Not a fan of restrictions, not gonna be long until it's pirated and everyone has a version

Amen. I dislike this restricted access campaigns.

Thankfully, no one has to make a living from their writi--

Oh.

They are only selling 3000 copies. They will sell out the 3000, they will get paid. Anything else that happens beyond that limited 3000 worldwide run, they weren't getting paid anyway.

Aw, cool. That's alright, th--

Oh.

I understand you are an author, but do you mind explaining how artificially creating a supply/demand crunch doesn't foster what the Iron Adam pointed out? You can act as sarcastic as you like but it is a valid concern when releasing only 3000 copies of a what is a very popular series. Is it 3000 first run? Or is is 3000 limited edition, get it or don't ever get it?

I'm sure it'll happen, and the release type means it'll happen more often than normal. I think it's pretty obvious I was commenting on the ethics behind acquiring it by alternative means.

From what I gather from the email, the novella can be considered a 'collector's edition' that includes the story, and some extra fluff all wrapped up in a cool "faux salamander" cover for the die hard fans. I'm seriously considering it, as I like collector's stuff.

However, it also states that it "....features an exclusive story that will not be printed anywhere else for at least two years..."

So those that don't/can't buy this collectors edition, will most likely still be able to enjoy the story, but just later than the first 3,000. Possibly it'll be incorporated into one of the short story books of the series.

If I don't get one of the limited run, I'd be more than happy to wait a couple of years to get the story.

From what I've been told the won't be printed anywhere else for two years is standard for the whole range of BL limited stuff and there is no guarantees that it will be in print again. If you want to read it best order one now.

Fortunately the legend that is Big Will has stepped in and ordered me a copy.

It has just sold out.

I ordered my copy this morning, the non-standard delivery was a pain but worth it still

Really? Already? It wouldn't let me pay for it on the work computer so I was hoping to order one when I get home. Oh well, guess I've been saved from spending 40 quid on a dinky little book...

Don't worry its not quite sold out yet:

Promethean Sun, the first limited edition Horus Heresy novella, went on sale this morning. The response has been amazing, with over a thousand of the 3,000 copies selling in the first hour alone.

Due to the massive demand for this title, we have temporarily removed it from sale to ensure that we have enough stock to satisfy all existing orders. We will repost any remaining stock at 12 noon (GMT) on Monday 18 April.

Hopefully there will be some left.

The thing I remember about the Space Hulklimited run is how somehow certain ebay sellers seemed to have the models on there at an extortionate mark-up straight after the sets sold out. Limited runs, especially of literature help no one. The fan suffers from losing out to the profiteers, the producer misses out on those extra sales that could have been generated, and doesn't profit from the inevitable piracy. The only ones who gain are the pirates and middle men. Please GW, if you're listening (hey, there's a first time for everything) no more limited edition runs.

Just ordered mine, must admit I'm not to happy with the £10 postage mind you...

I can only assume this extra charge will go towards the postman turning up in a rhino rather than on his bike. No? Ok then...

If someone could arrange delivery via the THQ rhino then I would pay a lot of money.

Whats the point in making Limited Edition novels.. Black Library have even acknowledged that there is massive demand for the novella, why not print more? It doesnt make any sense from any point of view. The book costs £30, so even if they make more and still keep it at the same price i doubt it would stop people from buying it. They could even still market it as Limited Edition, just say that they are only printing 100,000 copies or however much these books usually sell.
Fortunately the legend that is Big Will has stepped in and ordered me a copy.

Ah Shucks Doghouse ;)

I owe him an email. He's totally a legend; I have an Argel Tal and a Talos on my desk from him.

Yeah you do A.,check your yahoo I sent your a mail this week I have some Abaddon and Black Legion Termies with your name on it.

I went on a selling spree this week to pay for my new Cintiq 12wx

I am very impressed with the nightlords group shot and plan to wow you with some of my own....(Big Will)

I can not stand limited edition runs for a novel. If you want a limited collector edition, that's fine. But don't restrict the number of copies being made. All that does is deny fans the chance to buy the book directly from Black Library and instead completely empowers Ebay sellers and pirated copies the chance to charge whatever they want for it.

I could not order the copy in time and now I have to try and get one on Monday. What genius thought this up at Black Library? Why deny yourself the chance to make more money off of the backs of Warhammer fans?

I have to say I find this enormously dissapointing....

£30?!?!?!?....... its a rip off plain and simple. For £30 I would be expecting a quality AND a quantity of work above and beyond that what is the norm.

Just slapping a 'Limited Edition' tag on it doesnt cut it and is taking the pizz.

This I fear could be a worrying trend and started when BL started charging £10 for the ridiculously short audiobooks.

I disagree about the audio-books. Some are worth every penny to the fans and then some.

I've bought the audios for Throne of Lies and Horus Rising and have been very happy with them (one being an audio drama, the other simply a reading). It is simply a different format and should be treated as such.

That being said, I also pre-ordered Savage Weapons's audio, read by Gareth Armstrong. I buy the stories I enjoy, and am probably no different than many people. They are a God-send for painting and not needing any visual distractions.

Yeah, the short audios are really good (not crazy about the first but all thereafter). I've listened to most of them at least twice and some(thunder from fenris/raven's flight, probably 6-7).

Aside from being tagged "limited" and small in volume, It hought there was additional artwork and a special "scaley" cover? If I were a sallie fan, It'd probably be a must buy.
