Iron-Daemon Forge
"Remember us." As simple an order as a Space Wolf Lord can give. "Remember why we died." Throne of Skulls Spring/Arpil 2011 battle report Hi everone So this weekend was the Warhammer 40,000 Throne of Skull tournament in Warhammer World in Nottingham, HQ of all that is Games Workshop. There been some changies to the event since last year & overall I can say with out any dout that the tournament this weekend has been far my favrout event, really is in the No1 spot for some many brillaint reason. Overall I can say the GW event team do listen to us & do make the changies needed. So I highly suggest people to attend & have a brillaint time instead of sitting that home behind the screen & moan none stop about how you would never go which to be honsty seen on all the fourm is getting really sick & tired. When I come onto the fourms I don't want to see moan, I want to see brillaint converted & painted armies & to read tournament reports, I want to enjoy the hobby for what it for, it all about getting games with friends & in general having a laught. As said I really enjoy ToS April & was a brillaint event & so here will be my account. First up the army list & my army background The Gate of Morkai Strike Force HQ Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar Rune Priest, Runic Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Chooser of Slain, Wolf-tooth necklace – 120 Psychic power: Living Lighting, Jaws of the World Wolf Elites Dreadnought Rothgar the Skald Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Twin Linked Lascannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 160 Dreadnought Odin Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 140 Wolf Guards: Sevn, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Edgtho, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Rethel, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Haltaf, Frag & Krak Grenades, Combi Melta – 23 Troops Grey Hunter Unit Trovald 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit Gnyrll 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit Ranek 8 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 165 Rhino, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Dozer Blade – 55 Grey Hunter unit Freyr 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Melta Gun – 80 Razorback 40, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra Armour 15, Twin Linked Heavy Bolter – 55 Fast Attack Land Speeder unit Storm Wolves 2 Land Speeder, 2 Multi Melta, 2 Heavy Flamer – 140 Total - 1497pts I remember as many had foreseen, a great evil descending on Asgard VII Prime. Those that once knew peace now knew only war. With their homes destroyed by the foes of the Imperial, hope faded & the population were led into the shadow of despair. Asgard VII Prime was left defenceless. But there was salvation, a light in these darkest times. They arrived from the sky, those warriors of the mighty Space Wolves, warriors who can set fear into the very heart of evil. We fought, we fought for our dead, we fought for the very earth we stood upon, we spilt their blood, we fought for the Imperial, for Russ & the All Father. We may be few & our enemies many, yet so long as there remains one of us still fighting, one who still rages in the name of justice & truth, then by the All Father, Asgard VII Prime shall yet know hope. Saga of Asgard VII Prime by Dreadnought, Rothgar the Wolf Guard & Skald of the 5th Great Company. The 5th Great Company is an incredibly mobile battle force, able to reach threatened zones swiftly. The array of purity seals, trophies & runes adorning the vehicles, Dreadnoughts & power armour of the Space Marines show the experience & resolve of the 5th Great Company over many successful campaigns. Leonidas Buliwyf Wolf Lord of the 5th Great Company has sent a small task force led by Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar to investigate what threat the planet Asgard VII Prime is faced with. They started their campaign on Asgard VII Prime to bring the light of hope back to this darkened world. Rune Priest Dilios has been of great consul toward Leonidas Buliwyf, offering advice & wisdom. Even all those year ago when Dilios was a mere Blood claw, he was level headed & has the gift of using psychic power, if you can say that about the young Blood Claws. He always had the eyes of the Rune Priest on him. Since arriving upon the soil of Asgard VII Prime, Rune Priest Dilios had noticed that there was a strange energy drawing the foes of the Imperial to the planet. Many races are drawn toward this world all seeking to claim the relic of this planet; from the barbaric Orks who only lust for war, the twisted Dark Eldar always looking for slave & game, Eldar who are untrustworthy, Tyranids who only seek to consume everything in front them to the corrupted servants of Chaos who seek revenge on those they once served. It seemed there was some form of secret hidden on the planet. There is so much more to the world than the average eye is allowed to see. Some say this secret has been there since the days of the Great Crusade when the mighty Emperor of Mankind walked the earth, a relic that cannot fall into the foe of the Imperial. While others say there is a nameless evil resting in the world of Asgard VII Prime, a terrible being, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. Nothing could stop it or hold it or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky & tear down your world as legend would say. One thing is certain, the Space Wolves have allies in this darkest time. Rune Priest Dilios has sent Squad Hrolf to scout ahead of the main force. During their scout mission, squad Hrolf were ambushed & were badly wounded. When the Space Wolves strike force arrived, Dilios saw that the unit of Grey Hunter were saved by fellow Space Marines. Their armour was as Black as the void; their armour was covered in the flames of Redemption & the bones of Vengeance. Bullets seem to past through these mysterious Space Marines. Once Squad Hrolf was saved they left behind only a pile of slaughtered Imperial foe; yet not a single Black Space Marine lay on the ground, they vanished as though they had never been there in the first place. Rune Priest Dilios has heard many stories. He knows these Space Marines to be called Legion of the Damned, rumoured to be from the Fire Hawks Chapter, who went missing in the Warp…. Practise games Living in Scotland ment me & my friend had to leave pretty earily & we planned to get into Warhammer World on the Fri, the day before the event. Try get some practise games in, get some food from bugman bar & in general try see if there was many people we knew. With in pretty much walking into Warhammer World I bump into my friend Graham (won ToS with Sister of Battle) & Captain Idaho. Then with in a few second of walking into Bugman bar I bump into my friend who is a new