Question: Grand Strategy + Combat Squads

Alrighty, let's say I have a Grand Master and a unit of 10 Paladins-- would I be able to give that unit of Pally's a bonus from TGS, then split it into Combat Squads such that both new squads benefit from the ability?

That's very interesting. Points permitting, that's potentially 18 Scoring Units for a Grey Knights army list (6 troops, 3 other, doubled by combat squads).

Yeah it can be good! but keep in mind that every combat squad is its own kill point to the enemy. So it really depends on the mission, if the above proposition is wanted or not.

Actually, with 2 Grand Masters each rolling a 3, you can get 24 scoring units if you have 12 full 10 man squads to combat squad. Of course, that would be pretty expensive in points. ;)

Hmm, counter-attack on a combat squad'ed 10man terminator squad. Half go in storm raven and the other half foot it over the table with the psycannons. I like this alot ;)

I don't think so.

 

You only get the option to Combat Squad when you deploy the unit. So no splitting prior to deployment and keeping half in reserve.

I suppose technically it needs to be answered in a FAQ for this codex, but based on the Space Marine FAQ, the unit arrives as one, then you may combat squad them after arrival.
