Valerian
Fellow Knights, I'm really looking to avoid buying Rhinos and Razorbacks for my Grey Knights army that I'll be updating to 5th Edition, as I just hate the idea of any Space Marines in tracked vehicles. I'm a big fan of the Stormraven, so I'll be buying one of those, but at 205+ points per I certainly won't be able to get enough of those to "mount up" my entire army. Can any of you think of a decent looking, and appropriately sized, flyer/skimmer model that I can use as a Rhino or Razorback substitute (i.e. a "counts-as" Rhino)? I don't mind the rules for the Rhino, and certainly the price is more than reasonable enough for what it provides for your core units; I just want to avoid putting my elite Space-based Marines in a tracked vehicle that looks more or less what my old First Sergeant drove around in. Grey Mage
You could always convert up some rhinos to be the "Emperors Gift" unit they had in the Tempest Fugitives campaign pack. Its noted as being a rare transport- as its a skimmer- used only by the most elite forces such as the custodes and sisters of silence. Post-heresy I wouldnt be suprised if the GKs had access to them, fluffwise. Joasht
Many years ago (probably about 10+ years ago) there were pictures on the internet of several flying Rhino models based off the old Rhino chassis (as the current one wasn't released yet) and a really beautiful flying Chimera kitbashed from the bits of two Landspeeders in the earlier days of 3rd ed. Basically you chop off the back part of the Land Speeder and stick it on to the sides of the vehicle. Done properly I think it looks great. Wonder if those photos are still out there. kiwitexansfan
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-4000...US-LIGHTER.html It is a flyer by rule but they would look good in support of a storm raven. CanisD
Found these a good many years ago. Regretfully these small pics are all I have. All combine Eldar and Space Marine parts. Not sure if they work together that well though. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/CanisD/Shipyard/Board/MVC-279S.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/CanisD/Shipyard/Board/MVC-280S.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227614-rhino-substitute/#findComment-2727548 Share on other sites
Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Those look excellent! Valerian, I would definitely look at the Arvus. Not only would it work for a transport fluff and model-wise, but it is also excellent for the 'get to the last shuttle' scenarios. Valerian
@CanisD - Those look very cool, but I don't think I quite have the skills to pull those off. Those look excellent! Valerian, I would definitely look at the Arvus. Not only would it work for a transport fluff and model-wise, but it is also excellent for the 'get to the last shuttle' scenarios. Agreed, the Arvus Lighter looks perfect for what I had in mind. I had forgotten about that model. Too bad it runs about 3 times as much money as a Rhino, though! Looks like I'll need to start saving some money, or selling off a few things I don't need anymore. Thanks for the recommendations fellas, V Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227614-rhino-substitute/#findComment-2727707 Share on other sites
Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Well, you probably won't need a massive number of Rhinos, so it should be easier than something like a Vanilla Rhino army. It'll still be expensive, though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227614-rhino-substitute/#findComment-2727711 Share on other sites