memeber of the Eavy Metal team follow by bump into Spikyjames from these fourms. After getting some food as it was a six hour car drive. It was time to give my friend Graham & back then soon to be Throne of Skulls April champion, a practise game. The Ecclesiarchy Comes to Fenris Game - d3+2 object marker Set up - Pitch battle Army list - Bare in mind this is not detail by detail going from what I rememeber & I just came back from a weekend of solid gaming - 3x Exsorsit (sp) (Heavy Support tanks), Jump Pack sister of Battle unit, few units in Rhino Sure Graham can post up a better detail version of his army list :) Sorry Graham, only take a beaten from your army, not sure what units as there all the same to me :) I knew this game was going to be tough, even for a practise game as Graham a good player & know his army inside & out. So afer rolling for mission & set up. It was time to get started. Now for tournament report I do not tend to do a turn by turn account, bad enough trying to rememeber most stuff after the weekend & then come back up after the event. Just a quick note & tons of photos. After set up, it was time to start the game which saw both of our armies move in close as possible. For Graham it was for his shooting, for me it so I can get into combat sooner than later & so his Heavy Support tanks would not be able to pick my transport off like my first game vs them last year when try out my SW army. Though out the game my Space Wolves where getting slaughter & I belive by the end I barely had anything left alive. I've never underestamated (sp) Sister of battle fire power after battle Graham for all these years from diffrent armies. They are lethal & with so many units your try to stop them as much as possible before they can get into your lines. In the end I loss against the Sister & I belive everthing of mine was wipe out http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08942.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08943.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08945.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08946.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08947.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08948.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08949.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08950.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08951.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08952.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08954.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08955.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08956.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08957.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08960.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08962.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08964.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08966.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08967.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08968.jpg Up next. After my first practise game GraemePaul who on here & warseer walk up to meet up with fellow memeber from the fourms. Ask if any of us want a game & so I step up wanting another game with my Space Wolves for the weekend. Also I not got that many games of 40k since the 40k double tournaments. Iron-Daemon Forge
This battle is over when I say it is over Oppent GraemePaul Army - Tau Mission - Kill Points, Spearhead Army - Again rememeber from what I face & sure Graeme will keep me right. Tau Battle suit HQ, 2x unit of Fire Warriors one in tank, unit of Kroot, 2x Rail Gun battle suit & two Hammer heads, few Battle suit units kicking around. Loss again GraemePaul came by our table to find out if any of us where on any of the fourms so he could put names to face. When me & Graham finish our game, he ask if anyone would be up for another round, so I step up. I would be battle Tau, a army I have little experince on & tend to not do so well & add onto this, Space Wolves is Graeme other army, a army he been collecting since starting the hobby many years ago & know them inside & out. A bit like me with Chaos Space Marines, as my Iron Warriors are almost 10 year old & I not included Chaos in general, I been in the hobby for 15 years now. Upon roll mission, we got spearhead...ahh!!! For those who have not seen my last ToS report, we had to roll for our mission (but now back to the event team which is better in my view) as I got four spreadhead set up. It dose kick my Space Wolves in a little bit. But what can you do that the end of the day other than to just get stuck in & fight it out & have a brillaint game. For me I was aim to move in fast as possible, trying to cover the length of the table as much as possible & in the hope that my Grey hunter would be able to get in there & slaughter these Tau. But it was not to be as Graeme went for my transport asap & there only so many cover save from smoke you can make. But during the game, Wolf Guard Rethel once again earn his rep. Basicly Rethel is well know for make his Armour saves against all odds. This rage from 16 armour save on him alone vs Blood Angels & my friend give me £20 if I past all of them, resulted in me pasting 14 out of 16 save. During ToS Nov he took on a Greater Daemon of Nurgle, follow by 14 to 16 save vs the unit of Nurgle Daemon troops. Against Graeme, he went to ground vs Tau Battle suit Plasma fire, then a few other shot from the launcher. This was follow by a rail gun shot. No matter what he was makeing all his save. But by the time he was not in ground, I was not going to temp fate to much & move into terrain as soon as possible. In the end I loss in kill points with four units left. I'll need to try find Tau oppent to try & improve as I alway struggle against them no matter the army http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08970.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08971.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08972.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08973.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08974.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08976.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08977.jpg Wolf Guard Rethel http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08978.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08979.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08981.jpg This Grey Hunter withdrew when his unit got badly blasted. But came back & hunted the Battlesuit unit that destroyed his fellow battle brother. With Oath of vengance being shouted, he ran in bolter aim true & ended up wounding one of the Battle Suit, though the Grey Hunter die in return. He made sure the Tau knew that even a wound Wolf is as dangerous (sp) & will attck all the more. Thanks to wound that battle suit, it help another Grey Hunter unit to bolter it down with rapid fire getting me those kill points, since this was his HQ unit with bodyguards. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08982.jpg Speeder miss deep strike & where place where Graeme wanted them http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08983.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08984.jpg So with Fri practise & with afternoon turn to night. Iron-Daemon Forge
