Why are Space Wolves so popular?

@Rayray, what do I consider earning? well.. let me ask you this, how does one earn respect in life? IMHO we wolves here at the Fang are very social and have good comradery compared to other Astartes chapters. It's about making the effort, and giving your time with your wolf brothers here at the Fang, that make your stay here worth while! as your pack brothers get to know you better through time, we get a better idea of you as a whole. Only then can you truly earn your worth and respect as a valued member of the Fang. Its just basic logic and common sense! We wolves are a fun bunch, a silly bunch, and at times a rowdy bunch! we don't like to label ourselves like other chapters. We don't just act, we just "do"
We wolves are very independent and proud, but most of all we are passionate about our army. But sometimes that passion gets us into trouble amongst other wolf brothers here LOL. a reason why we have some of the best (wolf priest) mods to watch over us.
We do love a good brawl don't we? Well, its still only in words....

even with words we can little brother, because "words will always retain their power"

SW never had a bad moment to be played in the history of w40k . they were never forced to play "that one working list only".

No one else is either. The idea that there is only one way to succeed is a logical fallacy.

Some armies do have a very limited number of units that are remotely component at filling their intended role.

Tau come to mind. Most of their units are crap and the good ones they have aren't amazing.

They don't even have a solid troops choice.

....but hey. Railguns!

You apparently dont know any good tau players.

Fire warriors give impressive anti-infanty fire if used properly. I bet the hole theirs up in devilfish the whole game.

Suits can do anything... but you have to build them right.

Broadsides have the best anti-tank in the game. Stealthsuits are almost as annoying as wolf scouts....

The Tau list is solid, if a little dated.

Aye. Dont diss Tau or other old dexs. Necrons are still -_- when used right, and my Tau list ripped open a IG army like paper.

SW to me are my Roleplay/fun force. Not competitive in any way, but one of my favourites to make, paint, write about... My 13th co... I love em.

Long time no post but: Cause we are just that awesome!

But I do have to say that they just have store to them. I know other armies have fluff but I feel that every time some one talks about space wolves it has to be as an Epic. OK not every time but they are just cool.

AHh, now I kind of wish there were more people who play around me.... Maybe they I would have more energy to paint my wolves and finish my conversions.

Willy, have you finally admitted your a Wolf after all? i knew when i say the bitz your templars were made of it was only a matter of time...i mean, who wants to be the second best?

WLK

I never said I like the Wolves the best :P I just said these are some reasons why dudes liked them the best ;)

with a textbook rules lawyering like that you must be a Son of Guilliman!

keep fighting it then, it'll make the fall just that much further.

WLK

It should note, he probly wont go SWs. Most of my best friends in the hobby, over the years, have played black templars or undivided chaos.

thats fine, if everybody was the best then would would we compare ourselves to?

its actually quite nice he's fine being the diet coke of awesome.

Kier bear, if you are so longing for me to play as Wolves, all you have to do is send me $1000 and I'll start up a Wolf force. ^_^ Engir Krakendoom is the one I like the most, and I'll ask Darkseer if he'll have me in his long house, over on Space Wolves Grey. I'll even name a character of your choice as Kier bear.

Now I know me being mercenary will probably grate on your Wolfy sense of honour, but you can't say I never extended my hand to bridge the gap :D

You could even do some fund raising if you really wanted to. "Help give the Canis Helix to Marshal Wilhelm fund"

*laughs and hops on the back of a nearby Blood Claw*

To the caber tossing arena, trusty steed *spurs Blood Claw* Heeyah! Let's see what those Storm Wardens have brought to the festival.

Hi ho, n00b claw, away!

we should have like a secret hand shake LOL

who says we haven't pup  heck even all of the greybeards have their recieved their own "rang in the fang" to be used in all the fan based fiction that got written by firenze etc ;) . or the invention of the exterminatussock. it's things like these that make the fang really alive and breathing. this, and our ever beloved mods who in most occasions really give us quite some slack when starting and discussing topics

Whats the yearspan to rank in time? 10yrs-Long Fang, 5 years- grey hunter, Blood claw for any prior?

Its merit, not age. Come to the caber tossing arena. I teach you about being a Space Wolf. *laughs at the delicious and somewhat cheeky irony of his joke*

Yes, our TROOPS are full of boo! Even those wimpy Tactical Marines bully our poor Warriors. You really need to play Tau the way Ultramarines need to be used ~ as a whole. They don't even have anything that is horrific like Hammernators, but need to interplay with one another for success. No point and click for the Tau.

My lists are usually:

Fire Knives. Broadsides. Maybe a Railhead. 6 Warriors. Path finders + Fish [which the Warriors hide in] *yes Grey Mage, I know you are cringing :P * Kroot and Piranhas.

That is about all that works, imo. Things are expensive even on the good units, whilst Stealth suits, Vespid, Warriors and Fish all need a points drop to get game time. Whilst my Templars might take an enemy home Objective, all my Tau can do is contest it. I think that speaks volumes about C:TE

everytime you call me Kier bear, i kill a small baby seal.

i have now killed more sea life than the BP oil spill. and its all your fault.

*Rubs WLK's belly*

Marshal, I do enjoy you so. But I think WLKs anger may be causing the polar ice caps to melt.

I think the reason that so many people play wolves is because of the sheer ability of everyone to play them the way that they want to, there is no right way to play wolves. If you want to run a CQC army, or a long range heavy weapons army, or even a fully mobilized army. No matter your play style with Wolves, you can be successful.

The other reason that I think that so many people play Wolves is that person can model their models however they want. They can be made to look like anything that they want.

And lastly, the fluff behind the Wolves is just way too cool not to like.

Wolves are popular because, when I walk into a gaming store for the first time, I can pick out each and every Wolf player. I walk over, shake their hand, pat 'em on the back before we're even introduced, ask "Wolves, right? Same here." and boom, instant friendship.

Wolves are popular on the tabletop because we aren't OMGUBERGREAT at anything, but we're damned good at everything. We are well rounded, we are balanced, and in that balance, we are unstoppable.

Wolves are popular because, as it has been said by many already, "If you have to ask, you're not a Wolf."

Finally, Wolves are popular (especially on this board) because, when it comes down to it, every one of us will defend or stick up for a member of the Pack. What I've noticed in seven years of lurking in the other subforums is that, when push comes to shove, those subforums are "Every man for themselves." Here, even if we have internal disagreements, the moment someone shows up and attempts to shake up the (limited) order around here, the Fang will reform into one solid force to smite the transgressor.

Warm is nice :)

All right, all right. I'll be gentle with him. I'm just sore I didn't get to duff him over in the Arena of Blood. *sigh* Maybe next year ;)

*tosses caber*

Mm, not bad.

Whilst I am cool about you saying the good things about the Wolves, I think in an effort to praise your pack-mates, you have actually besmirched The Eternal Crusader and the other forums too.

I cannot agree with what you have said, and I don't think you'd get much traction if you went and posted the "Every man for themselves." in those other forums, rather than in the safety of the Fang, surrounded by other Wolves.

But that is your prerogative, I guess.

*shrugs*

"Come on Silver, it must be your turn" *hands caber to his overwhelmed Blood Claw*

:P

Indeed it is, why I feel quite warm and fuzzy when I'm in this forum.... Oh wait thats just someone brushing past me.. Lol But yes, it is nice to have such jovial camaraderie here. Why I remember when Grey Mage was just a Grey Hunter. Now he's white and wrinkly with Moderator age :) .
