dublindawg
they look awefully short to be a sword. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227430-frost-blades/#findComment-2724486 Share on other sites
skoll
here they are in perspective to the model that wields em http://privateerpress.com/files/imagecache/1up/products/the-protectorate-of-menoth/warjacks/avatar-of-menoth.png thats the burning wrath, note that model is slightly larger than a dreadnought(so the sword is as big or bigger than a power armour marine) this is the other blade http://store.miniwargaming.com/images/P/paladin_order_wall_alt_full.jpg this is a 28mm scale model as well, but its around the size of a marine mayhaps a tad larger. so both these blades are pretty large, and would fit an IC rather nicely ,there is another one i have in mind, but it'll be using that one myself so hopefully you guys will see it pretty soon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227430-frost-blades/#findComment-2724530 Share on other sites
DeepDarkSecret
My problem with using PP's bits for 40k is they just don't match the style. It's kinda like having an Anime character in a bugs bunny cartoon where it's similar because it's still an animation but it really stands out in my opinion in a bad way. My favorite bit to convert into a frost blade are the new Blood Letter Swords they look like a frosty weapon and if you paint it right look great. Silverwolf
Yeh... those swords are far to ornate to suit Space Wolves imo. Remember Frost Blades are supposed to be blades forged from the teeth of a Kraken. mitchell93
I prefer to think if frost blades as relic/ornate weapons e.g. my egil ironwolf wields the cogged axe from the old techmarine kit. Silverwolf
yes but we're talking about Ornate in the terms of a Space Wolf - Not ornate in terms of Ultramarines. Our relic weapons aren't going to be big shiney things covered in bling. Our relic weapons would be big savage things, with some phrase of warding written in runes upon them, wolf teeth hanging from them, hilt's made of the bones of Fenrisian wolves (or Hell, one single giant piece, blade and all, carved from a single Kraken tooth). And being bone, over time, specially the hundreds of years of war a Frost Blade would experience, it would chip, and age. Not to the point of being unusable. They would after-all being careful maintained, but even the best maintenance cannot buff-out chips created when the blade has met something like a relic blade or singing spear. On top of that, Space Wolves would probably even view such nicks and chips as badges of honour upon the blade. Proof apparent that the blade has met many a worthy foe, and it's wielder has returned to tell the tale of this. Nrthstar
Aesthetically They look awful to me. They look more like clubs than swords. Pass for me, they look great for war machine, but like the man said, it just isn't refined enough here. What I'm stoked to use is the would axe off a scibor celtic warrior! Forté
Word that sprung to mind was 'stubby'. Not norse/ Viking enough for my taste. Sorry. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227430-frost-blades/#findComment-2725837 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
Word that sprung to mind was 'stubby'. Not norse/ Viking enough for my taste. Sorry. ^ That's another way to look for them. Use google to search for images of Viking / Norse weaponry, and get some ideas, then have a look around at conversions different people have done. Marshal Wilhelm
The old Wolf sprue, still available, has a sword on that. Link: Wolf accesory sprue : Sang guard have whopper swords : Grey Knights hace sweet great swords While the second two are not as "Viking" as the current FB, they are neato swords and being fairly big, allow you to have them stand out, whether you paint them all fancy with lightning crackles or just a nice colour [like that blue GW uses] +++ I think the PP swords are more like clubs than swords. I have some of their maces and morning stars for my Dreads, but I'd not recommend the swords. skoll
those are just examples , they have much thinner blades and regular long swords. However these stood out to me as the giant non sophisticated slabs of metal only the mightiest of men could use, to each his own however also i know the GK sprue has sweet swords problem is 33 dollars for a few swords is a bit much. and the few bits on ebay sell the two handed swords sprue with only one arm.....
