Iron-Daemon Forge
Hi everone Throne of Skulls tournament in Warhammer World Nottingham was during the weekend there. Many epic tales where to be told & to got into saga's & many great games & battle where to be had. A exsample is Round 3 I fought Nids, Rothgar my Lascannon arm Dreadnought took 20ish penatrate hit from Hive Guard shooting to close combat with Genestealer.... ever result is 1's!!!! He live!!! but was not able to fire the whole game!!! I had many people tell me drop the Dreadnoughts though out the year, but I keep them in because they can hold up Incubie, Bloodcrusher & for army looking point of view they add a focuse point & I general like having Dreadnoughts in my Marines because there cool models. To be honsty though out the tournament I only lost both in one game & maybe one of the two in another. But they done there job & end of the day it how you use the army. So that has made it into News from the front which is a new thing GW are try out in there tournament. Basicly stuff that stand out in games that are really epic or should never happen but they do like a Grot winning combat vs Thunder Hammer terminators for exsample. The rest I'll leave for my battle report. As my Space Wolves made it in the news on the front in four out of the five games!! Like wise both myself & Spikyjames where up for army nominee. Sadily I never mange to get the time to get both of our armies together, but a lot of photos where taken. I'm slow recover as it was pretty much leave after the event & it was a 6 hour drive back home. Like wise I have lot of photos being uploaded, tournament report currently being done & just finish round 1. Here my army http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09002.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09003.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09004.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09005.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09006.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09208.jpg Also my friend won overall with Sister of Battle on the gaming front. He was just happy with best Sister of Battle player as well, jaw did pretty much hit the ground. He got his Best Sister of Battle player award, walk down & then call back as the overall winner. He was stun for a good 5 min woundering if he heard right. All you can hear is me & my other friend laught out really loud. But he done well & is a brillaint player http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/ToS%20April/DSC09207.jpg As said getting photos uploaded. Spikyjames SW will be up soon both set up when getting judge & then when we had our armies on for Nominee's. Like wise if James see this, thanks for the Scouts. Firenze
Yay! It proves that old codexs are amazing still! Maybe my Tau could win one day... I love your Razorspam SW though. Marshal Wilhelm
Pics or it didn't happen! Anyway, yeah Dreads will protect your grunts from bullies if you protect them from Monsters. Nice to see something out of fashion getting game time. Interesting to see the Sisters do so well. Do you have a list for them? Yay! It proves that old codexs are amazing still! Maybe my Tau could win one day... I love your Razorspam SW though. Some excellent conversions in it. Have you taken Tau to tourneys? Iron Father Rik
I posted this in your other thread, but since it's pretty much the same reply as I would post here, I thought I'd just copy and paste it here, so sorry for the duplication. Hi Jamie! Congratulations on your award, and the trophy that your mate earned! I didn't get a chance to see his army, or witness it in action, but I love that Sisters of Battle won the tournament! His margin of victory was quite astounding too! It was good to see you at the GT there, and glad you had a good time. Congratulations on the best painted nomination! I totally agree with you about the quality of the tournament. The Throne of Skulls really is a great tournament, and has something to suit absaloutely everyone! People can't complain about it unless they have been there and tried it for themselves. Unfortunately this tournament wasn't the best for me. A combination of horrendous luck sometimes, and a couple of stupid mistakes by me meant my record was awful this time round with my Sons of Medusa (certainly not worthy of the second place they ranked back in November!). My games were quite fun, but none were really the best I've ever played. The last one was far too short and rather dull, over in less than an hour with a 2-1 kill point total at the end. dry.gif But oh well, there's always next time! It was great to meet up with some of the other B&C guys who I have never met. You of course, Insane Psychopath (who I have met before), and myself and my friend Iain (Chaplain Admetus) got chatting to Captain Idaho and a couple of others a bit, so a big hello and thank to you all! Also, well done to Iain - aka Chaplain Admetus - who came second in the Blood Angels at his first ever GT, losing the top spot by virtue of one "favourite opponent" vote! Iron-Daemon Forge