Space Wolves never retreat! Space Wolves never surrender! Oppent - Mark Milton Army - Blood Angels Mission - Kill point Dawn of War :) Army list: Thanks to Mark for the list - Dante, High Priest, Furioso Dreadnought, Assault Terminators, 5 Sanguinary Guards, 5 Assault Marines, 10 Assault Marines, Storm Raven. Ever tournament the same for me, it the first round & your waiting nerviously (sp) to find out what army you will be face. Due to a few table not having oppent there, Mark was brought along to my table by the event team as they pair of people still waiting for oppent. Once got the army list out & went though terrain. It was time to see what the mission would be. I was happy when the event team rolled for Dawn of War & Kill points. In Nov as a brillaint event it was, we had to roll for mission & I got 4x spearhead & not a single kill point during then. So to get this on round 1 was brillaint, I enjoy Kill points & I enjoy Dawn of War set up. Mark set up his two unit of Assault marines & was going first. While I chose to keep everthing off & to come on the first turn, allow me to see where his army strength would be & like Wolves, try to take on the weaker flank or the flank with not so much hassle. Like wise it great battle Blood Angels a fellow combat army as there nothing I like more than a bitter close combat & being fellow battle brother from a diffrent chapter there would be great honour in this. It was a really close game which ended on turn five. I had 5 kill points, while Mark had 4 Kill points. We both talk about the game after word & saying if it went on how close it would really be. For exsample I had a Razorback in ruin building ready to try take on the Storm Raven, but same time Mark could have possible made a cover save if the game went on. Like wise he still had his Terminators which would cause me some problem as my Grey Hunter where being slaughter. Like wise I had my Dreadnought with Lascannon will walking around ready to assault anything near by. It really good when you look back that games, if finish easily, just talk to the oppent & what could have happen "if" it went on to those extra turns, Also while we had a close game. Rumour had it a Imperial Guard force loss by one kill point vs Necrons really tough game from what I heard but really fun & great laughter had by all who hear or talk to the two player. Thanks Mark for the game, really enjoy it & hope you enjoy your first Tournament. Tournament tip: Alway use a tray. Lucky Warhammer World have a supply for us to use though out the event http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08988.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08989.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08990.jpg My army rolling on http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08992.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC08993.jpg Do you want to live forever. It was time to set up our armies for the Best armies nominee & also get some lunch as let face it we are wargamer & we need food more than anyone else & I am a Space Wolves player, so to re-tale story in the festing halls it what we do!!!! http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09002.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09003.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09004.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09005.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09006.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227752-throne-of-skulls-april-2011/#findComment-2728162 Share on other sites
Iron-Daemon Forge
After having a great launch & pint of cola. It was time to get the armies ready for round 2. I would be on table 16 & would be face a oppent I fought once before..... The Tree Protect!!! Oppent Rob Waller Army - Storm Crows Mission - d3+2 Object, Pitch battle Army list - Rune Priest, Rune Priest, 5x 10 Grey Hunter units, 2x 6 Long Fangs units & 5 Wolf Guards. That 69 Space Wolves. Quote Games Workshop Throne of Skulls News from the Front Jamie Farquhar's four Space Wolf vehiclese made 13 (!) cover saves in a row thanks to an extremely lucky forest against Rob Waller's Storm Crow Space Marines. Surely Russ was watching over the terrain placement this moring.... I fought Rob during the Throne of Skulls Nov in Spearhead & one object mission. This time it was pitch battle & d3+2 objects, but we would both be useing the same armies & army list :D I won roll off for pick table side & going first. As said there having fought Rob army before I knew what to exspect & wanted to keep to the table side I was on due to the nice amount of terrain & with the object marking being near by. I set up to take as much advantage of the terrain, as Rob said a lot of people will tend to set up thinking of first turn in mind, but it dose led to there down fall. For me I set up alway take advantage of the terrain & I usely go second anyway so I can place my army to re-act to my oppents flanks. Also this shown it as Rob mange to steal first turn & was aim to open my tanks up with his two unit of Long Fangs with there split fire power. Also he had a Terminator Wolf Guard kicking around with Launcher as well. This game also made it into the News from the Front. Basicly in my deployment zone was a area of Tree & a area of Ruins. The Ruines I would fail my cover save & move slow. However this area of trees....... - For two turns I made around 13 cover save for all my tanks - For the whole came I made 90% of armour save on units in there, it was roughly over 100 Rapid Fire Bolter shots into two units of Grey Hunter in there. No matter what, those area of tree seem to protect my army more than the ruin building just to my left!!!! In the end the weight of number got to me & there was only so many armour save you can make. I mange to do a fair amount of damnge. But like before those Long Fangs are alway going to be havoc on my tanks & then the advance of 50 Grey Hunter, 5 Wolf Guard & 2 Rune Priest. Saying that, having talk to Rob that both ToS Nov & after this game, he said he suffer vs Orks. But I seem to be ok with them, first game was vs orks & did not loss that much while taken them down to a mere 20 models. But overall great game & Rob was 2nd best space wolf player in the end. Watch his finial game & that look really close where he battle another Space Wolves player. Was good to get the re-match & hope to get a future re-match in Throne of Skulls tournament. Iron-Daemon Forge
