Indeed! Here comes Your ale, but since You are Templar feel free to give it back or pass to WLK :tu:

I think they have multiple themes which attract players. This allows them to attract a variety of players

1)They are the good guys they fight for what is right and care about the little guys. This is rare in the grim dark of 40k which tends to be about doing what you must to survive not doing what right.

2)Anti establishment, they are willing to tell the other groups imperium where to go and fight them if they feel they must. This always appeals to teenagers and even some of us oldies.

3) Fun loving attitude, they like beer, women, stories and games. This gives them a far more human feel. no spending one hour solitary PERSONAL time like the Ultramarines and templars. Teenagers spend enough time doing this they dont want their heroes to spend time with their pants around their ankles.

4)Viking werewolf themes these appeal to many northern europeans

5)Modelling opportunites there is a great individualism about space wolf models allowing for a lot of expression of skill and talent.

6) they are hard on the table. This comes and goes but it does help

Classic game. I cannot recount the lost hours and the midnight oil burned playing it!!

I play Space Wolves because deep down inside me something tells me to. Like gas, but kick ass. Could be my heritage, my disposition, or my destiny.

End of Line

I always thought females came with built in fangs and claws already considering I heard they sure know how to bite and claw with their teeth and nails glad I haven't found out first hand though.

catch them on the wrong days each month and they make Wulfen look tame.

(Sorry, been resisting that for too long now)

it was more of an analogy with my statement than a literal one. as in having more experience being a wolf player and earning my fangs

I've always presumed it due to what I call the Wolverine Factor. The sterotypical person that this hobby attracts, plus the age at which most people pick up the hobby, lends themselves towards liking characters which are anti-establishment and good guy rebels (so even though they go against the grain and attempt to pretend otherwise, they are still good guys at heart). So people pick up the Space Wolves because they like the character they have, almost like they want to be like the Space Wolves (as people connect better with those we feel we want to be or are like). I wouldn't say this is true as much now, but I think this could be a reason for the original strong Space Wolf club. Then, as you can see with the Black Templars, either good rules or a good crowd promotes more new users and this in turn makes GW focus more on them which gets more players into them (and continue). The Black Templars were a semi-boring chapter before Codex Armegeddon gave them some good rules. People picked them up and they've joined the big 4 to make a big 5. I'm guessing if the Sallies rules were as good they would be in that position.

Oh I know what you were implying I just felt like adding a little humor to the thread and your comment served as a nice jumping point for my own.

Space Wolves are popular with me just for the aspect of all the wolves and wolf stuff I mean come on wolves are cool plus come winter I always end up looking kind of like one because I let my hair and beard grow out.

I thought it was a good idea if I made an apology for bringing gender and leading this thread slightly off topic at the same exact time so I do apologize for that and for possibly offending any forum members unintentionally like our mods or any of our female members or just any of the members in general.

This will possibly be my last post on this topic until I can think of something constructive to add to the topic at a later time.

Space Wolves were the first 40k army I collected. I had the entire Chapter in EPIC scale (which I regretably sold along with vitually everything GW years ago :( ), but as to how I came to like them? Well, way back GW used to give out an A5 size painting guide (red cover if I recall) and whilst my friends had gone down the route of the Ultras, BA's and Dark Angels, I saw the Leman Russ model (which I still have albeit at my Parents in the attic somewhere) and know I had to start a Space Wolf army. Also helps in that I love Wolves anyway (I get a calendar every year from my family [who think I'm mad like a wolf anyway :P ] with Wolf pics in it....) As a few will know I also have the Wolf that stalks the stars image tattoo'd on my right inner forearm.

I tend to lurk here now, occasionally looking in on the "Roll out the Barrels" thread ;) and I don't have an intention of starting a new army (at the moment at least - who knows though ;) ), as I'm trying to get some momentum going with the 3 DIY armies I've started (2 Loyalist, 1 Traitor), but I'm still a SW player at heart. It kinda helps that the Wolf sub forum is quite friendly (which the site as a whole is anyway, but I digress) and has like minded people as me posting in it ^_^

As they say, you can take the player from the Wolves, but not the Wolf from the player ;)
