Dark Angels where my first army for 40k but I haven't really touched them in years, but with the new FAQ and me now looking for a reletivly small and compact army for transporting to and from uni I couldn't really resist getting stuck into some termies ^^

That being said I really really hate painting large quantities of bone so taking some inspiration from the Diciples of Caliban successor chaptor I came up with a snazzy Green/Grey scheme that seems to fit pretty well :)

just the first three dudes done for now, 12 more to go before i need to dish the dosh again ^^

Would have the bases done but I'll be geting some lovely ones from Microartstudios so base grey will have to do for now ^^

I like the color scheme, and I wish I could paint two colored uniforms so neatly. I agree with Tanhausen about the shine, but that might be just the camera or lighting.

As for a chapter name, no ideas yet? Maybe you could incorporate our homeworld Caliban into the title?

Its acctually both the camera and the lighting, I had to use my day glow lamp to get enough light and the only camera i have atm is the one on my phone. But each one of those bad boys has been black inked to the eye and back top make sure they are suitibly dark ;)

I haven't really thought about chapter names or history yet but its definately something i'll be doing, my gaming group is very into having big backstories and home writen fluff for our armies and its leaders ^^

I think you have great models – I like the colour scheme you've devised. Grey and green wouldn't be my fist choice but you've managed to pull it off well. The better bases would set them up a few quality notches again. A really nice army in the making I think.

Could you explain with some details how you did the Thunder hammer? It looks simple yet extremely neat. (especially the last pic)

Those metallic look so good!

Also I don't know if the bases are finished or not (a concrete surface? ), but on those pictures, the boots and the base color is a little bit too much in the same tone? (It might be the camera though )

Very nice job, all that highlight job must be something to accomplish, but you can allways tell you" I only have like 25 guys to paint". Viva los termies.

The thunder hammers have three basic colours to them, Silver for the main body, Gold for the flashy bits/power cables and red for the handle.

I start off by painting anything thats going to be metallic with Beaten copper, this is a great base coat for gold if you want to keep things dark and silver runs over it really well too.

With the base coat done i paint everything thats going to be silver with boltgun metal, so the hilt of the hammer, the head and half the shaft plus the rings around the power cables.

Then i just line highlight all the silver edges with mithril silver making sure to keep the line highlights quite narrow. this is the bit that takes a bit of patience ^^

for the gold i go from the beaten copper to a heavy drybrush of brazen brass and then a heavy drybrush of burnished gold, i would go from shinning golf to a line highlight of burnished but i dont have any shinning atm ^^

For the red hilt i do a solid base coat of mechrite red, then paint the raised diamond parts with blood red and then higlight to the top of each diamond with blazing orange.

once all thats done the whole arm gets a generous supply of badab black wash and thats it in a nutshell ^^

The bases still arnt done yet, im going to get some nice resin ones of microartstudios as the model count is low enough to splash a little on stuff like that ^^

Thx for the tips, very appreciated.

Here is a post on dakka dakka with a list of resin bases sellers. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Resin_Bases

Most of them have like 5 different bases for each style so you can mix and match if you want ( but shipping then costs nearly as much as the bases)

I tough I'd just let it there for you or anyone. ( I got mine from evilmushroom and was very happy with the quality and the aspect )

I'm looking forward to see your finished "deathwing". (Is the first company of a successor still called the deathwing?)

Its been slow progress but hopefully will be picking up a bit more pace ^^

Word, brother. I found out that with my crappy skills, it is really hard to make bone white look good. Should have also tried a Successor Chapter scheme...
