My Hobby Crusade

Recommended Posts

Right, I failed the LPC. Due largely in part to laziness and a shed load of school work ver the past few weeks. So in penance (along with the article I owe the librarium), I am embarking on my own little hobby crusade. The purpose of this crusade is just to get as much done as I can. So anything with power armour of some variety or is related to power armour that is done during this crusade shall be stuffed in here.

First up, an Astral Claws tactical squad.

I really like the colour scheme of the claws in IA 9 so when I found enough second hand and reclaimable minis lying around to make a new army, I settled on them. So far we have one tactical squad in progress with another stripping and numerous other units and vehicles in various states of waiting for stripping/unassembled/still need to get.

Normal Marines

I still have to highlight up the blue and then finish off details such as helmet lenses etc.

This is just the start of my hopefully grand hobby crusade. I have many projects waiting. Grey Knights, Astral Claws, Space Wolves and Blood Angel planetstrike to name but a few.

Other then the focus being wonky I like the color scheme. Even though it is Astral Claws it seems so close to the Silver Skulls. I myself failed my LPC and may start over and go with a similar crusade, stripping the old Salamander scheme (maybe going the route of Silver Skulls) and finish my loyalist army. Good luck to you brother.

I'm doing the best I can with my faithful little camara.

Anyway, thats the Tactical squad done as far as painting is concerned. I still have to do thier bases and free hand the chapter symbol (Which I will do once I have had plenty of practise at it). Here is a pic of the finished sergeant. I'd show the whole squad but the sergeant looks more intresting, plus it is getting late here and even uploading one photo to my B&C gallery is too painful

So next up will be my Grey Knight strike squad, followed closely by a Grey Knights dread and a Blood angels librarian dread once the parts for them arrive.

Be seeing ya internet.

I know these guys are Astral Claws, but the black shoulder pads with gold trim against the silver armour looked fantastic.

The sergeant looks great though, I look forward to seeing more.

Why thank you. Grey Knights may make it up tonight once I've base coated the red and drowned them in badab black. They may also be accompanied by the dreads if thier parts show up.

UPDATE: The parts for the dreads literally just fell through the letter box.

Another wee update.

My local gaming club have started a competition. We have to paint a starter box army for any system. So for example, the skaven from island of blood, a battalion. So I have grabbed at the chance to add to the Astral claws. I'll be painting up the Assault on Black Reach marines for the comp. So far they are all primed and sprayed chainmail. I will have pics up during the week when they are starting to look less monotone.

Right, I was going to post a large update today, but the BaC photo uploader is quite frankly, rubbish. Everytime I try a bulk upload, it decides I'm an idiot and fails. Please can somebody help me get these photos up?

Update: Ignore the above. My problems have been solved, the hard way.

Anyway. I decided I wanted to see how the army was taking shape so far.

So here we have them so far. There are still some more models to be added. There are three Rhinos on the way and a model to represent Armanneus Valthex, as well as a third tactical squad. I also want to make a librarian and there will be additions to bring the army up to 2000pts. Just now I can make a 1000pts list and once I have Valthex the third tactical squad and the Rhinos up and running I can field 1500pts.

Here are some shots of the Captain. Just the Black Reach one, nothing special. The only reason I'm painting him is for the painting competition I mentioned earlier. But he has so far preformed well on the battlefield leading his sternguard squad. I'm having trouble deciding on how to do the ropes. I'm thinking maybe green like the helmet lenses. I'll gladly listen to any ideas you guys may have.

This is the second tactical squad of the army. like the captain they are the bog standard black reach guys. They have recovered well from thier previous paint caked exsistances. Even though they are quite basic in regards to poses, I do really like the black reach models.

Yet another black reach model. This is the first of the two dreads. Both are black reach but the second has a wee conversion.

This is the first of the terminators which has been highlighted. Although it is hard to tell from the picture as it is a little dull.

Thought I'd post a couple of pictures of the previously finished tactical squad. They aren't fully done of course. I still need to do chaoter emblems and the bases. I can't decide on tyrant's claw or Astral Claw emblem for this squad. Any input would be appreciated.

And finally, the unpainted. Not really got much to say on these guys until they are painted.

That is yer lot for now. Don't expect an update for a while. The exam period is looming and I will take great strength to wether its storms. Until next time.

Those are looking pretty sweet dude, badab war stuff is taking over the B&C! How are you thinking of basing them, and will there be a tyrants legion aspect to the army, or are you going for straight Astral Claws?

I'm thinking of doing them with martian style bases to be diffrent from what I've done before. For the moment they will be straight Astral claws, but in the future once I have a job and I'm not saving for a school exchange to Ohio I will build up a tyrant's legion contingent.

Last week I won a prize draw on bitzbox for a free battleforce of my choice. I opted for a blood angels one since it had all the stuff I needed and the cool bitz from the death company sprues. So anyway, my first product of this new bitz pile is a new librarian fpr the Astral Claws.

I wanted to make a really arrogant and prideful looking Librarian. One who was probably trained as Huron quickly built up the claws numbers so he is untempered by age and experiance. The best way I think to represent that is a big two handed weapon and a screaming head. the charging pose also helps I feel.

Thanks for your comment. I've added a nice subtle hood made from semi cured green stuff.

But anyway, on with the show. Today I present you fine peaple with a change from the Astral Claws: A Grey Knights dreadnought, a Blood Angel Librarian Dread and three Sanguinary Priests in Terminator armour.

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads...975_1501728.jpg

The priests and libby dread are destined for my planet strike army which is mostly made from the Space hulk models with magnetic bases.

I'm quite proud of the Terminator sized Nartheciums I made for the priests. They are just made from chain fists with a melta bomb, some green stuff and a piece of brass rod as a needle. ( sorry for the blurry pic but you get the idea.)

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads...975_2871337.jpg

Since he will be involved in planetstrikes I wanted a heavier look with a tad more armour for the libby dread. To that end he has some parts from the ironclad with furioso bits for blood angel iconography. The force weapon is the Forge worl grey knight dread combat weapon.

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads...5975_752186.jpg

And finally the Grey Knight dread. He's a psyrifleman (sorry but four strength 8 twin linked shots was too good to turn down). It is my opinion that the grey knights would make even boring run of the mill equipment look pretty. I gave him some hull panels and greaves from a venerable dread to spruce him up a bit.

Thats yer lot today folks.