Come back with your shield, or on it. Oppent - Andrew Church Army - Nids Mission - One Object each spearhead (my only one for the event) Army list - Tervigon, 6 Ymgarl Genestealer, 2x 2 Hive Guards, Nid Warriors, Termagant Brood, Trevigon, Genestealer Brood, Carnifex, Trygon. Upon walking to the table I was to face Andrew who I rememeber as he friends with Rob who I fought in the Not ToS, the game above & talk to during the 40k doubles tournament. So like the game vs Rob, I knew I was going to be in for a good game. Also while talking to Andrew he commented how he came 4th in a UKGT heat with the Blood Angels before the new codex was ever out. Like wise he ended up become the best Nids player in the event. To start off with, the table terrain wise was looking a little dodgy & again I won first turn & set up. But to be honsty in hand sight I should have went second like I usely do. Andy commented how he hate Jaws of the World wolf having suffer vs Rob army many a time but he alway enjoy battle against the Wolves. Like wise it was nice to battle the Nids as in the Games Workshop GT/Throne of Skulls I never really fought any Nids & this was the first time. Was really great getting in to combat with these xeno's filth :D Putting them to the sword & the holy bolter round. The game ended up being really close. As my Heavy Bolter unit where assaulting or gunning down units after units. Even Wolf Guard Rethel was going around slaughter all that came near him be it from the Bolter or his Power Fist dispit his unit of Grey Hunter being slaughter. Make many armour save I loss count though out the game. This was also another News from the Front game as well as my Dreadnought, Rothgar the Skald. Basicly he been shot that by the Hive Guards & they got penatrate hits but he got 1's to do any damnge so I was not able to shot the following turn. The Ymgarl Genestealer where threating my Grey Hunter baby sitting object unit, so I assaulted them & once more, more penatrate hits!!! Andy rolls 1's once more!!!! I slaughter the Ymgalr Genestealer. But once more another unit of Genestealer try attack me from the left flank**, I got stuck into combat. Dreadnought Brother Rothgar suffer more penatrate hits & Andy roll nothing but 1's. However on the last turn he mange to get a immobile result!!! In total of the game, there been 20ish dice roll to penatrate Rothgar & 99% of where 1's can not fire & then finial a immobile. I had many people tell me to drop the Dreadnoughts because there to costly, not what they use to be, etc..... But I honsty do not care. My two Dreadnoughts have done really well in ever tournament or game they not been weak that all. There hear to deal with Incubi who would other wise slaughter my units or Bloodcrusher. Or the Genestealer is another exsample, Rothgar save my Grey Hunter baby sitting object unit from two wave of Genestealer alone!!! Who would have other wise went in & slaugther my last troops. Also model wise there great, add a good focuse point to the army as my aim has & alway will be best nominee. I already point out why I take them game wise. Also S10, we do see a lot of Battle Wagon & Land Raider here & there in the tournament scene. ** Genestealer. On turn 1 I fire Heavy Bolter & took them to 25%, they failed there Ld & ran away. There 50%+ try to rally & failed once more, they where really close to the table edge. But Andy mange to rally them & they move in fast, very fast. In the end Andy mange to contest my object. As said in hand sign if I went second I could have just sent Wolf Guard Rethel in to slaughter both with his Power Fist. As I have ever faith in him & his armour saves, as said he already a legand with in the army for this. But it was a great game & nothing was held back. This is what I like about 5th ed. 4th ed was good, but with vpts make up the game people tend to hide when hitting the 50% mark, that resulted in a lot of boring games. 5th ed & also with Throne of Skulls no longer having the finials. It mean people can be more all out. As one of my friends said in another tournament, I really like getting into close combat & I know when I battle Nids, like Andy I will be right in there, battle it out to the bitter end. Paul from the 40k radio world wide tournament in 2008 battle report when he face my Iron Warriors Insane Psychopath is quite an aggressive player btw (the way he plays not his attatude). He did not mention this but when I had 2 transports full of c-marines and a unit of c-terminators arrive 4-12" from my D-cannons almost ontop of both the centre and left objectives.... I was not a happy chappy. I have played his Marine bike army a couple of times too, and he shows the same tendancy. Which is good because there is nothing more boaring than a player that hides at the back and never comits to a do or die stratagy!. As said I like 5th ed that anything can contest or score no matter 50% or under. I like to go out there & get into combat & pretty much smash my oppent army face in as it where & it good not to hold back. Overall it really great. Day 1 of the two day tournament & I have fought three brillaint games, two against new oppents & one re-match. It great when you can get games like this & talk to the oppent after word about the "what if" & about the game in general. Also before I forget Odin my Plasma Cannon arm dreadnought slow getting over his fear of Trygon. In ELG Counter attack last year I fire a Plasma cannon that scatter onto Odin face.... I went into combat needing 3+ to hit, I failed. Trygon was on a wound as well. So he destroyed, it is the S3 from being rip apart that killed the Trygon!!!! This has happen a further seven to eight times as well. Against Andy I fire Plasma cannon which scatter..... but not onto any one, I assaulted & got one hit out of three!!!! Which I belive cause a wound, then he got immobile. Not sure why but it is alway against Trygon, so that 9 trygon & it the same thing over & over & over & over again :) http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09078.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09079.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09080.jpg RUN AWAY!!! http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09081.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09082.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09083.jpg This is where we hold them! It was time to pack up & get dinner which was brillaint as well. Really happy with the food GW have done since Nov last year. Not a single complaint about that. Then me, Andy, Rob & my friend Scott team up to take part in the Bugman Bar pub quiz. It brillaint & alway great banter with all the gamer. Really enjoy the pub quiz. Iron Father Rik
