Zeller
So I've taken a plunge into starting WH or atleast giving them a test drive as I'm borrowing WH minis from a friend. If I like them I can buy them. Anyway, the entry for the Lord's retinue has me interested. The Lord can take a hood with unlimited range which is the obvious upgrade but what about taking two penitents to give the squad a 2+ against psychic powers? Does anyone use this ability? Is it necessary with the hood? I figured it would be decent should I opt to make the squad an agressive attention getter. Of course this would require making the enemy target the squad with their psychic abilities. Maybe it's just a longshot. Brother Captain Ed
Exactly. It's only good if they target you and you are specifically barred from doing both. The hood is plenty adequate. The inquisitorial retinue advised for me was: Lord with Bolter, Hood Acolyte with Carapace, Bolter 2x Chirurgeons 3x Warrior with Heavy Bolters Cheap, hard to kill, 9 str 5 shots a turn. Zeller
Alright, followup question. Should the unit be kept back in a position fitting of a devestator squad or should they be further up in a rhino pouring HB's into the enemy while nullifying psychic attacks? Inquisitor Fox
The WH Codex hood is the entire tabletop.. being up front is not required  That being said, I ran a close combat retinue and did just fine with it. Ultimately it's up to whichever one you want. melvinmcsnatch
I think for the purposes of keeping a Hood on the table, the 3 HB retinue works well as Brother Ed suggests. The Inquisitor Lord stays 36" away from the action (like a Devastator squad). I assume you're running Exorcists, so they can hang out together. In my experience with Retributors, the heavy bolters can add to the fight without becoming a priority. I would also suggest spending a tiny bit of points on Auspex. It's cheap and comes in handy. I would even dare to say he doesn't need a transport, although if you have a Chimera you could think about taking that to use as a mobile heavy weapon platform/bunker.
