Lone Wolf +wip+

Wulfebane

Recommended Posts

Due to MaveriK's inspiration, I've finally gotten around to starting my lone wolf project dedicated to Mav and his impressive rendition of Jormungndr Two-blade of the Vlka Fenryka.

There's plenty of stuff left to do/add/remove, etc but I've been working on him for a few days now and was itching to post something.

That's one of the things still to do. It won't have rounded edges and will act more like a vest that trails into a cloak. Just couldn't do anything more with it tonight til the GS cures, making it less pliable... I have a tendency to absently squash sculpted GS with my fingers b/c I'm turning the model all around.

Also, can't decide whether or not to sculpt a snout to the helm, or add a more wolf priest-y skull to it, or chop it off entirely and find a suitable bare head... Been focused more on the pose for the moment.

Very cool conversion. Looks awesome. Might be the best pose I've seen on this site.

not trying to take away from the OP, but I wouldn't say that Grim, maybe it's one of, the best poses on this site.. and not just the best pose on this site. To be fair and politically correct, I can honestly think of several users on here, like DV8, Insane, stinken(something?), Levitas, Lord Azoth, and including my other half. And not to mention there are plenty of talented people outside of the fang, that pose their models very dynamic, on Works in Progress

Anyway, back to the OP. Very nice take! it looks cool. I like it, and look forward to seeing it painted. Nice job on the green-stuff sculpting, it's very professional looking! I guess all those art lessons you've mentioned, that I've read before helped hey? How does he look like without the fur cape? and what made you decide on the cape?

Perhaps I should have said it's "my favorite" pose on this site.

Either way, it still kicks a$$.

LOL I was just teasing, had a long night shift at the hospital.. so humor me. A little off topic here, and I'm sorry for that! I understand you have a store Grim? ever consider doing a Space Wolf meet for Space Wolf players in the east coast? I understand/hear that Ultramarines do so in Europe all the time, why couldn't Wolves? Anyway, just an idea.

---edit---

why shouldn't wolves have their own meet? anyway........okay, I'm going to bed now! I'm tired. I hope that model is painted when I wake up! LOL jk

LOL. I had thought about it, but I've already sold the store I'm afraid. It still has my name, but is a bit of a shadow of what it was. I think the new owners concentrate more on cards than minis.

Anyway, if the wolves are to meet in North America, I would think it would have to be further north than NY. Somewhere in Canada?

Edit: Sorry for the off topic....

If it makes it any better, Wulfbane can bring his Lone Wolf to the meeting in Northern Canada. :P

@Mav_girl: The lessons have helped some. Not so much in how to sculpt, but how to cast off replicas and fix seams. I decided on the cape out of all my comic book influences (Batman, Spawn, etc) and just wanted to have a ridiculously long, bulky cloak all ripped into tatters to help embellish the feral nature. Oh, and don't expect it to be painted any time this week. =X Tons more tedious sculpting to do!

@Grimfoe: I agree it's a bit wolf priesty. I wanted to show him with skull totems more than runic or tail totems, b/c the bone aspect of the skulls just speaks bringer of death when combined with that pose (to me!). Even though the intent of this model has been as a tribute to Mav's Jormungndr, the cloak and skulls (and the chosen base model) had me thinking of possibly giving this guy a backstory of having aspirations of becoming a Wolf Priest and hasn't yet. I mean.. how are Wolf Priests chosen anyway? So that was my thought...

@Everyone: Thanks for all the comments and I'm glad you all enjoy it!

I've been thinking about it a lot, and you could probably keep the helmet as is without too much difficulty. It really depends on the paint job. If you stay away from the black armor and go grey with some tribal-like markings or something to pick him out from your regular troops, I don't think they'll be too much confusion.

I think we're over thinking it. Wolf priests have black armor with white helms. If you change one or both of those things, it will be fine.

The helm you have is great. I'd hate to see you swap it for something inferior. If you have something particularly cool, go for it.

Chaos Hounds with GS?

Combination of chaos hound and wolf rider wolf heads/tails ... + GS. It's based off of a rendition of DJ Batman and Franz's conversions, but I swear I'd seen a DJ Batman version more comparable to the ones I've done, I just can't seem to find it, unfortunately.

By all that is good and righteous, I may have to... ahem... "borrow" your model idea. Damn, man that looks awesome. I'm gonna keep an eagle eye on this thread.

Ha! Feel free! Not sure (by now) which model you're referring to, though. I will say, however, that I'm very pleased with how both the LW and the wolves are coming out. Especially the wolves. The old wolf rider models simply don't do Fenrisian wolves justice, so I hope these more dynamic models (chaos hounds) start a bigger trend. Unless, of course, GW get off their butts and sculpt something even better.

Brilliant work! I'm loving the Fenrisian wolves. Quite glad I haven't got round to converting the Chaos Warhounds I have already. Just need to get hold of some of the old Goblin Wolf heads now. I cast up some tails that I had lying around, but no luck finding a head yet.

Would you mind if I used your design for my own FW at all Wulfebane?

I'd planned to do the total head swap like the the linked article, but you're are much more fierce.