Let leave it. I ment this topic to be about nominee with me & Spikyjames since a memeber has ask to see both out armies together not if people enjoy ToS or not. I posted my friend winning the event because I am happy for him & the hard work he has put into his army over the years to make them a great force as they are today. MaveriK wanting to see both our armies together I would love to see an allied Great Company battle of DV8's SW's with Spikey James's SW's against "Insert any other army here". Fantastic stuff. I would love to see DV8's SW's with Spikey James's SW's, Insane Psychopath's wolves, with Wolf Lord Mjolnir, Levitas, and littlbitz's wolves all on the table!!! haha @Insane Psychopath, Sweet! and good luck on the tournament. Your battle reports are always a treat for us here at the Fang, so don't ever stop doing them! I'm also looking forward to your updated pictures. BTW you two are like top-tier Wolves in my book. Two guys with mad skills with both gameplay, painting and conversions. As mentioned from the above quote, I'd love to see your armies side by side! maybe even have my completed warband, fight along side yours in the future. --EDIT-- C & C are welcomed. Thank you for looking! So let leave the hate/like of ToS out of this. I enjoy the weekend, best tournament I been to, I will go again. That all that matter to me. Again ment this topic because a few people have ask about few memeber join Space Wolves army. I was arrange to have my army set up with Spiky james but time was against us on Fri & Sat. So next best thing was to get our armies when they where up for Nominee. Iron-Daemon Forge
Just to point out my friend Graham (Sister of Battle player who won) had four wins out of five games, everone else who where also on the top tables also had 4 wins & a loss. But like I said this topic is ment to show me & spikyjames Space Wolves since a memeber request in another topic to see both of our armies for idea, etc... Don't want this topic going off into a like/hate. So please leave it that this. MaveriK
I love the look of the two different SW armies! especially since both are of a darker color scheme, while still maintaining a different look from one another. To some people, the grey-grey look can seem boring or even easy to accomplish, but in truth and in application.. it's not that easy to pull off. Spikey's wolves are amazing, clean and noble looking. While Insane Psychopath's look more primal, raw and savage. Both equally representing the independent nature of our chapter, and still equally pull off the professional look in their models. Damn I hate you guys for setting the standards high haha jk. Iron-Daemon Forge
Thing is we also use the same colour, Adpetus Battle Grey, codex Grey Highlight, Fotress Grey. Unsure if Spiky use Badab Black wash & if so if it water down as he has a lighter tone than mine. Need to check out his post on here/warseer or hopeful he can post on here. Also yes it not easy for those shade of Grey. Had a gamer that my club try copy my Wolves & just look a little off & just whole contrast to there models. It was wired, if James won his first game I would have ended up battle against him. Like wise he was ether on the table behind me or a table just a little bit ahead. Also look like some new SW will be added in the future. Have to bring my army down to 1400pts for a tournament :( (1500pts & above for me, hate small games, but want to support this event in the hope it get bigger). So mean having to drop one of my Dreadnoughts :( & going to try out a Lighting Claw arm Lone Wolf. Only thing for 60pts & just alway want to try a lone wolf, but he will not be replace Rothgar the Skald any time since in my 1500pts. As said I like useing my Dreadnought. Be a one off for this tournament & for big games. Like wise got those Scouts spiky james give me to get built as a just to have unit. Then unsure right now, might start working on some new models for my Wolf Wing. Still got my new Grey Knights to finish up. Anyway you can see my report here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=227752 Not a single easy game. Fought two people won best of there race who also rank pretty high, one who came second (69 Space Wolves :D ) who also rank high. Great event & really enjoy it, easily top tournament I attended follow by UKGT 2005, 2007 & 2004 I'd guess. While 2006 is alway going to be my bottem one but that another story. But it was cool. Ever single Space Wolves player there, all there armour where diffrent shade of grey, the way they painted them, some where dry brush or layer on, etc.... No two Space Wolves armies where the same & that gose for our army list as well. Great weekend & many epic tales. Now just need GW to hurry with there web site to see my photo for army nominee & to see if the photo against Deathwing terminators be up, check report out to find out........ Also GW event team took photo of that & saw the whole thing, ever shot & not one dead  It also pretty cool how each of my models live up to there sagas. Like Wolf Guard Rethel make ever save against all odds, he done really well though out the tournament when it matter. No units in any game where left out, ever single one had there work cut out for them. the jeske
was the change to scoring in ToS [ knowing how do they make the second and third round pairs , would be nice too] ever posted somewhere and how many players did it have this year . Firenze
When is the next ToS? It is tempting to bring either my lost/13th company force (when I get some damn tanks) or my tau. I remember back in the days it was one of the larger ones. Gratz to all of course They didn't change the scoring at the weekend there compared to how they did it in November and January if that's what you mean. What they did do was definately seed us at every round, pairing up competitors on the same scores as each other each round, and they posted up the scores for everyone to see. They also seemed to have paired up like-for-like races in the second round, for example Blood Angle vs Blood Angel, Space Marine vs Space Marine, Eldar vs Eldar, etc, as far as possible. At least that's what seemed to happen to everyone I talked to. Marshal Wilhelm
