Clock is ticking for the GT and I just found out I have to base my bikes ... mandatory!

So last night I sculpted some and today I did the first resin cast.

The 60mm was tought for dreads and speeders...and when I placed the AB...I'm not very hapy with how it looks:

Should I sand the high rocks or do you guys think it looks ok?

Thanks for the comments!

It does look a bit odd as it is I guess. One way to remedy it other than sanding off the rocks, is to put a spacer under the centre of the bike for the all-wheels-off-the-ground-burning-rubber-flying-hell-for-leather look. Or just raise the front wheel a bit to show the AB speeding and rearing up and over the rocks.

Definitely shave the rocks down. They should look more like flagstones instead of the dangerous terrain it looks like now. I can almost feel the gunner bracing as the bike is about to hit a rock - Hard.

It needs to be more roadlike with less savage speed bumps in it.

Laughed out loud and the missus looked at me like Im crazy...

Im actually liking the idea of bouncing from the rocks and the gunner thinking "why dont I every get a decent road...how am I supposed to aaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiimmmmmmmm?"

Ill give it a dry fitting test tomorrow with the solution Isiah suggested and Ill let you guys know how it turns out. Shaving would be a pain, but long live rotatory power tools!

Thanks for the speedy replies.

Ok, here is the final setup... I need to decide this afternoon, because I have 2.5 days and 4 AB, 15 bikes, 3 LS and Sammy only base coated...

So...

A) The turboboosting stand

:) On the rocks

C) Man, just get painting and stop asking!!!!

Thanks!

If you only have 2.5 days, I'd say just get to painting, you can always adjust the bases later. That said, I think you could put the bikes in various stages of "boosting", some jumping, some landing tilted, some just lifting off with the front wheel up, etc.

Bryan, what do you think Im doing while I wait for you comments? :(

Right now Ive redone all the black parts in the bikes and keep on casting bike bases. Now the compressor overheated, so I think Ill start sanding some bases and try my hand at painting lava...this better turn out easy.

I screwed up srripping Sammy on monday...I had one of those "this is worthless" moments and threw him into alcohol...only to realize 1 hour later that he was already TT and 3 colours...no piece of art, but at least he was done...sigh...rash just like in the battlefield.

BTW, I was also think of different stages of turboing...thing is its gonna end up looking like these guys are doing the Dakkar.

Anyway, off to try painting lava...hopefully back in a couple hours with some picks...and comments to read!

Thanks!

Ok, here are the results... sorry for the poor lightning:

And for Froz, here is how I magnetize them:

Thanks for the comments and help ;)

Coming along nicely. May I ask how you have the land speeder staying on that base? I was thinking about using them instead of flying bases myself. I have so many corks laying around, I might just carve out a pillar of some sort for the speeder to sit on, I'm just at a loss of how to best make it removable (aside from magnets of course).

EDIT - actually, I think I see that you use the pole from a regular flying base, correct?

Negative...its one of my secrets ;)

But since youre a nice guy, Ill take your soul as payment...for this time :)

You know when women (granmas usually) go to the hairdresser and they get those cilindric things stuck on their hair so it gets a shape? Well, they are held in place by plastic sticks. Did I mention my missus is hairdresser? :P

If my explanation is lacking, tell me and Ill post a pic. They are dirty cheap.

That's fine, it doesn't get much use anyway...

I'm thinking you are talking about a hair curler thing. Like these?

By the way, the expression in English is "dirt cheap" as in cheap as dirt. I know it's your second language, so I'll forgive you... just this once :P

The plastic rods that hold them in place.

And yes, "asquerosamente baratos".

Ill get a pic later, now Im off to build some more bikes. Ill throw in a surprise, related to the thread...

Hahaha... My computer translated that to revoltingly cheap. I'd say that's even cheaper than dirt. I'll be in Spain this summer, I'll have to remember to look for the asquerosamente baratos deals.

Plastic rods must be bobby pins. I'd be interested to see how you make them work - my wife has plenty of those.

Can't wait to see the surprise.

Ok, first the surprise:

Here is how the bike bases look.

And a pic of the hair thing..

If you drop by Barcelona or within 50 km, let me know and we can have a beer if you want ;)

Ah ha! Plastic hair pin thingies. I wonder how well the Land speeders will stand on 40mm bases?

A most gracious offer, still 3 months to go though, but we will be in Barcelona for a few days - we are flying in there. I am very excited. Our last European trip was Belgium, which I miss every day - mostly because of my love of beer.
