Iron_Adam
My inspiration for this tutorial comes from a picture in Collected Visions, page261, of Ingenuus Command Squad. In this picture an Ultramarine is holding a power sword that is is active in a way that is relatively unique to other depictions of the power weapons. Since I won't take a picture of the art in the book, I can only describe this sword as appearing to have a blue-ish forcefield close to the metal; the effect makes more sense in my mind because I always pictured the powerswords as being simple swords with energy harnessed on its perimeter that is raised by deathly energy that fry's bio matter on contact. I never saw much in the lightning department until I read Sould Hunter, so this is a combination of the 2. 1) First off, Undercoat the blade or hammer or fist with black spray, this is because there are a lot of layers in this and it could get a bit chunky looking if your not careful. 2) Next, paint in a random pattern of swirls and lines boltgun metal, mithril silver, and chainmail. try to keep the metals somewhat distinct from each other so the effect reminds you of corrugated tin when you look at it up close http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Vallieres/power%20weapons/IMG_0207.jpg 3) This is where the effect becomes a bit fun, the GW washes leave you with a lot of options if you want to make different colour power weapons. For the purposes of this tutorial, I will be using Asureman Blue, but baal red + asureman blue make a very sinister purple for chaos force weapons. Add generous amounts of the wash so that you can definitly tell its there, or you can do many layers if you want. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Vallieres/power%20weapons/IMG_0221.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Vallieres/power%20weapons/IMG_0217.jpg 4) Now comes the Lightning part, which I really like. I may not be the best at doing the lightning, but I'm sure you can imagine how it would look if a pro did it. I used Regal Blue + Ice Blue, and Skull White. I'm not good at blending, and I didnt mix the paints to do in between stages, so use your imagination. I also invite anyone to show me up and do it proper. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Vallieres/power%20weapons/IMG_0223.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/Vallieres/power%20weapons/IMG_0228.jpg I find this effect to be less cartoony and believable than regular power weapons, because I dont know about you, but I never pictured the blades turning completely blue, but rather still be metalic. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
I like it! You may want to put the pictures on the tutorial itself, though.