Pics or it didn't happen! Interesting to see the Sisters do so well. Do you have a list for them? Pics?? I'll check out the Sisters forum for his list I love the look of the two different SW armies! especially since both are of a darker color scheme, while still maintaining a different look from one another. Damn I hate you guys for setting the standards high haha jk. My oldest brother actually prefers blue-grey because he thinks it is easier to paint, in theory, than the grey-grey. You can shade and so on, more easily in colour, than you can when you are painting black or grey or white. Interesting that people think grey-grey would be easier.... +++ So does Spiky have a painted army online? I would really have to improve my painting to even think of competing with these armies. July the 16th & 17th. Ticket are on sale now on the GW web site. 13th Company all the way, great fun going into your oppent army & both kicking each other face in, in bitter close combat!! As my round 3 oppent Andy said, ever unit was in use, nothing was left out. This was true, my baby sitting Grey Hunter unit saw just as much & fought as hard as any of the other Grey hunter units though out the weekend. Where in practise games a fair few of the times they have been sitting there waiting for Russ to show up for the end battle  Then the next one is Oct which will be going up in points to 1750pts, 15th & 16th Oct. I'm going to July due to a family memeber who live out side of Nottingham wedding being around that time so mean I can also attend ToS. Then Oct going to be one of the permint (sp) along with April for Throne of Skulls per year. July just a one off for me right now. It was just on a joke on an internet meme You obviously have played at the tourney, but in effect I said "prove it". I was just being silly I only played a one day tournament less than an hour from home and was wrecked, so I understand you'd be even more tuckered out. Yep two days of gaming in the tournament & not one single game was easy, as said there ever unit had it work cut out. Follow by Fri night game with friends, Thur night gaming that my club as well. That a total of 8 games in the space of four days, with a total of 12 hour worth of travel from my home down to Nottingham & back. Then the usely banter in Warhammer World on the Fri & then Sat, Sat having the great Bugman Bar pub quiz which is alway great, social. Me & my friend Scott team up with my oppent Rob from round 2 & Andy from Round 3 along with a Imperial Guard army who had loss his first game by one kill point (1-0) which has been a great story though out the weekend, he took that game in great spirt & alway laught when people brought it up. But overall happy to have Nominee for my Space Wolves again. Third event since Nov Throne of Skulls. This is by far best tournament. Might make one new model before ToS July Just new conversion idea I have. Also as said I'll be building a Lone Wolf for a tournament come up in June. Then later in the year I have a big 4500pts game vs Tau arrange for Oct, so rely upon some really cool FW stuff being release for Armour 11, some new Wolf Guards with Wolf Claws. Also hope Thunder Wolves are release later this year as this would help me a lot. Also though be worth putting a note on my Space Wolves for people to see why some thing are done. Like Black Helmets or Legion of the Damned Object markers. My Space Wolves are themed around saving the planet Asgard VII Prime where all sorts of crazy stuff is going on (my background for the UK Throne of Skulls should explain this). My force is a highly mobile force (I just like mobility warfare to be honest) which is able to reach any battle zone as soon as possible, have a lot of Purity seal, runes & honour markings. As you will notice my Space Wolves have Black Helmets. I wanted this to be an honour marking toward the Space Wolves Gate of Morkai to show that they fear no death like any good Space Marine, but being Wolves this has a bigger meaning & is a bit more personal. I also have an army badge on all the left knee pads which is a red strip with the Squad icon/rune upon them. I have also painted on some blue Viking runes to act as my Spot colour. As you will notice I went for a Darker Grey armour over the usually light blue-ish grey colour. The Viking runes are meant not to overtake the models, but help add that brightness & contrast to draw in people’s attention. Also I put some hidden messages in my Wolf Standards in Viking writing like “get it around you” & “so’s your face”, it is just a bit of banter! I did this on my Iron Warrior force with Chaos Runes, but they are a bit to rude to repeat. With the darker armour I painted my Space Wolves with Adeptus Battle Grey, making sure to leave the gaps in the armour joints black, then I gave the whole model (along with the detail like ammo pockets & knives) a wash of Badab Black. Once this had dried I would highlight the model with Codex Grey. Then I would the highlight the sharp edges, like the edge of the armour plates with Fortress Grey. Again with the armour being a bit darker, this is to help bring a bit more attention to the model from the onlooker during a tournament. Overall I am just not a fan of bright colours & I believe my local GW Manager is trying to dare me to paint an Imperial Fist army next. For my Rune Priest conversion, I chose to loosely base my idea around the 2nd Ed codex Wolves art work on Njal Stormcaller. I wanted to pose him to show he is casting Jaws of the World Wolf or Living Lighting. While his Chooser of Slain is a Servo Skull which I scratch built. The Raven Models I saw on the GW site, lacked detail & did not have that stand out factor to me, while the Servo Skulls, I have made many in the past for my Iron Warriors force, stand out & add another focus point. For the Mark of Wulfen. I went for shield over any tattoos or different helmets. This was purely done to make life easy during a game. As in the heat of battle, you will forget or pick up the wrong model by mistake & only notice when it is too late, more so when you’re playing your army in the undercoat stage or shiny model stage. Also I like the art