their kin
Hey guys, I'm hoping to get some titans over the summer, and I'm hoping to, before long, have at least a maniple. The question is, though, what exactly constitutes a maniple? Does anyone know what the TO would look like for a Legio? What are the intervening units of organization (if there are any)? Thanks in advance guys. -Joe Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227474-legio-titanicus-to/ Share on other sites

dswanick
-or- Are you referring to the actual Venatarii Reaver Titan Maniple apocalypse formation described on Pg.206 of IA 7 - The Siege of Vraks? That one consists of 1+ Reaver titans and 2+ Warhound titans. Vodunius
According to Lexicanum, the Legio is contained in four divisions: the military orders, the Divisio Mandati, Divisio Telepathic, and the Divisio Investigatus. The military orders being the division being the primary battle unit, with the Mandati and Telepathica having engines for specialized use, and the Investigatus being the part that constructs them. The Legio consists of about 50 engines, though not all would be in the military orders. According to Wikipedia, a maniple is a post-phalanx arrangement of Roman legions in three parts (the maniples), adopted for greater flexibility. So a guess based on that would be 30 engines in 3 maniples of 10 each, with the remaining 20 engines being in the other divisions of the Legion. Perhaps some variation based on the role of the maniple, say less for heavy titans like the Imperator or Warlord, and more for skirmish or scout titans like the Reaver and Warhound. But that's just a guess, so take it or leave it. I'm sorry, there's no easy way to say this but that's frankly rubbish.. for starters if you actually read the whole wiki article on maniples you'd see that a legion was 60 maniples not three.. Secondly the Lexicanum page on the Collegia Titanica is quite clear: Collegia Titanicus > Divisions > Titan Legions not Titan Legion > Divisions According to the Titan Legions game a legion consists of anywhere from a dozen to a hundred titans depending on the legion: Emperor's are fielded singly, Battle Titans are fielded in Battlegroups of 3 whilst Warhounds are fielded either in pairs or singly - either alone or attached to larger formations. The Vraks formation seems to be derived from the Titan Legions fluff but with Battlegroup renamed to Maniple (for reference in RT Robot were fielded in Maniples of 4) and with Scout titan attachment being Mandatory. Warsmith Aznable
I did say it was a guess, and apparently not the best one combined with the evident breakdown of critical reading on my part that night. Mea culpa. "4" is probably a better answer for a maniple size then, "100" is you prefer binary... <_< Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227474-legio-titanicus-to/#findComment-2767476 Share on other sites
minigun762
I believe there is a quote from the IA 10 article describing 3 full maniples of 5 titans each. I can double check when I get home, but that might give you some idea. EDIT: I confirmed it. On the page detailing "The Warmongers", it says: The Legion Crucius forces deployed to the siege of Badab itself comprised three full maniples of Titans, some fifteen machines in all.
