Levitas
I've been playing around with lists that didnt include Thunderwolves, but still wanted to continue the saga of my Wolf Lord, Eryk Dawnchaser. He is armed so I can count him as Ragnar in the odd game. No real fancy conversions, just glad I still had the same old head that sits on my Thunder Wolf version. Plus the face came out a lil better on foot. So here he is 'as Russ intended' http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XAJ8-YA6XYo/TatXAA_f--I/AAAAAAAAAa4/rZScTd3S8_8/s1600/Wolf_lord_onfoot.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_27VhTyf1Rk/TatW_1CkbRI/AAAAAAAAAaw/hxDF72HGTrA/s1600/Wolflord_left_foot.jpg And riding his Thunder Wolf http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_x1vt2GUjp_I/S8RkYFcUFII/AAAAAAAAAIM/GwwjE_pvpeY/s1600/Eryk_closeup.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227714-wolf-lord-on-foot-painted/ Share on other sites
hendrik
he's got a different top knot though when he's on his thunderwolf but he looks good none the less! :D is there a special reason you decided to change the twin wolf heads their colour on both breastplates? Heimdal
Very nice! Your ability to paint faces is great :D Personally I would have made him more battleworn, gives a more grim impresson. Levitas
he's got a different top knot though when he's on his thunderwolf but he looks good none the less! ;)is there a special reason you decided to change the twin wolf heads their colour on both breastplates? The top knot was from an ork boxset, could not track one down although will swap it out. But them maybe riding a thunderwolf is a lot like riding in a drop top, not good on the hair? :) Yes, as the thunderwolf is white I didnt want to use even more white on his breastplate. But on foot I thought it worked ok, helps me pick him out in the middle of a bloodclaw scrum. He could have been more battle worn, but not really my style. He is a clinical killer, no mess I guess... MaveriK
beautiful work as always! its always a pleasure seeing your work, at least for me it is LOL. I love your painting, its so nice and clean! but more importantly, it stands out. If I have a spare ork knot top, since I've used the same, I'll PM message you! Cheers wolf brother! an ale from me to you! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227714-wolf-lord-on-foot-painted/#findComment-2727762 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
I just really love your painting and scheme. I can't imagine how your army looks in person. My only nitpick is his sword, I think he deserves something more epic/special. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Ah, but his sword emphasizes his awesomeness, for it shows how he does not need fancy weapons to be a great warrior, and that he is not only great, but also humble. Levitas
Thanks brothers, as always C&C is very welcome. @MavericK, thank you sir! I am a huge fan of your stuff also, inspired by several models. An ork topknot would be cool, pretty sure this particular one isnt available any more - but do PM me if you come by one. The ale is very welcome :P @Lord Ragnarok. An ale for you too, for you did hit upon my troubles with this model. I will horde bits but are somewhat impatient if I dont have what i need to hand. I was 50/50 on the sword, but then chapter master has just described it beautifully. Love it, and will write it into his saga. There are too many wolves on my painting table, so will no doubt join you round the fires again when I have more to show. That is a good fluff point, although WL's typically horde the best of the best of the best and dole them out to the WG as an honour and a way to kick more BuTTocks. ---------------------- Some reason I've never thought to paint the middle ridge area of the krak nades the same as the top. I will steal that. (Although it will look only 5 percent as good. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227714-wolf-lord-on-foot-painted/#findComment-2728993 Share on other sites
Firenze
Excellent painting! Very clean. He does look a little plain on foot, but on the thunderwolf, it looks epic. Well done! Wulfebane
From foot to TW, it's a bit inconsistent and I'm having trouble deciding which differences I prefer. White crest vs silver for starters. They both have merit, but I think if you stay with white on your shoulder, then the silver might be preferable. I do agree that your TW WL is more impressive. The topknot is a definite reason for that, but also having the wolf head backpack (with banner?) on the TW model is another cause for the foot model to seem lacking. One preference I can claim is I like the more flushed and fleshy look of the foot model's face vs the pallid, sallow tone of the TW face ....though I like the darker circles on the TW face. One thing that's biting at me is the name. Neither model is shouting "dawnchaser" at me. Is it just a name to him, or is it more of a family heraldry motif, or is there some sort of lore/myth/battle causing him to take the name.. and if so, why has he not tried to show it on his person? (Unless he has and I somehow missed the subtleties, for which I apologize.) Only part that might claim "dawnchaser" to me is when he's mounted on a TW, but even so, I would think he'd have some sort of symbolism painted/sculpted on himself. Beautifully painted, by the way. The cleanliness of your lines and choices in tones are impressive. The cleanliness of your lines and choices in tones are impressive. Really cool feedback, thanks! The model was originally a jump pack wolf lord, and came before the thunderlord version. He had a different head and weapons. Then after a few games he was replaced by the Thunderlord, who has many kills to his name. He has fluff, so didnt want to loose that when I run him on foot. Would have been nice to have him exactly the same but was happy to salvage the old jump pack lord and give him the same head as my thunderlord. Also ran out of bitz to really go to town so he may get more love latter on. Here is his fluff, which should go someway to explaining his name... Wolf Lord Eryk Dawnchaser The Space Wolves have never been ones to stick close to the codex, and many believe that the old wolf fiercely guards secrets about the exact size of his chapter. Even within the fangs walls hushed voices talk of great companies active outside of the core twelve Wolf Lords. The great company nicknamed the White Wolves is a case in point. The White Wolves origination is shrouded in enigmatic and venerable tales, loosely describing a sacred oath and a gathering of the chapters fabled hunters and trackers milenia ago. More talk of the burning vengeance of Russ and that not one of his enemies will escape the jaws of the wolf. When the wolfs honor has been dealt a blow and their folly escaped, it is believed they are marked by the white wolf. An unrelenting hunter of the dream world who hungers for vengeance and will harry its foe into the abyss itself. The white wolf is a patient, silent and determined hunter, traits Wolf Lords of the White Wolves always hold . For they track the most elusive and vile of foes, striking deep in their lair ready to extract the debt owed in blood to the chapter. Eryk Dawnchaser was always destined for greatness, quickly tempering the beast within to harness its cunning and thirst for the hunt. The charismatic and cunning wolf guard was not one to give up the chase, harassing and pursuing until the enemy was utterly destroyed. Earning his recognition in pursuit of a riotous speed freak ork warband who had escaped the jaws of the wolf. Eryks pack chased the warband for months across the barren desert planes, until in a deep and narrow valley he caught up with them. Swarming in between the ramshackle truks and rocks, he planted multiple melta bombs on the warlords prize battle wagon. Sustaining several wounds from ork fire, he held consciousness just long enough to see the ork vehicle explode and light up the night. The explosion painted a fake dawn, thus earning Eryk the name Dawnchaser and a place in the companies elite. It was this dogged determination combined with razor sharp cunning that ensured Eryk joined the ranks of the White Wolves.