work of the Lone Wolf, I thought it would be cool to have that but as part of a unit. I use the old Beastman shield & glue on the Rune stone, as a mark of honour for fallen squad members. You get these on the current SW Pack set. I added some purity seals to represent their faith. While for the Dreadnought I have always been a fan of Dreadnoughts, in fact they pretty much been in all Marine armies I have collected in the past. For my Space Wolves, I went for a mix between normal & Venerable Dreadnought. This was more down to the pose, as the Venerable Dreadnought gives you a bit more freedom with the head, allowing you to make him a lot scarier than he is. Normal Dreadnought bits were used to tone down the Venerable look as in my list they are just your normal bog standard Dreadnought You will also notice Legion of the Damned Space Marine in the above photos. These are my object marker To be honest I have always been a big fan of the Legion of the Damned models since they were first released all those long years ago (can’t believe 14years have passed since I started the hobby). With the release of the current ones, I wanted to include these into my Space Wolves force, I did not care how, I just wanted to have some in. But sadly Space Wolves cannot take Legion of the Damned as a unit for gaming reasons. So the next best thing was to use them as Object Markers. I saw an old art work on the GW web site that had two Legion of the Damned save a Blood Angel trooper from a horde of Orks. This added into my background, which is base on a planet called Asgard Prim VII which my Space Wolves are current on a campaign. As said above the world has got a lot of crazy stuff going on, that draws all the foes of the Imperial & cover Asgard VII Prime into a shadow of chaos & despair. It also helps when playing missions so people do not get confuse, they know they are object markers. the jeske
They didn't change the scoring at the weekend there compared to how they did it in November and January if that's what you mean. At least that's what seemed to happen to everyone I talked to. thanks for the info . I forgot they changed the format from what it used to be a few years ago. Expert level of game play skills by many players not just the SoB from what I heard. MaveriK
Iron-Daemon Forge
Though I would post this here instead of a new topic. While I wait for GW to update the web site with there Throne of Skulls 40k April report. My Space Wolves have not been resting since the event, last week my store ran a army painting comp with a 16+ & a under 16. For the 16+ it was very close between me & my painting rivial, I won by one more vote than him, in total there was over 24? to 30?. Sadily can not post photos of his army as they are heretic, a army use magic & that are walking Beast, men who turn into Beast, Beastmen that are not part of the 40k range, nor are they part of the power armour range which make this fourm stand out among other or same for any fourm focuse on one army or part of the hobby. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/DSC09236.jpg We had to set up the models on a 2 by 2 foot bit of the game table. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/DSC09222.jpg Also I been hard that work between my new Grey Knights force & some add on to my Wolves. - One new Legion of the Damned Object marker. Pretty much new idea hit me one day, it just been made & I am pretty happy with how it turn out. Hopeful get some WIP photos soon. Hope to get this ready for Gathering of the Clans tournament which is next month. - A new Wolf Standard model for one of my Grey Hunter, but this will be done near Throne of Skulls July tournament - Two brand new unit of Long Fangs. Throne of Skulls Oct is going up in points, from 1500pts to 1750pts here in the UK. A lot of my friends are now gear up for this & want to try get as many games to this point leval. For me as long as it is not below 1500pts then I am happy. I hate small games, apart from double tournament we will not included this. But I hate small games like 40k in 40min. For me it 1500pts & above. Anyway the new Long Fangs, got lot of idea for them. Have two test painted/part of one of the units done & just building a third. Just waiting on some bits & need to mail order a 3rd ed Space Wolves spure for the bodies. Also thanks to a local wargaming event here, I mange to pick up a lot of spare bits I need. One of these is 28 Mk7 Helmet for a mere £3 :geek: As well as a fair few of the 3rd ed era bare heads I use. Once my Chaos Battle Fleet Gothic stuff arrive, hopeful Mon. I'll try get some photos. Chaos BFG stuff, as well as to add onto my IW fleet (BFG my all time favrout game out side of 40k, along with Space Hulk), there a few bits I want to use on my Wolves for conversion. Want them to sort of be the eyes & ear for my strike force. Where veteran, they are wise & skilled, able to stealth even with there heavy weapons. Alway going off on pack hunts. Though my Long Fangs are for Oct, as said people around here who are going to attend ToS with myself are trying out there 1750pts. But not only that, I want this unit to be here for armies on parade that Games Workshop are holding for this year Golden Daemon. So next week I'll be working on my table. I might show preview or the odd WIP photo, but this one been kept under lock & key. All I can say is it great I'll be able to mix in my hobby & the skills I learnt during my NQ to HND Model Making course that I done in college from 2005 to 2008, along with a few of the model making work experince I had during the years. So Armies on Parade is ment for me as it where after doing that college course ^_^ While tournament wise, as said I have Gathering of the Clans in Edinbrugh on the 11th of June, then Throne of Skulls July for the time being.
