Scythian Venom Talon query

Been memorising the grey knight book over the last few days, (Don't ask me why i do this i have an urge to learn it cover to cover fluff and all) and i noticed that an inquisitor can take a Scythian Venom Talon and a power weapon.

For those that don't know 'Scythian Venom talons are poisoned close combat weapons, and have the poisoned (2+) special rule, as described in the assault phase chapter of the warhammer 40,000 rulebook'

Now a power weapon causes 'models wounded in close combat by the attacks of a model armed with a power weapon are not allowed armour saves'

Surely this means if you equip a inquisitor with a Scythian Venom Talon and power weapon in the other hand you will always wound on a 2+ with no armour saves allowed?

This would be extrememly potent as this costs in total only 50 points and gives out 5 attacks on the charge re-rolling to wound anything toughness 3.

Thoughts?

Scythian Venom Talons is a special close combat weapons. A Power Weapon is a special close combat weapon. If you have 2 special close combat weapons, you must choose one weapon to attack with, the other is ignored. BRB p 42 Two different special weapons

When it is their turn to attack, these models must choose which weapon to use that turn
awww ;) Would this mean if i had an ordo malleus inquisitor with 2 deamon weapons that i only benefit from one weapons abilitys each turn? This could mean if i get rage on one wepaon i could chose to only use the other weapon therefore not forced to make a rage move? Any thoughts on this as 2 deamon blades was the other option i was considering.

I hadn't considered taking 2 Dameon Weapons!

I tihnk it would depend on therules gainined. If one had Power Wepaon status and the other Vampyre, then you would have to choose which to use.

But two Familiars sohuld stack, as should things like EW, FC and Rage, etc.

Two daemon weapons is doable, but a bit complicated. First, you would roll separately for what abilities each had. Then, whenever you are making attacks, you would have to declare which you were using. You can only attack with 1 special CCW at once. Just like if you have a power weapon and power fist, you have to say which you're using. However, not all of their effects are relevant to attacking. For example, if you had one granting you rage, that is a special rule that is given to your character. you'd have that all the time whether you chose to make your attacks with that weapon or not. Take note of which abilities are Dependant on wounds caused by that daemonblade, and which are not.

About half the results are buffs to the character that are not dependent on actually using the weapon. Taking it and another CC weapon, especially one that doesn't benefit from extra attacks anyway, is a nice option.

Well daemon weapons are two handed so that wouldn't work anyway. it is a shame about not being able to use a power weapon as well as the cythian venom talon though.

Two handed doesn't have any affect on it. All that means is that you don't get +1 attack for 2 CC weapons.
