the first time that GKs can actually take advantage of all these things and exploit them. Clearly, this is taking some getting used to. :D But don't worry: the codex is awesome and capable. There is no need to use or fear cookie-cutter army lists out of Codex: Grey Knights. It's solid, adaptable, and personalizable. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226692-we-rock/page/2/#findComment-2716313 Share on other sites
