Grey Mage
Yeah, they have access to vendreads in the elite slot- but a suped up Dreadknight is running more than a full strike squad, and vendreads start out expensive. Its less a matter of slots and more a matter of points. Grimtooth
That is what I thought. I don't like DK at all. They are not in my list at all and instead I go with the set of rifledreads. Which I think with the proper placement of rhinos, would fair much better against Long Fangs. I picture Long Fangs in cover along the same lines as a TDA unit. Sure the low AP crap is awesome, but massed fire causes mass saves which invariably lead to casualties. Grey Mage
Quad-Dread Pros: Can move and shoot. Can ignore S5 and below. Can ignore most glancing hits with a psychic test. Cons: Middling AP, more expensive, can die to a single shot of S7+, harder to get a cover save for. *shrugs* Its certainly not a bad unit for its price, and itll probly be a staple in GK lists to come. Right now its not popping up as much as it might because people havent gotten the conversions done. KnowThyEnemy
yea its hard to say no to 4 twinlinked S8 shots. Start adding in multiples (messes with target selection of course) and it can get nasty quick. 3 psyrifle dreads and a vindicare is 550 pts. not too shabby for what it can do given the chance. add in 2 ven psyrifle dreads for a total of 940 pts :P. still leaves you half the points for troops and an HQ (3-4 Strike squads/terms and a GM?) Inquisitor Fox
Not to mention the Reinforced Aegis. Improved psychic protection AND the ability to destroy most vehicles at long range? Yes please, I'll take two... you got a BOGO or Buy 2 get one free offer on that? Almost makes me wonder if they're trying to sell more Dreadnoughts or something :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227857-grey-knight-fever/page/4/#findComment-2732215 Share on other sites
KnowThyEnemy
ha well they've already gotten me for 5 (2 regular, 2 vens and a librarian Death Watch one). I'm doing my part to cleanse the heretics :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227857-grey-knight-fever/page/4/#findComment-2732353 Share on other sites
Daedalus Templarius
I had one in a game the other day that reaped a deadly toll on the IG player I was fighting. Popped 4 chimeras in as many turns. Bringing 2 next time :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227857-grey-knight-fever/page/4/#findComment-2732357 Share on other sites
Grimtooth
Yea, I am pretty much of the opinion that it is a mandatory 3 selection. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/227857-grey-knight-fever/page/4/#findComment-2732745 Share on other sites
Brother Captain Kezef
I prefer Psycannon spam, less range but better at cracking heavy armour. AC's will only ever glance AV14 but psycannons will mostly penetrate on those 6's. I think a mix is very much in order, a couple of psyflemen go a long way to cover the only weakness of psycannon reliant lists i.e. range. Gives you something to punish sodpots like dark eldar for trying to stay out of that magic 24" (or 30" with those dammned raider/venom upgrades (forget the name). It also lets you start picking appart units that pose a serious threat to your troops (i.e. ap1 & 2) right from the beginning, forcing your enemy to split fire priority. The vindicare works wonders for this, even if you only snipe a couple of plasmaguns it can make all the difference to troops that can take just about anything else with reasonable grace. I tend to run deep strike liss so the range isn't a huge deal for me. But I agree with the Vindi, trying to place it in all my lists these days.
