Making a Death Company as dynamic as possible

Cool, I'll have to try it. I just finished my next 5 DC and the poses are the best I've done yet, I'll have to get some pics up of them before I paint them so I can get a WIP thing going on, I'll just jack this thread for it.

What's the best way to get pics on here, photobucket or something?

It seems I've forgotten something for my DC squad, they don't have a Chapalin to lead them! Now I've got Lemartes, but taking him for a shooty DC squad just seems like a waste, he wont be able to use his jump pack when tied to a squad without. So looking through my bits box I came up with this:

He needs a little work where his pose is considered, but all-in-all I think he'll make a great chaplain. The crozius was made from a DC chainsword handle, a Power axe shaft, and the head is made from the banner pole top from the AoBR commander.

Nice work on the crozius conversion.. I think he looks at the moment just like another DC marine but I'm sure you'll bring the character of the model more to life when you paint him.

I think he will look great with some paint on him. He will look the part of the chaplain if you paint the helmet like a skull. Morticon had some friend that did this. I don't know the guy's name but I remember looking at the DC with the skull faces and thinking that I needed to steal it but I haven't yet. Nice model by the way.

Needs some touch up work, but I've been painting this one all day between homework.

Yeah man, that's what I'm talking about, knew you would bring him to life!

I really like the model and paintjob but he seems kind of static when you've been trying to up the dynamism of the rank and file troopers.

@JBW: Over black I tend to make my paint a little thicker than I normally would. It's chaos black eve a flat black spray, so that helps a little, then once I'm done painting I use a little gloss on the blood drops to make them pop out a little more.

@Mykra: He does look like he's just standing there, but I was out of running legs for the DC, and those were the DC legs that fit him the best.

So here we go, the entire Death Company so far!

So, are you using GW Mechrite? and how do you make your paints thicker? I ususally leave mine open for a couple hours. Are you doing the same for the whites? Thanks for the tips!

To start with I wanted to go outside the bits just in the DC box; I had a power fist left over from the Space Marine Commander that I really though would look great for this. Since he is spec'd for close combat I wanted it to look as if he'd already tasted some fighting both figuratively and literally.

Ah yeah man, I :cussing love that, ha,ha. That's so good man, two fists and mouth full of blood.

Does the two fists change his attacks and stuff? Like is two fists legal even?

I'm gonna have to do that myself, maybe with a RAS sarg if ts aloud.

Two power fists is legal but very expensive, +50 pts (more than a Thunder Hammer). I don't think I'd ever use him in a game, other than in a huge army where the extra cost of the fist is practically negligible. Basically I was just going for making a really cool looking model, pretty sure I succeeded there.

There will be more DC coming up later as I finish more.

Kind of a change of topic, I know it'd never be worth it, but has anyone ever painted DC scouts?

Not sure what I was going for here originally, but I like how it turned out.

Maybe change the color of the other chain sword blade to black so the red on the teeth looks like blood rather than spots that I just forgot to paint.

Brother Furion, Death Company dreadnaught, is pretty much complete. Just waiting for a little something to arrive in the mail to make it look that little bit better.

I'm really liking those, good neat paintjob.

One thing to look at for your next batch is maybe removing the mouldlines from the minis before you basecoat them - it will make a big difference to how they look when they're finished.

Have a look at OMG's thread here, it's a good starting guide to help take your modelling forward.

Thanks for the support Brother Jazzman.

...removing the mouldlines from the minis before you basecoat them

This has kind of been left on the back burner by me for some time. I figure now that I have the a solid idea of how I want to paint my army set down this should be the next step. What do people often use to get rid of mouldlines?

Edit: Quick sidebar. if anyone would like to, feel free to threadjack show off their own dynamic Death Company poses. That IS why I started it.
