Compressor question

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

So, it seems I have figured why Im having so many problems lately with my AB...

After some time (30 min) brushing, it starts throwing less and less paint...until it only splatters!! I thought it was the AB being dirty ( sometimes it has been) but now it has happened I had to stop the brushing for 5 min...and noticed the hose being really hot on the end connected to the compressor.

When I picked it up, having cooled down a bit, I had NO PROBLEM!

So...

1. Why can this be?

2. How can I prevent it? Besides stopping, that is...

Thanks for the help!

It sounds to me like its a build up of moisture in the gun due to running the compressor for extended periods of time. Are you using a holding tank or does the hose run straight from the compressor to the brush??

The fix for these issues is either drain the moisture trap on the tank/compressor and possibly add another inline moisture trap to the brush end, also if you are not using a holding tank you may want to consider a filter to stop any contamination getting inside the brush. Most compressors will last much longer if you give them time to cool due to the heat they generate during use, also if you are using acrylic paint its a good idea to clean the brush during prolonged sessions to prevent the needle getting coated in paint and reducing the flow of air through the brush.

If you dont use a holding tank then it may be a better idea to just get one of these as it will double the life of your compressor and then some as it will only run when the pressure in the tank gets too low.

I hope this is of some use mate.

Thanks for the reply.

If by holding tank you mean those compressors that build up a reserve of pressure, no mine doesnt have that, its really simple ( and silent).

My setup is compressor, spiral hose, moisture trap and AB.

Im starting to think I should get a better compressor...but its expensive :(
