Barakiel
Good morning ladies and gentleman, i need your opinions on naming Adeptus Custodes Characters. I plan to build a Custodes Army using the new Grey Knights Codex (yepp, i know that Custodes aren´t psykers) and since the model count is very low due to their elite status i wanted to give every single model a name (only ONE name at the beginning, since i know that they collect names for their deeds) ;) From the names of famous custodes like Aquillon, Mikaelor Cobernus, Constantin Valdor, Artulon etc., i am not sure what structure the writers follow, respectively what culture their names are based on. Searching through ancient names i think i may use either roman or greek names (problem with roman names is, they are dangerously close to the thrice-cursed Ultramarines and no one wants something like that :P ). What do you guys think? What is the cultural or whatever base for the names of Custodes characters in the books and stories? Are their any alternative (and/or appropriate) choices other then greek and romans? Jim Shady
Read 'Blood Games' by Dan Anbett in Tales of Heresy. If I remember right, he kind of explains how the Custodes get their names. Think it's am ixture of the places they've been and on what mission. 501st
Jim's right. Custodian Names come from their lives and experiences, First comes their Bloodline names (Example Amon Tauromachian) then comes place of his organic birth, then the house of his "Formative" study, then where he learnt weapons, then when he first entered combat and so on and so forth. Constantine Valdor has over 1932 words in it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226708-adeptus-custodes-names-question/#findComment-2716323 Share on other sites
SanguineSon
I'm guessing that you're not looking much beyond first names at this point but if you do you should follow the structure the other provided above. As far as their first names go, I'd recommend sticking with Greek and Roman names. Those are all ways a safe bet. I'm not sure if Custodes are drawn from worlds other than Terra or not. If so try and figure out the culture those worlds are based on and then you can use names from that culture. Otherwise Greek, Roman, and maybe Latin names will do the job well. Jim Shady
I'm not sure if Custodes are drawn from worlds other than Terra or not. I'd be interested to know if any of the writers will shed light on how the Custodes come to become, well, Custodes! Texpef
tbh i thought custodes never left terra... kind of implies they are "born" here and die here Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226708-adeptus-custodes-names-question/#findComment-2717029 Share on other sites
Iron_Adam
I would love to find out for sure whether or not the custodes are made or born, and whether or not their genes come from the emperor Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226708-adeptus-custodes-names-question/#findComment-2717038 Share on other sites
The Emperor's Champion
problem with roman names is, they are dangerously close to the thrice-cursed Ultramarines and no one wants something like that :( You mean Uriel Ventris? Don't let Ventris fool you. He's not an Ultramarine. The Ultramarines are made of all of the universe's win and awesome and, clearly, Ventris is made of dumb and fail. It appears that Custodes are basically super Marines or demi-Primarchs. They're made similarly to how the original high-grade Marines were created back before they had geneseed to mass produce the Marines with, except the Custodes are made with a refined and enhanced version of the process. Basically, each one is a hand-crafted warrior, similar to the engineering put into the Primarchs, but nowhere near as elaborate and unique. Aegnor
I like Ventris. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226708-adeptus-custodes-names-question/#findComment-2718178 Share on other sites
Barakiel
Thank you all for the input, i think the idea with greek and roman names is a good one to stay with. As a sidenote: my dislike for Ultramarines results from the fact that this *censored* Captain Sicarius (and his 2nd Company) seem to hold the whole Imperium together on his/their own. It just looks like the entire Ultramarine-Chapter consists of only one company and they seem to be literally everywhere... :cuss And i don´t like Uriel Ventris either... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226708-adeptus-custodes-names-question/#findComment-2720012 Share on other sites