Hi Jamie! Great reports there, really good. It was good to see you at the GT there, and glad you had a good time. Congratulations on the best painted nomination! I totally agree with you about the quality of the tournament. The Throne of Skulls really is a great tournament, and has something to suit absaloutely everyone! People can't complain about it unless they have been there and tried it for themselves. Unfortunately this tournament wasn't the best for me. A combination of horrendous luck sometimes, and a couple of stupid mistakes by me meant my record was awful this time round with my Sons of Medusa (certainly not worthy of the second place they ranked back in November!). My games were quite fun, but none were really the best I've ever played. The last one was far too short and rather dull, over in less than an hour with a 2-1 kill point total at the end. :) But oh well, there's always next time! It was great to meet up with some of the other B&C guys who I have never met. You of course, Insane Psychopath (who I have met before), and myself and my friend Iain (Chaplain Admetus) got chatting to Captain Idaho and a couple of others a bit, so a big hello and thank to you all! Also, well done to Iain - aka Chaplain Admetus - who came second in the Blood Angels at his first ever GT, losing the top spot by virtue of one "favourite opponent" vote! Iron-Daemon Forge
How I hate computer, had to re-start due to it going slow. But by Russ & the all father I will get this finish!!! Having had a great time in bugman bar, been well feed & having some little sleep I could as there some :cuss: idiot in the hotels who seem to be louder that night than during the day slam door, yelling, etc... What ever happen to show some repsect & being quite? more so when it is 2am in the moring. So having a great day 1, it was time for day 2 for the Throne of Skulls tournament. After I set out my army on the table I would be on. I went to try out Bugman bar breakfast for the first time. It was BRILLAINT, really great bacon roll. I would have happily had another one but was nervies during the day. People moan about the lost of the free donut, I never ate them & have little care for them. I am Scottish & a wargame, it all about fried breakfast for me damit!!! I rather have my Bacon roll & pay for it, rather than take donut which I do not like for free. So gone back, make sure all my dice, tape, etc... where out & then I find out I am battle yet another person I fought in a past tournament, the 40k doubles. James Fownes, sorry forgot your name for the 40k doubles & your brother. Space Wolves! Prepare for glory! Oppent - James Fownes Army - Dark Angels Mission - Dawn of War, d3+2 object Army list: Belial, Samael, 3x squad of Terminators, Attack Bike, Raven Wing squad (Combat squad), Speeder. This game show that Dark Angels are still as good & on top that James is a great oppent to play against.... twice ;) For Dawn of War I once again chose to keep everthing of the table so it would allow me to see where the Deathwing would deep strike & where the Bike's would go. I can honsty say right now any one who say Dark Angels are rubbish & out date will be kick in the balls, they are as good as any codex out right now & more so after James Deathwing take on my whole army  On turn 2 & another News from the Front & a epic brillaint part of the game. One of James Terminators squad had came a bit to close to my lines & I wanted to try & take them out as much as possible. I fired 3x Twin Linked Lascannons, 4x Melta (2 combi), 7 Bolt Pistol, Jaws of the Wolf, Rapid Fire 4 Bolter, Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannon.... might be more but you get the just. That near my whole army that are not inside the tank. So I fired into this squad of Terminators a few time thinking I'd kill that least a few.... ever one made there save. The Loin protected them or was it some fourm of heresy ;) In fact GW event team took a photo of the first few shot, I done the rest & they all watch in shock & laughter that this epic event. I belive James failed one save being my Heavy Bolter, but since medic in there he past his feel no pain. So it was the old fashion way & the way I state it, close combat. My Rune Priest with his unit went right now & mange to deal the death blow. Overall the game was really really close & both of us have a really tough time taken out each other units. For James he try as much as possible to try take down my Land Speeder, but none got killed until the last turn. In the end I loss by one object. It was very close game with unit contesting, etc..... I belive if it went for another turn it could have ended in a solid draw. Brillaint game & again happy to battle a oppent I had before in past tournament. As James commented that he rememeber the name, like wise when I was talking to his Brother I rememeber right away that I fought James before. So after the game it was time for me to place my Space Wolves in the cabint for the Best army nominee's http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09104.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09105.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09106.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09107.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09110.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09111.jpg One unit take the weight of a whole army fire power http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09112.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09113.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09114.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09115.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09116.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09117.jpg Close combat was the way http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09118.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09119.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09124.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09125.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09126.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09128.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09129.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09130.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09132.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09133.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09134.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09136.jpg With the end of the game it was time to take my army up for nominee. Then grab some launch before the hall got busy & so I could try to take some photos. As the 40k double was mob & found it hard to get a decent look on the other people armies. Iron-Daemon Forge
