Paint question

Black is the toughest and coolest colour there is. That's why GW changed DA from black to green ~ because the other Big Four were getting insecure. So GW realised black really was the hardcore and made the chief baddies, the Black Legion. Because it fits the big boss, ya know?

Then they realised the goodies needed someone actually hardcore enough to wear the black for the good guys, so that ruled out the Raven Guard and Iron Hands. That's why they created the Black Templars. They even took psykers and devastators away from us to compensate for us being the single malt of awesome.

They'd only hate you for doing it before they'd thought of it. Jealousy, it's a terrible thing.

Simplest solution would be to paint them Adeptus Battlegrey or Fenris Grey (depending on if you want monochrome or cool grey... also, any spray paint equivalent) then wash with either Badab Black or Devlan Mud (again, monochrome or warm grey). If you keep the wash uniform and apply over several coats (I think three even coats should do.. let each coat fully dry!) you should get a very deep grey which would be about as close to black without being black as I believe you can get.

However, I don't think anyone would oppose you simply painting them black. It is your army, after all. I would recommend checking out anything MaveriK has done here in the Fang. He likes his wolves dark and they come out great!

Well Black they shall be! It will go nicely with the flames of Kjarl Grimblood. Oh yes, I finally decided which wolf lord after a year. I like the possible 'gift' fluff goes along perfectly with some fluff ive been toying around with for a while. Im worried this look might turn out like LotD or BA  .....
Cover your dudes with wolf pelts and such. Paint runes on their knees. Little details will help distinguish them as black space wolves.

Yeah exactly. By the time you have bare heads, wolfy wolf things and cool kitbash from Chaos Fantasy stuff, your dudes won't look like LotD.

I don't know why you'd think they look like BA though?

Are you adding metallics to your flesh colours? :D

;)

Just my two bits.. for my Preheresy Space Wolf Terminators, I chose old school Grey as the main theme color. I took a can of "Halford" grey metal primer. Sprayed them all grey, let dry. Then washed them all in badad black. Done. It really was Just. That. Easy. They look amazing too. I will post a picture so you can get a feel, I'll pop it on when I get home.

To be fair Wilhelm, at the very least they'd have the "skin of a killer!" ;)
