Notanoob
So while I was looking through all of the Wargear for the "You are the lead designer" thread, and trying to make sure everything was properly pointed and useful, I noticed something. Every unit that can have Empyrean Brain Mines has Psych-out grenades, which both affect psychers in the assault phase (although only on the charge for the P-O nades), work really well in tandem. Every psycher is reduced to I1 by the P-O nades, and then must take an Initiative test or be unable to attack. So together, I figure one could completely immobilize Broodlords and Hive Tyrants, Mephiston, other GKs, and many other less combat ready psychers. Is this amazing or what? As a Tyranid player myself, this really jumped out at me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/226879-something-i-havent-seen-mentioned/ Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
very nasty although you would either have to assault or be in cover against a non assault grenade unit. Still, when these work they are silly powerful. Techmarine Harkus
My first thought was slap it on a Carnifex and laugh at it. Most enemies are probably going to doge (especially the kind of things you want to be able to paralyse like characters with high I). Against psychers and Tyranids especially, they definitley look attractive. Although at first thoughts, you may think 'Well, if they are I1 surely I can stab them and Force Weapon Gib it before it gets to attack?.' But I played a game with my Nids against my friends GK's on Thursday, and in all actuality, Shadow in the Warp makes bursting monsters much, much harder. As I said in the Assassin thread, taking a Ld test on Ld 10 with 2D6 is about a 90% chance to suceed. Take that down to 3D6, and suddenly you've only got a 50% chance. Since you might have to forgo Hammer Hand to use your force weapons (probably a mistake to be honest) you will be needing 6s to wound, and it's perfectly possible you do nothing, or then only wound it. It's retaliation looks quite likely, and an I1 Hive Tyrant or Carnifex is still pretty dangerous. Of course the Daemon hammer almost all units should have somewhere gives you good odds on a wound, it will be striking at I1 too, giving the monster at least one round of attacks. Brain Mines = dead monster and 0 casualties or a chance to give it ago next turn with 0 casualties. Unless they luck out and roll a 1. The synergy between psychout grenades and Brain Mines is pretty awesome, and actually, I cant think of many monsterous creatures that arnt Psychers or Daemons (or I1 already) apart from a Wraithlord, a Trygon and a Carnifex. And boo hoo, the carnifex is I2 so looking good for a brain mine to the face. If the Trygon is a Trygon Prime, then you're laughing of course, because its a psycher. ++Edit++ forgot to close brackets. Sorry to anyone who I left with a sense of tension and unfinished business.