After launch & army nominee where vote. It was time for the last & finial round for this Throne of Skulls GT. When I found out the table I was on, I was really really happy. My table was right next to the cabint my army was on display!!!!! How brillaint that so no rush or hurry or lateness to oppent table. It was pretty much turn around fro cabint & there was my gaming table. It's an honor to die at your side. It's an honor to have lived at yours. Round 5 Oppent - Andreas Cross Army - Luna Wolves useing codex Space Wolves Mission - Kill points, Pitch battle Army list - Wolf Lord, Rune Priest, 9 Wolf Guards, 3x 10 Grey Hunter, Vindacators, Land Speeder, Long Fangs. Andreas army was really cool, pre-heresy Luna Wolves. His Rune Priest was base upon a Thasound Sons as thank to my friend Graham McNeill & his novel Prospro Burn, it made a note how Thasound Sons use to send there Librarian/memeber of there Legion to the diffrent legion back when everone got on or that least tolerate one & other. Like wise his Wolf Guard where painted in Black. It was a great game & a good way to finish the weekend on a high. Andreas went first & once more a News from the Front note. His Long fangs fire into my unit of Speeder destroy one of there number, however the other one could not more or fire. Follow turn could not move or fire, turn 3, could not fire, turn 4, could not fire, turn 5 could not move or fire. I know how annoying this must be more so that this was kill points. Overall the game was great as both me & Andreas got into close combat from the go. Each unit battle there own close combat, tanks getting destroyed left right & center. Squads after squads where getting slaughter. Mark of Wulfen (two Chainsword arm models for Andreas) tear each other apart. In the end I won by 9 Kill points & Andreas got 5 Kill point. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09183.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09184.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09185.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09186.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09189.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09190.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09191.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09192.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09193.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09194.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09195.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09196.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09197.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09199.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09200.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09201.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09202.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09203.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09204.jpg Now finial post be Army nominee & view on the new Throne of Skulls Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227752-throne-of-skulls-april-2011/#findComment-2728322 Share on other sites
Iron-Daemon Forge
Throne of Skulls As everone know or that least in the UK, Throne of Skulls has change since last year. It cause a lot of heated talk on the fourms. For me, I will honsty say I enjoy Throne of Skulls. April ToS is easily in my top spot as best tournament I have been to ran by GW. When I say this I mean I am not included the local tournament I attend to, purely once that Games Workshop run. While GT 2006 was my worst one but that another story. Since the change & having attend Nov ToS. I had a good time that the Nov ToS, though I was not all that keen that we had to roll for mission. I felt that was a bad idea as a lot of people like me played the same mission or set up over, over & over again. For me it was Spearhead for time & not a single kill points. You need to let people play the mission even so that least one of each from the rule book have been played. However, the GW event team have listen to us who attended & hade made the changes. Overall I enjoy there five games as this has halp me & my friends out in the long run in term of travel. My friend commented yesterday how he felt a lot better than he did during the 40k double which we enjoy but where not back in Scotland until 2am. Like wise no more finial. I might hit a few sore points. But I think it good that we can now enter more than one GT. I hated it that 30 people would drop out of the finials & those ticket would not be past on. I enjoy attending tournament & there not been that many in Scotland. I want to battle new people & armies I rarely battle. For me it really easy to travel to Nottingham than it is to other place, some of this is due to my SPD a fourm of asperger & deslxyia where I get a bit stress going to new placies. Just overall I do not like people moan. For me I want to attend tournament, play new people, new armies or if same they do have diffrent play style. I want to see cool armies. It why I like going to tournament & why I join fourm. I want to enjoy the hobby for what it for, cool models. Not read all these moan topic about the hobby, it one of the few reason why we lost a few thing through out the hobby because people moan. But as said April Throne of Skulls was perfect. I enjoy it, it how I like tournament to be run. Enjoy all five games like Throne of Skull Nov. Oppent where brillaint, was good that no one held back. I like it that you can attend as many ToS as you wish. It mean I do not have to wait a year until next year GT. I met up with people from the Nov ToS & 40k double, even fought a few of them. Had great jokes, meet many new people & found out a few are going to the July ToS event so that good as I'll be going due to a family memeber wedding around then so make a small summer holiday. Allow me to try get some practise games vs people met during this one. Also barely any bad stuff happen though out the weekend there. Usely you hear a lot of horror stories. I think only one bad thing happen but it not for me to say as it just hearing it from other. So I would happily go again. I like the new Throne of Skulls set up. If like the weekend there I might be temp to enter more than two a year but depend money. But I will still go to two a year being April & Oct. Just July one a bonous due to a family memeber who live out side of Nottingham. Also great food during the GT. Somthing that was a bit of a issue for me back in Andy Joyce day where he made it all fance stuff, dispit having wrote a letter saying about some food issue that the suggestion of Andy since in 2006 there was not a single thing I could eat with out being unwell & in fact I was unwell on Sun moring due to the one thing I though I could eat. Just some stuff can make me really really unwell. I had no issue in Nov, 40k double or April. It been the best food I ever had since GT 2007. Really enjoy it & after round 1 & 4 I was really looking forward to lunch on both days during the weekend. Also having the Breakfast in Bugman bar.... I will defo be having that on Sat & Sun for sure, it was a really nice Bacon roll. Best army nominee Once again my Space Wolves where pick