DeepDarkSecret
So I have a short school week this week and decided I want to get as much of my Space Wolf army done as I can. Logan I am currently working on. Whole army is primed and ready to go I just have to stay motivated. http://i53.tinypic.com/98szth.jpg http://i54.tinypic.com/71nt6t.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/2q24ig7.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227087-ddss-space-wolf-painting-blog/ Share on other sites

Wulfebane
Excellent Axe Morkai convert and detailed bases. I also think you make use of the purity seals very well. DeepDarkSecret
Thanks I appreciate that, I know it's not a two headed wolf head on the axe but my original idea was to use two of this axe to make a double headed axe, well I lost one of the axes some how so I had to come up with something for the other head of the axe. I know it may seem to some like I used too many Purity seals but while I was modeling him I was looking at my large cashe of purity seals and it made me think about how honored and blessed Logan would be so I figured I'd incorporate as many as I could without it looking ridiculous lol. DeepDarkSecret
Quick update... Not 100% happy with the axe but I'm too lazy to try and redo it... Was my first attempt at this technique and it turned out about how I wanted it... The wolf head should be further toward the middle of the axe... Ah well. http://i52.tinypic.com/9tpo3d.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227087-ddss-space-wolf-painting-blog/#findComment-2721099 Share on other sites
DeepDarkSecret
Looking at it enlarged. I will end up redoing it but I'm going to finish painting him first. Wulfebane
Not to detract from the work so far, but I hope you do something with those runes on the blade to make them pop a bit more. Also, with as red as you're making the model, having the axe such a vibrant blue in contrast might make for too jarring a transition.. (again, as it is now). To tie the two in, you might consider a very thin purple wash at the darkest bluish-black areas of the blade to help make the transition smoother. Otherwise, great airbrushing skill and keep up the good work! DeepDarkSecret
I'll see what I can do about the runes though they are a real pain in the ass to pick out without accidentally messing up the very clean areas around it. Now for the transition of blue to red I want a very stark transition it's a powerweapon after all. When you hold up a flash light in real life it's going to stand out. That's what I want the power weapon to do is stand out like it's not even a part of him like it's a weapon from another world. That's what I want the power weapon to do is stand out like it's not even a part of him like it's a weapon from another world. Fair enough! As for picking out the runes, if you use an ink/wash or a watered down color, you can dab the center of the rune with a detail brush and the water/ink should carry the excess through the grooves of the rune (if you've got enough liquid in the brush's reservoir), where you won't have to literally painstakingly paint the runes entirely. DeepDarkSecret
Not happy with the Axe... But my second attempt at simply painting the wolf head on didn't turn out well at all so i went this route. It works, I'm done messing with it and it's how it's gonna stay lol... http://i51.tinypic.com/sn11lz.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/29vj8yd.jpg http://i53.tinypic.com/2zhp8wg.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227087-ddss-space-wolf-painting-blog/#findComment-2723657 Share on other sites
commander alexander
I think the ax looks wonderful! But I do think the cloak could use more shading. DeepDarkSecret
Because of the pictures I do not disagree with you on the cloak but in person the shadows are actually pretty deep. I really need to invest in a little photo booth so I can get rid of all the glares and what not from my lamps. DeepDarkSecret
Vallejo Model colors Dark Sea Grey for the base color, Dark Sea Grey mix 50/50 with black for the shadows, and Light Grey for the Highlights. Grimfoe
Really nice work. I'm a big fan of your basing style. Looks great. I also like the color scheme. The red is a little jarring for my taste, but I bet it looks fantastic on the table top. Where did you get the head for your wulfen model?