for the top x amount for Best armies which I was happy. As said I enjoy the hobby for the cool models & gaming, not the moan. I alway work hard on my Iron Warriors. But last year I really like the stuff from codex Space Wolves & when pick a army it alway about the conversion, painting & how it will play as I like getting into combat but with lot & lot of tanks. I really like the work Phil Kelly has done to codex Space Wolves. So much going for them, as seen else where I also have a Wolf Wing army done just that the start of the year which I really enjoy doing. I am even bring my Space Wolves up to 4500pts when it would normal be 1500pts & move onto a brand new army (though got Grey Knight on the go). So I been working hard since 2009 on my Space Wolves both models & army list. Been though Drop Pods, double Raider. Now got a list I enjoy. While models I done a lot of conversion. Adding trophies to make my army stand out & to honour great games I have had like the Nids base on my GW manger army & that also add contrat to my dark armour as well. A lot of new models since Nov, been due to new idea or because people break my models <_< But ToS was really great amount of people come up & talk to me about my Wolves & me exsplain what my Viking Rune ment. So overall my Space Wolves recond has been since there first tournament last year Sept, ELG - Counter Attack: Player Chose for best army Oct, Stirling Wargaming Club - Rapid Fire - 2nd Player Chose for best army Nov, Throne of Skulls Nov - top 10 Best army Nominee Feb, 40k Doubles - top 10 Best army Nominee April, Throne of Skull April - Top ? Best army Nominee For me, when ever I attend a tournament my goal has & alway will be the Best army. As said I like to convert armies & it good when talk to people about the idea or check other people armies. For me I have alway been a person for converting models & have done a NQ to HND model making course because of this. Just that where my skills lay. So it really good when you get nominee or win as you know your work pay off. So really happy to have my Wolves notice with in such a short time frame. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09208.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/army/DSC09142.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/army/DSC09137.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/army/DSC09138.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/army/DSC09139.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/army/DSC09178.jpg So again a brillaint weekend, best tournament. Had five brillaint oppents who I would happily be up for a re-match ether in tournaments or friendly games (I am in GW Falkirk or Stirling wargaming club if any of you's are looking for a match). Really great weekend & really happy to go. Overall I would recommend this to anyone & tournament in general as I find it unfair when a lot of people pick on them & the gamer who go as a whole, dispit those moan saying they never go anyway  I really be happy if July ToS is like this. Really enjoy the weekend, really enjoy useing my Wolves & battle really close fought games where no one hide from turn 1 to 4 & then claim object last round. It was all bitter fighting, no game was easy & nothing held back. I found ever single unit in my army had it work cut out & a few of my oppent commented about this that they had no units left out of the fight. Ever unit had it work cut out for them. So can not wait until July. Take my Wolves, be same army list as I like how it plays. I will also be that Gathering of the Clans tournament in Edinbrugh 11th June. So that it & happy to get my tournament report done & now full of energy. Just when starting the report I was still half a sleep having being woken up earily. Iron-Daemon Forge
<_< But oh well, there's always next time! Sorry never saw the reply there, mind been on auto drive. Yes thanks, happy to get nominee, like wise to met yourself. Are you going to any more Throne of Skulls in the futre, as said July for me & Oct. greatcrusade08 Posted Today, 12:14 PM youve got an amazing looking army there IP, youve done a great job. your right about the moan and whine, weve got a great hobby, people need to wake up and realise that. btw nice leonides quote, this pic is awesome also an extra cookie for the prince vultan quote.. dive hawkmen dive glad to see you had a good time, the UKGT is on my list of things to do, but its very expensive... next time gadget next time You go for the Ultramarine Meet up ;) I have to pay £120 on hotel since friend pay all fule & the £56 for the GT Ticket. Iron Father Rik
Are you going to any more Throne of Skulls in the futre, as said July for me & Oct. Yeah. October is the definate next tournament for myself and several of my friends (such as Eddie Eccles and Eoghainn Maclean). We are going as the Caledonian Deathwatch (shameless plug there), and we are all doing new armies for it - The Exorcists for me. I might be going to July too actually. I thought I couldn't go, but my plans for that time have changed now, so I should be free. I'll just be taking my Sons of Medusa again, albeit with a few tweaks (again) probably. Not happy with their performance this time round (perhaps they have been on the frontline too long) so I need a chance to make up for it! My little brother (aged 17) is going to be over from Singapore at that time too, so I might be taking him to his first tournament, which will be fun. Go for it, bring family let them go around Nottingham for the holidays. It a once in a while sort of thing. Captain Idaho done it, you can't let him be the only Ultramarine there  Next one Oct 1750pts ticket go on sale 6th July. Unsure what to take, really enjoy my Space Wolves, but I also like my Iron Warriors & would mark 10 years for them. So unsure right now. Then bring the Wolves back the following year, list will included Long Fangs, update a few of there models with new conversion to look like the eyes & ear of my strike force, scouting ahead & set up well place fire lane just before my mech force come into the field of battle. But July will be Space Wolves. Also got to convert up a Lone Wolf for Gathering of the Clans tournament in June as well. As said great event, ToS April has made it into the top spot for favrout tournament. Great games, great food, really great time, happy to get Nominee. Can't wait until July. Rik - Cool, just wanted to know who'll going to July ToS. As usely most like be as soon as I am there, there will be many people I will know & bump into. Be my first GT I am going down solo. Iron-Daemon Forge
Thanks. Ment to say keep a eye on this topic as I'll be update my post with "news from the front" like round 2. Just waiting on Games Workshop to post there report from the event. Just with Easter Holidays & this week seen a lot of bank holidays. Also there will be more for my Space Wolves in the near future. I have Gathering of the Clans tournament in June, Throne of Skulls July & much more stuff, along with this mean a lot of new models being made. Looking toward some Long Fangs right now & going to finial get my Lord done. Forgot to say Rob was second best Space Wolves player (Storm Crow), his friend Andy from round 3 was best Nids player & James from Round 4 ended up winning the best Dark Angels player award as well. Throne of Skulls has added in a best race along with the overall winner which I think great, allow many armies you'd not normal see in past tournaments. But yes keep a eye out for update to this once GW update there report from the April ToS event. As said to add in the "news from the front" for round 3, 4 & 5. Iron-Daemon Forge
Congrats on best army nomination! from the looks of your wolves you deserved it... If your ever in GW glasgow maybe I'll get to see those wolves on the table top. Oh and nice reports, looks like you had a lot of fun, which is what its all about. Thanks, the army has been hard that work as I start my force back in 2009 when the codex was release. Been though a lot of army list from Drop Pods, double Raider & Bjorn led Mech to the list it is today. While model wise been though a lot to try make them into the force they are today in term of converting & painting. Also with a lot of new relreease like Grey Knights, Dark Eldar & Blood Angels Death Company with tons of cool bits. Sorry, not been to GW Glasgow for some years now. 2007 was the last time I set foot in the store, by look of it thing have change since those days which is great. I go to a diffrent GW being in Falkirk since 2007, have a lot of good friends there who also attend tournaments with me from the Games Workshop once like Throne of Skulls or local once like ELG/Stirling wargaming Rapid Fire & the manger help me out a lot in regard to me strength in the hobby. Like wise some time pop up to GW Edinbrugh to catch up with friends as I use to work part time back in 2008. Iron-Daemon Forge
The GW Throne of Skulls April report is now on there web site which you can see here http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...p?aId=16400015a Also forgotten to add a bit on my Space Wolves model & painting wise/theme My Space Wolves are themed around saving the planet Asgard VII Prime where all sorts of crazy stuff is going on (my background for the UK Throne of Skulls should explain this). My force is a highly mobile force (I just like mobility warfare to be honest) which is able to reach any battle zone as soon as possible, have a lot of Purity seal, runes & honour markings. As you will notice my Space Wolves have Black Helmets. I wanted this to be an honour marking toward the Space Wolves Gate of Morkai to show that they fear no death like any good Space Marine, but being Wolves this has a bigger meaning & is a bit more personal. I also have an army badge on all the left knee pads which is a red strip with the Squad icon/rune upon them. I have also painted on some blue Viking runes to act as my Spot colour. As you will notice I went for a Darker Grey armour over the usually light blue-ish grey colour. The Viking runes are meant not to overtake the models, but help add that brightness & contrast to draw in people’s attention. Also I put some hidden messages in my Wolf Standards in Viking writing like “get it around you” & “so’s your face”, it is just a bit of banter! I did this on my Iron Warrior force with Chaos Runes, but they are a bit to rude to repeat. With the darker armour I painted my Space Wolves with Adeptus Battle Grey, making sure to leave the gaps in the armour joints black, then I gave the whole model (along with the detail like ammo pockets & knives) a wash of Badab Black. Once this had dried I would highlight the model with Codex Grey. Then I would the highlight the sharp edges, like the edge of the armour plates with Fortress Grey. Again with the armour being a bit darker, this is to help bring a bit more attention to the model from the onlooker during a tournament. Overall I am just not a fan of bright colours & I believe my local GW Manager is trying to dare me to paint an Imperial Fist army next. For my Rune Priest conversion, I chose to loosely base my idea around the 2nd Ed codex Wolves art work on Njal Stormcaller. I wanted to pose him to show he is casting Jaws of the World Wolf or Living Lighting. While his Chooser of Slain is a Servo Skull which I scratch built. The Raven Models I saw on the GW site, lacked detail & did not have that stand out factor to me, while the Servo Skulls, I have made many in the past for my Iron Warriors force, stand out & add another focus point. For the Mark of Wulfen. I went for shield over any tattoos or different helmets. This was purely done to make life easy during a game. As in the heat of battle, you will forget or pick up the wrong model by mistake & only notice when it is too late, more so when you’re playing your army in the undercoat stage or shiny model stage. Also I like the art work of the Lone Wolf, I thought it would be cool to have that but as part of a unit. I use the old Beastman shield & glue on the Rune stone, as a mark of honour for fallen squad members. You get these on the current SW Pack set. I added some purity seals to represent their faith. While for the Dreadnought I have always been a fan of Dreadnoughts, in fact they pretty much been in all Marine armies I have collected in the past. For my Space Wolves, I went for a mix between normal & Venerable Dreadnought. This was more down to the pose, as the Venerable Dreadnought gives you a bit more freedom with the head, allowing you to make him a lot scarier than he is. Normal Dreadnought bits were used to tone down the Venerable look as in my list they are just your normal bog standard Dreadnought You will also notice Legion of the Damned Space Marine in the above photos. These are my object marker To be honest I have always been a big fan of the Legion of the Damned models since they were first released all those long years ago (can’t believe 14years have passed since I started the hobby). With the release of the current ones, I wanted to include these into my Space Wolves force, I did not care how, I just wanted to have some in. But sadly Space Wolves cannot take Legion of the Damned as a unit for gaming reasons. So the next best thing was to use them as Object Markers. I saw an old art work on the GW web site that had two Legion of the Damned save a Blood Angel trooper from a horde of Orks. This added into my background, which is base on a planet called Asgard Prim VII which my Space Wolves are current on a campaign. As said above the world has got a lot of crazy stuff going on, that draws all the foes of the Imperial & cover Asgard VII Prime into a shadow of chaos & despair. It also helps when playing missions so people do not get confuse, they know they are object markers.
